Our governor actually said today that as the infection and hospitalization rates are increasing, she is looking at closing some industries again.
I am shocked she said that in a public setting.
I am more shocked that she was wearing a mask as was everyone else in the room.

Well, our county announced today that we'd be wearing masks indoors if you are 5 and older...or maybe it's older than 5.

My governor is threatening to shut things down again. I think the Republicans will start a war over that. They already think that they don't have to listen to her. I'm just hoping we can get through the summer before shutting down again. I'll do what I have to with the kids' school in the fall. It may not be fun, but it won't be regardless.

On my phone so i can't link to the article...google camp kanakuk in Missouri. Outbreak up to 82 kids from multiple states. Camp is more togetherness than school but it seems like foreboding news to me.

Governor said she would start with bars and even though young people don't seem to get as sick, they are spreading it to parents and grandparents.

Texas GOP will hold their state convention in person in Houston. Governor condemns local officials for not doing their jobs. We are officially screwed.

Boise, ID mandated mask wearing as of July 4th. Most stores now have signs, that say masks are mandatory and people are following so far. The city by city of it isn't great, but I don't leave Boise. Go Mayor!

The concern is it's similar to school and also that they then get the caregivers and their relatives sick.

Go Mayor! I was born and lived my youth in Boise. Our smugly superior attitude was always, "There is Boise and then there is ... Idaho."

So far my area is going ok. I don’t go to stores often but I can’t remember seeing anyone without a mask on. Our issue is the bars. The young kids and drunk adults are not paying attention to social distancing or wearing masks in the bars. There are rumors that the bars will but shit down soon. But our cases are still low so I don’t know

School district said today they will resume in person, 5 days a week. Pretty limited info but kids won't congregate outside of their class. Masks required when closer than 6 feet, which I would interpret like @ azucena district. They said 74% of people wanted school in person and only 11% wanted an at home option. Hybrid models are developed but won't be offered, just as back up if requirements change.
We're keeping our kids home which is scary in some ways but it just is what what it is.

Connecticut had plans to go to Opening Phase 3 on July 20, which included opening bars. Now the governor has put that plan on hold indefinitely. Although things are pretty good here, he pointed to what's happening elsewhere and not wanting a repeat here.
I'm not sure what's going to happen with schools, universities and daycare come in August. UConn announced only a percentage of students will be allowed to live on campus, and many classes will be offered online.

My office decided to hold the monthly meeting in person very last minute. I have a 90 minute 1 way commute on a good day so I didn't go, but saw everyone there on zoom. All sitting together without masks. It's enough to make me feel like I've lost my mind.

A cousin posted, on Facebook, a pic of a group playing live music in a bar. In Harris County, Texas. One of the biggest hot spots in the country. Where the ICUs are full.
I was so appalled I snoozed her for a month

My area had its 3rd confirmed case today.
There was a large gathering here for the 4th of July. It was outdoors but I didn't see a single mask during the portion of the event I attended.
Public health mentioned today in their FB message that we will see how things are here in 2 weeks and if people gathering and partying on the holiday leads to more cases.
I'm still feeling like I can't breathe. I assume it's the cottonwood trees that are sending their snow through the air. Just in case, I'm staying home and away from other people.

DH started summer school teaching Monday. He goes into the agency M/W to broadcast a zoom (or whatever platform) meeting "class" to students. Some snafus getting all students linked in, etc. He's going into work for faster internet speed, our rural isn't enough.
Found out a staff member has tested positive, but no names given (privacy, I get it, but the lack of info is not helpful). Likely a cottage staff, not school staff. So residential students were currently NOT in school, as they'd planned.
The governor is still not committing for school this fall, either in or out.

Both my kids' schools said they would offer a 100% at home option. There is also talk about full time at school as an option, too. I like the idea of the school being flexible to accommodate both people who have health concerns, and people who don't have proper resources to learn at home. Granted - this is high school, so the issues are less complex than elementary school.

My county, Shelby county, has reversed course and stand alone bars and nightclubs are closed again due to increasing cases of the virus.
Restaurants and restaurants with bars within them must now close at 10 p.m..

Well, in today's news Trump disagrees with the guidelines of the CDC to open schools and insists they just need to open without all those pesky expensive guidelines. He's also threatening to remove all funding to all schools who don't open.
Apparently his narcissism makes him not care about killing off adults or children.
BTW, TX announced this morning on CNN that they are now letting older people go home to die because they don't have enough ICU beds.
Trump's Twitter this morning:
"I disagree with @cdcgov on their very tough & expensive guidelines for opening schools. While they want them open, they are asking schools to do very impractical things. I will be meeting with them!!!"

Also, sending people home to die - does that pretty much guarantee that each of them will infect at least 1 other person, as the average Joe doesn't know how to really avoid contamination, nor do they have appropriate PPE? As is, trained healthcare workers have contracted the disease - not sure I, who apparently loves touching my own face more than I love my own children, would make mistakes while caring for an infected person. If someone dies with Covid, does their body still exude contractable viruses?

The efficiency of spread quickly diminishes with cessation of breathing. Have seen no data to suggest it is spread by blood. So being exposed to a dead body should no be very risky if you avoid saliva/respiratory secretions. Efficiency of fecal spread is unclear, but would avoid that as well.

What does it look like here? Like the shit show that it was before Kemp shut us down, while Kemp kindly let us stay shut down, and since Kemp has opened up and declined to shut us down again.
3406 new cases yesterday; 3420 new cases today. Heck, let's all go to a concert. Or a bar. Or a movie.

NJ governor just announced masks required even outdoors if can’t socially distance. He also announced plans for schools opening, rather generic, masks distancing. Then he said each community needed to make individual criteria.

As you already know, I live in Houston. Reopening sucks for us. Others will dispute that for many reasons and that's their right. As a civic leader, I sat in a meeting today largely devoted to reaching thousands of non-English speakers with education on Covid-19, and a desperate hope that we could actually have a testing site in the most heavily impacted zip code in Houston.
