No. This is not a joke. So please don't say this thread should be moved to the Jokes thread. White House is considering a Trump speech to the nation on race and unityAfter a weekend of massive peaceful protests around the country, White House officials are currently deliberating a plan for President Donald Trump to address the nation this week on issues related to race and national unity, as Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson hinted in an interview with CNN on Sunday and a senior administration official said was under serious consideration. Many allies of the President spent the last week distraught as they watched Trump fumble his response to the police killing of George Floyd, only to follow his perceived silence on the resulting racial tensions with a federal law enforcement crackdown on the protesters near his fortified doorstep. Aides and allies were not comforted by the backlash over his decision to have federal officers aggressively clear Lafayette Park in front of the White House to facilitate a widely-panned attempt at a photo-op in front of St. John's Church. And the rest of the week continued on a downward spiral, as protests across the country grew and Trump faced an onslaught of well-known conservatives, generals and former Trump administration officials who excoriated his response and called for new leadership come November. Carson suggested during an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" that the President this week would further address Floyd's killing and the tensions it exposed. "I believe you're going to be hearing from the President this week on this topic in some detail. And I would ask you maybe to reserve judgment until after that time," Carson said. Trump can't resist looking up and explaining what he just read in simple terms. He'll dig his hole deeper. Of course Carson is a useless, uninformed member of the wh so what does he know?

This is going to be good. Can’t wait for all his insights. I expect it to be a Churchillian level of elocution and rhetoric, leading to soaring approval ratings, and clearly the way for his re-election
Was that a good representation of what his followers will say. I now need a shower

Just what we need. A white rich male mansplaining to everyone what racism is.
Easy bet to take. .. will he go off script and start bragging about how great the UE rate is for black people and how Floyd is smiling down on him from heaven because of it? Plus he'll be sure to remind everyone w who the REAL victim is (him) of this vast government conspiracy to create racism where there is none? I mean we had a black president and Trump is the greatest since Abraham Lincoln what more do people want?

Poll problems of trump's own makings. CNN Poll: Trump losing ground to Biden amid chaotic weekCNN) As protesters gather daily near the White House and the coronavirus pandemic rages on, the American public is souring on President Donald Trump. A new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS finds Trump's approval rating down 7 points in the last month as the President falls further behind presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, whose support now stands at its highest level in CNN polling. The survey also finds a growing majority of Americans feel racism is a big problem in the country today and that the criminal justice system in America favors whites over blacks. More than 8 in 10 also say that the peaceful protests that have spread throughout the nation following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers are justified. Americans now consider race relations as important a campaign issue as the economy and health care, according to the survey. Overall 38% approve of the way Trump is handling the presidency, while 57% disapprove. That's his worst approval rating since January 2019, and roughly on par with approval ratings for Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush at this point in their reelection years. Both went on to lose the presidency after one term. The poll finds the public broadly disapproves of Trump's handling of race relations (63% disapprove), and 65% say the President's response to recent protests has been more harmful than helpful. A broad majority of Americans say the peaceful protests happening all across the country after police violence against African Americans are justified (84% say so), and roughly a quarter (27%) say violent protests in response to police harming or killing African Americans are justified. Both figures are higher than they were when similar protests rose in the fall of 2016. Then, 67% saw peaceful protests as justified while 14% felt violent protests were. There isn't much of a racial or partisan difference over whether peaceful protests are justified now, but the gaps are larger over violent protests. Among Democrats, 42% consider violent protests justified in response to police violence against African Americans, while just 9% of Republicans agree. Among blacks, 39% say violent protest is justified vs. 23% among whites. Two-thirds of Americans call racism a big problem in America today, up from 49% who said so in a 2015 CNN/Kaiser Family Foundation survey. The increase in this share has come most sharply among blacks (88% call it a big problem now vs. 66% in 2015), but there have been large increases among Latinos (from 64% to 79%) and whites (from 43% to 60%) as well. He will probably start riots and protests again after his eloquent rhetoric.
The best speech he could give is " I will not run for this office again".

He'll just stick to whatever lame script his aides give him in the same monotone he always uses when he reads somebody else's words off a teleprompter.
It would be good if he'd forget himself and blather on about his jobs and his economy and how he saved us all from CoVid and how there's no shortage of PPE for healthcare workers. And top it all off with a slam at Roger Goodell (he might even use the word "intimating" again because he knows all the best words).
There won't be any mention of his bunker and how he went there (accompanied by Melania and Barron) to inspect and to pray. Or of his disgusting performance at the church last week or his three-mile fence around the White House.

All he's going to do is make it worse. The best thing Trump could do for himself right now is to shut up and stop twittering. Unfortunately for him, he believes the worse things are the more aggressive he has to be. Someone might write a decent speech for him, but I wonder if he would be able to stick to it and not go off on a disastrous riff? Too risky, I think, but if trump gets it into his head he should do a thing, he’ll do it. I don’t usually watch him talk but I may watch this one just to see what his speech writers think Americans want to hear, and if trump can stick to the teleprompter.

Biden is having a hard time getting media attention right now, but that may not matter. If he sits in his basement and occasionally sends out presidential sounding videos he may win it, the way Trump is crashing and burning like the Hindenburg.

I watched that interrview and was struck how carefully Carson skirted any criticism of the Donald...even as strong questions about our current problems were thrown at him by the interviewer...If it wasn't so seriouse , the interview could even be thought of as a humorous exchange...

Just don't turn it into a drinking game you'll be dead from alcohol poisoning after the first five minutes. Depends on how you set up the game. Take a shot whenever Trump apologizes for anything, show genuine empathy or admits the photo op in front of the church was an unfortunate choice and you'll be stone sober at the end of the night. Take a shot when he self congratulates - you'll be shit faced.

Great. So we can just expect everything to get worse.
Asking a racist to unite the country over the issue of police brutality and systemic racism doesn't sound like a winning plan. Unless the goal is to make things worse.

His advisers were trying to persuade him back then. They gave up because of his complete disinterest in the subject.
