I would like to think that if troops come to the local big city that I will have the courage to be there also. Time will tell.
You?

And if you do find the courage to be there, what will you do? Honest question, no hidden agenda.

I hope as well. I worry about my kids, because they would insist on going as well. But they are adults now.

Stand and be seen. Tell tyranny to go fuck itself.

I would ask my fellow citizens who are in uniform to stand down, not blame them for being there . If necessary passively take my fair share of tear gas. Occupy a set of handcuffs. Take up space in a jail cell. Take a court's time to deal with me. The one that is tough to list is give my life doing the right thing. Maybe that. If it weren't for the wife, that one would be easier.

My kids are adults as well, and it would worry the shit out of me to know they were out protesting. Especially my son, who is hundreds of miles away from me, meaning I can’t get to him quickly if he needed me. I can’t express how worried I am about my son. I’d rather stand in their place and take my chances than for them to do it. As much as I worry, if my son told me that he is participating in peaceful protests, I’d have to respect it, because he is a man now. My daughter lives in the same area I do, and if she insisted on getting out there, I’d insist on going with her..... to be there to try to protect her if need be. Not that I would tell her that was my reason. I swear I’d rather die myself for taking a stand, than see either of my children harmed for the same or less. I never imagined that I would ever have to think about this kind of shit.

I'm gutless. And it is so f-in hot outside. And frankly, I find protests kinda boring. Standing around for hours on end.
But I am going to volunteer with the elections. I think there will be a shortage of poll workers this year, and I will take my chances with Covid to provide voting for as many as I can. It is the best I can do at this time.

The police and military might have a hard time raining tear gas, rubber bullets, and batons on people who could be their parents and grandparents. Maybe they would have second thoughts.

Your willingness to do what you describe in your first paragraph is more than many are willing to do, so thank you.

There are many roles to be played in trying to make the changes that need to happen. As I’ve said before, it’s not necessary imo for everyone that cares about this to be on the frontlines, the work that happens behind the scenes is important too.

I saw police officers knock down an old guy with a cane on video yesterday. That was a swat team...and immediately 2 others on the team ran to assist the old gentleman. Not all are bad but some will never change.

See my response to oped. I don’t think it matters anymore who you are, if you’re out protesting, or just out period, while others are protesting, you’re fair game. No respect. I’d prefer our seniors not put themselves in harms way either. I’d lose it and be howling at the moon if my Mom was peacefully protesting and she was harmed or even treated in a disrespectful manner. I was taught to respect my elders, but obviously not everyone was taught the same thing. So, no sir, I don’t want our seniors putting themselves in harms way, counting on the respect that some of us have been taught to give to our elders.

Your willingness to do what you describe in your first paragraph is more than many are willing to do, so thank you. The problem is that if one puts themselves in position to do the things in the first paragraph, there is no guarantee the second doesn't happen. I understand that. I hate it, but I understand that truth. I just want the killing to stop. I don’t want my sisters and brothers to continue to be killed because they have brown skin, and I don’t want my sisters and brothers of other races and ethnicities that are willing to stand with us, to lose their lives over this either. I’m all about peace, love and happiness, at least I try to be, as corny as it sounds, and I’m having trouble wrapping my mind around a lot of this. As peaceful as I try and would like to be, the old story about the 2 wolves living inside of a person is something I think about often. The wolf you feed is the one that thrives, right? I try so hard to only feed the peaceful wolf, but the other still lives inside of me. The other one is angry and vengeful, and keeps tabs of all the wrongs done to me and mine, on a personal level and in general. I don’t want to feed the other wolf and become an angry Black woman. At the same time, I’m a woman with the spirit of a warrior that loves hard, and even if I’m afraid, I’ll do and sacrifice whatever to protect those that I love. It’s personal for me.

I've seen a couple of photos of a row of white people linking arms standing between the cops and the rest of the protesters. Dunno if it stopped the tear gas, but it was a powerful photo.

I thought about that picture/scene after I made the post. I know Pink Cashmere mentioned that picture the other day. If it works for white women why not work for a couple rows if senior citizens. But I do understand the possible physical dangers to everyone involved and especially for senior citizens.

Remember the "Law and order" President whose attorney's say can't be charged with a crime.

I was in the streets before in the early 70’s. Regretted I didn’t go when the psychopaths voted to invade Iraq. I have no plans tomorrow and Wednesday.😡

trump doesn't care about seniors, he was ready to sacrifice us to the virus, still is. So we can stand in front and likely get knocked down and arrested to. A few broken bones, some heart attacks, not big deal to him.

Hitting the REI garage sale in the morning before the march really made the trip worthwhile.
