Watching the class of 2020

on TV.  I have cried for my friends kids that were robbed on their SR year of HS and College.  I'm glad they are broadcasting this!  Of course the dumb ass in chief would never do this.

My son was a senior this year. As of now, they're planning to try and have the ceremony on Aug. 7, which is also his 18th birthday.

    Of course our current POTUS wouldn't.  He only cares about money.  I've never seen him show any compassion for another human being, besides himself.

    We watched the program at our house, too.  I think it was nicely done.  And, relevant to the Class of 2020.

I DVR'd it in case I can convince my senior to watch it later, but I'm not real hopeful.  He's not much for TV at all and he kind of groaned when I mentioned it.

They get to walk for their ceremony on Friday.  It's outside though, so I sure hope it doesn't rain and get cancelled!  That would be just their luck.

For some reason as I was watching it, it hit me, that these are the kids born in the shadow of 9/11.  A whole life at war, the great recession, school shootings, and then have your senior year ruined by a pandemic.  Just a weird coincidence.

I was questioned on why I thought the don wasn't doing this.  Them stating he really was.  My response was show empathy and compassion and put out a 1 min video to congratulate these kids.

Oh boy, didn't realize my other friends would shoot back as fiercly as they did to call out the prez. It was entertaining.

There were 2 1 hr specials on national TV filled with stars and formers Prez Clinton and Obama.  They each gave a sound bite of encouragement to the class of 2020. 

Well he can't do the job he is supposed to be doing. He could have provided a 1 min clip instead of having diarrhea of the mouth when he speaks at the WH.

They are here too.  My daughter saw a video that our local KK had a line a mile long.  It was backing up a major, 6 lane street

I love the idea, but there is only 1 in our major metro area (actually one 1 in our state).  I have gone there to pick up donuts on a week day to take to work and have had to wait 20 minutes as they were out of donuts, and there where only 4 cars in the drive through.  I can't imagine how overwhelmed they are unless they cooked all night to stock ahead then cooked all day.

I think they should have staggered it out for the whole week and maybe said if you school begins A-E, Monday, F-J Tuesday, etc.  But people wouldn't have listened and still clogged the lines

New Hampshire high school seniors to ride ski resort chairlift to top of mountain to receive their diplomas. 

Really cool news out of New Hampshire where a high school has come up with a creative solution for their commencement ceremony with the help of a local ski resort. Kennett High School in North Conway, NH has planned a ski lift graduation for the class of 2020 on the top of Cranmore Mountain.

“People will ride it up, get their diploma, get a picture of them on the top of a mountain, they’ll go to a different place with a second photographer, and get a pretty amazing backdrop.” Kennett High School Principal Kevin Carpenter

I saw our news tonight and some kids had driven from an hour away, waited in line for 2 hrs, then were turned away as they sold out.  Poorly handled by Krispy Kreme.  These kids have been so disappointed this year!!  They should have just sent out coupons to all schools for their Srs to use for a month.  Could be emailed coupons!

Right! My son did get his, after over an hour wait - but all they had left was glazed. So, he didn't even get what was offered. Still, it was free, and better than nothing.

I'm gonna disagree pretty seriously.  He seems to care a LOT about fame.  I'm guessing he would have done this had he been asked (I'm guessing he wasn't asked but I don't know).  This actually seems like something that would be right up his alley...attention on him, opportunity to hold himself out as someone very important, etc.

My guess is trump was asked. But seeing former president Obama was already asked and involved in the show trump wanted no part in it.

I strongly disagree.  Why would he need to be asked?  If he had any common sense he could have used this as an opportunity to gain new voters and gotten ahead of this with his own commercial.  It was advertised for a week.  Instead he is focused on Obamagate, taking hydroxychloroquine, closing down testing for CV19, only 90,000 people have died so he has done a great job. He doesn't care about other people!!

As I stated, he could have made commercials congratulating the class of 2020 that ran the whole week to tell the class of 2020 his great ideas to help them achieve their dreams, the economy was good to rebound, things would be better than ever, etc. He likes the limelight when it's at his big rallies and people are cheering for him.  If he had been on that special he probably would have used it as a rally cry for him, and not to acknowledge those students graduating.  He's just a dumb @ss

I'm going to split the baby here.

He hasn't made a single speech where he expresses sorrow about the people who have died.

He hasn't made a single speech that bolstered the mood of the nation.

His speeches do not offer hope, or a light at the end of the tunnel or encouragement.

He could have made a speech addressing youth in general, or people graduating from high school or college at any point, and it would be have been broadcast.

But, it wouldn't have been randomly included in that particular television show unless he pre-recorded it and reached out to that group and the speech was good.

He is certainly a failure at strengthening the fabric of our nation at this moment. Even when he tries to offer good news, it invites his supports to protest angrily, and spreads fear and controversy across the population. The messaging during this time is difficult, but a president should be preaching sadness, hope, ingenuity, tolerance, bravery and calmness. He hasn't done even one of those.

He could have...but paying for a commercial is not the same as going on a tv show for free publicity.

I totally agree he would have used it as a rallying cry for him...that's why I disagree when people say he wouldn't have gone on and done it.  Of course he would have.  He wouldn't have been good at it...but you can't convince me someone said "Hey President Trump, we've got a national television show where you can rattle on for 5 minutes to the class of 2020...you wanna be on tv?" and he said "No thanks, the limelight isn't really my thing".

All that said...I'm not sure it's a bad thing he didn't go on the show.  It's not something important, it's a television show created as a ratings grab (with understanding all tv shows are ratings grabs).

All that said...I'm not sure it's a bad thing he didn't go on the show.  It's not something important, it's a television show created as a ratings grab (with understanding all tv shows are ratings grabs).  

His speeches get broadcast for free pretty much whenever he wants. They will cancel and delay network programming to carry a speech of his if it is planned. He didn't need to pay. He just needed to say "I would like to address the nation" and he would have his face on tv. He is missing a golden opportunity to make himself look like a caring decent leader. But he can't even fake that. He was able to read the state of the union without Trumping it up. Why can't he read a speech that says "I'm heartbroken about the deaths we have had. I feel for those graduating and facing this world. But I am confident that we are a strong nation who will emerge with some scars, but fordge on to continue to keep america great." See, I even got his slogan in there for him.
