If you receive a debit card for unemployment even though you signed up during your initial claim for direct deposit, do you have to activate the card? DH signed up for unemployment on 4/20 and we've already submitted 6 weeks of claims, but no payment yet. I haven't been worried about it because it seems like everyone's checks are taking forever to start. We haven't activated that card since he had signed up for direct deposit and now I'm wondering if he was supposed to anyway?

My card had $9900 loaded on it.
I'd most definitely activate it, even if you just end up storing it in a drawer. It only takes a moment and that might have the "missing" deposits.

Activate it! My husband had to collet UE. He signed up for direct deposit, but he, and everyone else on his job, got the card. I think the direct deposit was used in 'normal' times. The card is a pain in the ass though. We don't have a BoA account, and most branches/ATMs around here are closed. We did find one about 6 miles away, but max withdrawal is $300.

You can transfer the money out of the BofA account into your regular bank account . That’s what I’ve been doing since most/all banks are closed around here .

I read the BoA card website, and didn't see this option. It’s on the website but not on the app . I did mine last year when I was on disability. No fee . Not sure where on website it is . Do know that they will also help you arrange it by calling in as well. My son downloaded the app first and then tried to do it on the website and it wouldn’t let him 🤷♀️

I read the BoA card website, and didn't see this option. So I logged into my BofA EDD and where it says home , my money , my settings . Click on my money and there should be a transfers option . I hope this helps . I hope they still offer this option .

crazycat Thank you, I will take a look! I'll report back later. It looks like he can! I guess we should do one time transfer, as oppose to recurring? There's maybe $3k on the card now, then weekly deposits. I assume recurring they want a set amount. So one time, transfer what's there, then just transfer once a week? Thanks so much again!

I get mine paid out every 2 weeks on Mondays , so I just go in and transfer out whatever is there at that time . Glad to help 😀

Just FYI - keep your debit card even after you go back to work , etc . I was told last year to keep it at least 3 years . Good thing I did , cuz I needed it again when Covid 19 hit . I was so glad I didn’t have to wait for a (new) card .

I activated it. It shows $0, so nothing has been sent yet. So 6 weeks since initial claim...

Mine is with US Bank (which I don't have an account with). I was on UI before the pandemic hit. It took a while for the extra $600 to hit (about a month because the repubs in my state held up sending it to the feds). It's very easy to transfer money to my regular bank accounts. I did it again this morning. I don't have an automatic transfer set up. I basically leave my state UI on my card to use for groceries, takeout, etc, and just transfer the fed portion to my primary checking for bills. Mine is called a reliacard. When I set it up I linked it to my email. So every time I use it I get an email with the transaction amount and the new balance. My 20 yr old daughter had it over the weekend, so I knew she spent $3.78 at the gas station, $33.49 at Target, etc. She got home and I grilled her on what she purchased
