Once we are fully open in leisure/travel/vacation? Or do you think people will be a bit “shy” at first?
2 weddings we were invited to (July/August) were postponed, both would have required travel, and another even (first communion) postponed that was scheduled for this month.
A lot of my friends or people my age and younger (25-35) are just itching to get out, do something, anything. the Haitian community have had every weekend what we call “virtual balls” where a well known group basically put on a show via Instagram/Facebook and Twitter live. You log in, people donate and have a good time from your couch ... or home but different from going to a club. But funny thing those group have raised more money or made money this way (literally no overhead) vs when they actually play at a venue.
The events listed (wedding and first communion) are postponed vs canceled because the venues/caterers/DJ’s etc would not refund the money (deposit) but instead allow them to reschedule the even once we are back to normal. So while my little cousin is still getting her first communion this month, the big bash is to be later.
In my Area we are slowly getting busier, more people willing to go pick up/ order from restaurants (getting tired of cooking maybe?) . My job has extended Till when we can use our vacations because they know no one is trying to go on vacation right now (our vacations are use it or lose it) and I am assuming they don’t want everyone wanting to go on vacation during the Holidays before they lose their vacation.

I'm not a good example. I'm an introvert and so far my life hasn't changed too much (other than the working from home) the things I use to do with other people I still do (I have internet friends, friends I talk to on the phone, and the nature of the "games" I use to play by getting together with other people translated really well to use zoom or hangouts or a webex... So, I'm still pretty much doing all the things I did BEFORE the pandemic (just doing it from home). I hate shopping - so I don't do it for entertainment - so I don't really "miss" going to the stores... I still grocery shop once a week (or every 10 - 12 days) I don't bargain hunt quite as much in order to be able to shop at just ONE store. On the "vacation days" my employer just came out and said use your vacation days now even if you are staying at home (the jist being if working from home is stressful -because of kids/spouses - use time off to help with it (some of my coworkers have set up parts of the weekdays as "out of office" because of their kids school schedule) Also, my employer has canceled the yearly cash out of up to 5 day. And if your PTO bank hits the maximum -you stop accruing time off (so you lose it). I'm having trouble (being motivated to do work) working from home (with the being home and separating work from home life) so I queued up a bunch of 4 and 3 day work weeks thru the beginning of July. I did that BEFORE we were told to "use your vacation!" That said. I'm not really sure if people I know will suddenly go on "destination vacations" as soon as they can travel. I DO expect people to start eating out more and browsing at stores again and going to get togethers with other people (at home or out somewhere). I would like to be in the same room (and share homemade food) with the people I play games with again.

Consumption of stuff that will go up once people go back to work can go visiting/out to stores and restaurants and entertainment: Gas for their cars. (I kinda wish this wasn't gonna happen. The haze is pretty much gone... I've been solar cooking with crystal clear skies nearly every day (it's not overcast and rainy). This spring reminds me of my childhood - the sky is so blue and the sunlight so clear. It's almost fake. ) Restaurant food. Sports TV if sports starts again.

I'm guessing the younger generation that feels "invincible", and doesn't know of anyone who is sick, will head on out.
With a few exceptions, my generation will probably hang back for awhile, and see how many new cases of the virus happen when things open up. DH & I have already agreed that, other than visiting his parents, we're not going anywhere this year.

Demand for in-home stuff is up right now. I guess there will be a rebound for out of the home services, but there will be more DIY done as people have learned how to be more self-sufficient. We have a lot of pent up desire to go on vacation now, but that's gonna wait until it's actually safe to do so. Not any maybe, probably, we're younger and fairly healthy so we'll probably be fine. I don't want to spend $1000's with a side of covid19, TYVM. YMMV

I plan to use my 5 floating holidays soon because if you leave or get laid off they aren't paid out. I'll probably use a few sick days too in the next few months. I may go ahead and schedule the time off so my calendar is blocked, and I can start working ahead on my projects to make sure I'm caught up. But I expect I'll just be at home doing something around the house.
I don't see myself traveling for a while, at least not flying. I'd like to go to the mountains or beach, but my travel companion wants to go to Miami. I just can't see myself doing that any time soon.

