Started the morning with the news that the VP in my department was let go which I knew was going to be bad for me. Then I got the call that my last day will be tomorrow. I started an unemployment application, but couldn't move it forward because of my last day worked being tomorrow. I'll try again after midnight tonight. I have folks in my network trying to help me find work, but recruiters are saying what I already know - there isn't anyone hiring.
I called my auto loan and they say I can get a 90 day deferral of payments, but interest will accrue. I didn't ask for that yet though. This month's payment and next won't be an issue. But not knowing when the economy will improve I am going to have to plan for bare bones spending so I'll have to think that over this weekend.
I noticed a tiny hole in my night guard so I may call the dentist to see if I can get a new one before the end of the month when my dental insurance ends. Because I will surely continue grinding my teeth.
I've never lost a job before so this is quite upsetting to me. I feel like I have to take Cobra in case I get sick and end up in the hospital, but it is going to be so expensive.
And I got letter from the county today saying my property tax is going up 200 dollars.

I'm so very sorry. I can understand why you are so upset. If you don't mind me asking, what type of work do you do?

OUCH! I'm in the same boat as you. If you need any help or support navigating this, just post it. I'll keep an eye out on your thread. My industry is decimated too. What industry are you in?

I'm so sorry to hear this Bobo. I've followed you over the years.
I hope that your request for UE is granted quickly, and that you fall on your feet soon my friend.
ETA: I talked to my best friend tonight, a doc working in the front lines. She was very sad for my DS1 and DS3 who are graduating this year and can't find jobs. She said, so many people do stupid things, financially. But what's different this time is that so many people who have done everything "right" are still screwed. Bobo I hope that you take my comment in the spirit in which it was meant. I'm NOT suggesting you did ANYTHING wrong. That's my point ... this board is all about financial prudence, living below your means, saving for retirement, etc. And I know very well that you (and others) DID all that!
It truly has become a new world, in just a few short months.
We are rooting for you.

I'm so very sorry. I can understand why you are so upset. If you don't mind me asking, what type of work do you do? I work in tech. My projects the last year have been related to healthcare, but I have some experience with big banks too. Risk management type of work, but for hospitals I was focused on recovering lost revenue from insurance audits. In a real pinch I might be able to get an administrative job at a hospital helping them fight the insurance auditors. I have the technical ability to do what the expensive software does for them.

Will you be getting any severance? I know it's probably the LAST thing you feel like doing right now, but please try to negotiate for severance and healthcare.

I'm sorry! Cobra really sucks but always sort of has us by the dangling bits. Lots of taxing jurisdictions are getting pushback on increased assessments and rates while everyone is getting gut-punched-maybe your area is fighting this too? Hugs and hopes for the best.

Really sorry to hear this. I don't think most people's jobs are safe right now which really sucks. I would think mine would be making medical devices, but even we're struggling due to supplier issues and I'm starting to worry about Q2 layoffs.

Very sorry to hear this, but I agree that everyone should be concerned in the coming months. It will take a long time to rebound from this. Unemployment will pay the extra $600 for awhile.

So sorry about your job loss. These times are so difficult. I'm pretty sure you can get cobra retroactively for at least a month. Maybe more, I don't remember the specifics.

Sending best wishes for the days ahead. It's so hard to "rest in the waiting" right now when monthly obligations loom large.

Bobosensei I am so very sorry. I wish I had some words that would offer comfort. I’m seeing friends dealing with the same issue and it just breaks my heart. I want, so badly, to make it OK and I can’t.
You are not alone (and I know that doesn’t help)

I'm really sorry. I've been through it, but not during a pandemic. I'll be rooting for you. People do get jobs during all sorts of emergencies and catastrophes. I'll be hoping for you that you'll be one of them.

I'm so sorry! Losing your job sucks during the best of times, and this is definitely not the best of times. I hope you are able to find a job quickly!