I am REALLY wanting to plan something for 2021. I need something to look forward to. The only thing getting me through this is the fact that I am still making good money and able to save for future travel.
This whole situation is really making me crave new experiences. In the past, I have never really traveled alone but I think that will be changing. If I want to go somewhere, I'm just going to go (even if I go alone). Life is just too short...

I don't see spending in some categories ramping up very quickly- travel is going to take a LONG time to recover. Right now I have only one trip booked that will involve airfare- for October, 2021. I'm pretty wary about booking anything major before that. I think it's also going to take me a long time to venture back into restaurants and movie theaters. Never did go to concerts or pro sports events. All of these could end up being more expensive and less convenient due to social distancing, increased sanitizing and decreased capacity.
And then there will be some people who come out of this with no job and/or greatly reduced savings. I think we'll recover, but it will be 2021 at the earliest.

A lot is also going to depend on if they find some sort of viable treatment in a few months. That could change everything.

With this new normal coming the 2 things I will miss most are Thrift Stores and meal buffets. The buffets are gone, and the thrift stores will either be gone ..... or changed drastically.
Gonna be interesting.

I expect to see trends in home offices - new home builders will upscale offer offices - lighting, outside access, dorm friges, built-in electronics, etc. And we will retain some of the new-found conveniences - such as driving up to a Best Buy and having a person run out and load your purchase into your car.

It depends. I expect folks will be laid off for quite some time. In my own workplace, there are band-aid approaches now through this fall. I think the real, massive layoffs will come in the new year, 2021.
My state's unemployment fund is tapped out come October. These two things combined are having me rethinking vacation in the near term. We have school aged kids, and they are not good ages to pull out of school.
So, the next time we can start thinking about vacation after this summer is late October...at the start of the flu season. That could be a big no-thank you.
My vacation days got extended, too. But we'll need to save them for the next time the schools are shut down. My workplace gave us PTO for this first time. I suspect that will be the last time we enjoy PTO for SIP orders.

Best Buy and some stores were already doing this before the big virus - I just pull the little ole senior citizen card. The "I'm not sure I can get this out of the cart and into my car" using my most pitiful voice. Such nice clerks

We have trips for 2021 already planned, so it's going to be interesting to see what's going to happen. One trip that we should be on now was pushed out to June 2021. The rest were planned at the end of 2019. We fully plan on jumping in with both feet. However, we have likely lost a few nights hotel that I had reserved (and paid for) for a niece's wedding on June 6. Wedding (in Canada) was canceled and I tried to get back our non-refundable room costs but to no avail. If the border is still closed as of June 1, I will try again. We figured that even if we were not going to a wedding, we could take the time to go on a small road trip and use the hotel, the border being shut down would squash that idea too. We also have hotel reservations in Aug for TD's family reunion. This too is in a resort town where it was necessary to get reservations early before it was fully booked in high season. That is a big at this point.

I keep asking TD what he wants for dinner because I AM OUT OF IDEAS! It is absolutely useless when I hear 'whatever you want to cook is good' in response.

I would like to go somewhere next spring, but its not just dependent upon the virus but my being able to get around. I'm aging so not sure what will happen but I would like to go. I'm so tired of staying home. We have already lost our department stores here and the mall is a shell of its former self that I don't see much improving here.
Florida for a couple months in the spring is my goal, not real hopeful though.

The people there are doing a lousy job of social distancing, and the current governor is in Trump's pocket. Need I say more?

Wanting to go and doing it are to different things, I agree.
I think son is even unsure on them moving as they planned, he said they are going nowhere in May, we were supposed to keep grandson and them visit and house hunt in Washington. This has upended everything for him. Not sure what will happen now

I would get in a car and drive somewhere- like Yosemite or the beach or some other outdoor thing. I would stay in an expensive hotel. I would hang out by the pool, go hiking, etc. They are finding warm outdoor venues, with space for distance are pretty low risk.
I probably won't be in line the day Disneyland re-opens. Way too much togetherness and common surfaces there.
The real question is if I would get on a plane.

Are there any of those islands where you can be dropped off, and picked up a week later? The quiet would appeal to me, and no worries about the crowds.

I'm about ready to spend whatever it takes to go somewhere that isn't my house or one of my two jobs. But we are continuing to not go anywhere because Iowa continues to increase and so does Omaha. The earliest I'd feel comfortable going out is in June and that's only if our numbers aren't continuing to sky rocket.
I took a leap of faith and booked a hotel for August out in Estes Park. I am fine with not wandering downtown all day, I can hit the shops I want and get take out from our favorite places to eat at the cabin. That's if they are allowed to open there by then. I think by August I will feel safe enough to go places besides work, home and the grocery store once a month.
But who knows. For now it is enough to keep me going I will deal with it when the time comes if we end up having to cancel.
I do plan on going to the orthodontist whenever they have an opening to get that process started so I'll be dropping $2500 on that up front.

I was in the Minneapolis/St. Paul suburbs yesterday and I fail to see how there isn't plenty of spending going on right now. There was lots of traffic and the parking lots everywhere were packed. There is no way I would have suspected anything was amiss if I was just dropped there from another time not knowing there was a lockdown. I think we've hit the point where most people regardless of political affiliation are sick of it.
If my son's scout trip in July gets cancelled and they open the National Parks. I'm taking the boys on a road trip again. Carrot asked yesterday to go to the Grand Canyon and I was like, "yeah...that sounds like a plan".
Other than that, my spending won't change (outside of hair cuts for the kids).

In the next 3-6 weeks there will be massive outbreaks.
I assume there will be some shopping right now because people seem to have forgotten there's a pandemic or have drunk the Koolaid everything is now magically fine.
I happen to think a month or two from now they are going to be asking everyone to shelter again to give the healthcare system some stability and the public will revolt against it.
I, personally, believe we have gone for the "herd immunity" option without bothering to explain to the public how many deaths that means we will see.
Nothing has changed. Stop social distancing and have everything open means outbreaks. And, there's no testing/tracing programs to even attempt to control it.

We are supposed to go to OH in August for DH’s sister’s 33rd anniversary vow renewal. I have not told DH yet that I don’t want to go. We already have a place booked for the week. I’ll see how this plays out. As it is I am anxious about going to Atlanta at the end of this month to bring DD1 here. Her lease is up at the end of May, and her new job doesn’t start in Jacksonville til Aug 1. She already lined up an apartment for July 1, so she will be with us for a month. I just have anxiety about going there to help get her things here.

Not to worry, Cheesy FL-Vol. As long as you don't breathe while you're here, you'll be fine. The governor gets on TV every day and says the numbers are going down. He has a doctorate from the Trump School of Ethics, Honesty & Personal Integrity. GA Dept of Public Health updates the numbers twice a day, and they go up. Twice a day. Expect a boom in spending? By mid to late summer, my guess is that many people won't have enough money to spend on anything except necessities. Those who do have money will be reluctant to spend it.

In many small ways, our "boom" is happening now because we definitely see Wave #2 and Wave #3 happening this summer, fall and winter. I am not a hoarder per se, but I would be seriously lacking in brain cells not to see the weak links in our supply chain. So, yes, the months ahead will see a bit of a "boom" as I stockpile essentials to the extent my small house can accommodate. And we are expected to see an exceptionally active hurricane season due to extraordinary high temps in the Atlantic and Gulf.

I've spent my excess money when buying my new sewing machine and some needed equipment. I need some more fabric, but at $4/yd that's not a big deal. I had already canceled my trip to New England this fall and received my refund.
As my late Mother used to say, from now on I plan on "bubbling along". Don't need clothes, only necessity is food every few weeks, RXs are paid for by the VA and don't have Dr. visits until July, and Medicare covers that. I simply plan on living my life as is and worry about the other things only if they become important.
