Why must you enable me? I need another cookbook like I need a hole in the head. I'd also recommend Thug Kitchen for anyone looking to start eating less meat. Opened up a whole new world for me and blew my assumptions that a meatless diet meant endless carbs and soy. I'll need to check that out! I want to eat less meat as well but I'm not a huge fan of pasta and my favourite way to eat tofu is fried... so that's not exactly healthy! Fair warning, Thug Kitchen swears in their cookbooks A LOT. I don't mind it and actually find it funny but based on the reviews of both cookbooks I own there are quite a few people offended by it. Visit the Thug Kitchen blog first before you decide.

I wonder which will get stocked first. Boo! I am both proud and ashamed of that one. So conflicted.

If you want to dabble in vegetarian meals - I'd recommend Nava Atlas 5-ingredient or vegetarian Express cook books. The recipes are built around "menu plans" so there's suggestions for additional things to serve with each recipe. The recipes use common ingredients and often pre-packaged things (like say pre packaged brocolli slaw or shredded cabbage) or suggest cooking potatoes in the microwave (the horror!!) if you don't want to do the work yourself or spend hours in the kitchen. I think Curry Powder might be the most "uncommon" spice you would need to purchase. It's not "gourmet" high end eating - it's every day meals with stuff you probably already have at home or purchased to go with some meat meal. Atlas's 2 cookbooks and a Student's Vegetarian cookbook are my daily go to recipes/meals. I use the Veganomicon cookbook for fancy stuff.

The Giant we go to has been relatively fine. No issue getting milk and eggs, or hubs' weekly piece of meat. They did have some Charmin (yay!) when I went on Monday, but it an 18-pack and that's just ridiculous for a house of two people so I didn't buy it. We have five rolls of Angel Soft left at home, so we're fine, but I also fucking hate this TP so I hope to find a reasonable pack of something else soon. We have four rolls of Viva paper towels at home, but I've been using way less since I started using Swedish dish cloths. Love them!

There are times when I want to blame you guys for turning me into a hoarder! I took inventory: I have some leftover Charmin toilet paper from when before this started, a huge package of Costco's version, a large package of Northern, and another large package of Charmin that I just bought. It is nestled in the closet right next to 3 12-packs and 1 24-pack of diet coke and across from 7 packages of Abby's dog treats. And Cookies Galore thought an 18 pack was ridiculous for a household of two people?

Bunch of enablers you guys is. I decided to go looking at the cookbook Honey mentioned which lead me to Dmaris Phillip's vegetarian cookbook that I've wanted for awhile and it's only $15 on Amazon. That lead me down the wormhole and I found Justin Warner's cookbook ALSO for only $15. I am going to need a new bookshelf just to devote to my cookbook collection! Yes yes I need these. Books have been my universe since I was old enough to remember.. .cookbook hoarding is just an extension of that.

When I moved into my condo 16 years ago it had a bar to the kitchen. Weeeelll, since before I moved in I had a handyman build me bookshelves under there. 7 of the 9 shelves are completely filled with cookbooks, the other two have a few totsckes in addition to cookbooks. Not too many though as I really need the book space. If and when the apocalypse arrives I will have recipes to cook just about anything

TP has been plentiful for the last few weeks along with all the other paper goods and Dawn dish soap. Chicken and eggs are still the ones that aren't in stock much at the grocery stores, people are still panic buying those as fast as they arrive. I saw ground beef at the grocery store but not some of the other cuts. I suspect there will be meat but not as many choices as people are used to expecting. Pork is spotty but it was that way before all this. Tons of turkey so I guess just like certain brands of TP and canned vegetables and flavors of soup not being cleaned out there is apparently a line that even in an apocalypse people will not cross. I use a local butcher. They own the farm and do their own processing. They'll probably do fine the issue for me is they were packed and too small to observe six feet distance. I am cool with being meatless should I run out before the panic buying stops. I'm fine with ground turkey instead of beef I kind of hope that line is one that they continue not to cross. I'm going to buy pork for the first time in a while when I go to the store next week. I like it, I just usually stick to fish and birds. I have meat and won't die without it, but I'd rather have it. Plus I have a feeling I'll end up supplying the girls if they need it.

The beloved friend who delivered my gallon jug of hand sanitizer also dropped off a 2010 autographed Alton Brown cookbook that her son was getting rid of. Since I swore off cookbooks a couple of years back, I'm in Heaven.

I just got the call today that my two pigs are ready to pick up (ordered them from a farmer 3 weeks ago when i saw how this meat thing was going) 6 guys in the house, 4 of them in their 20's. I figure about a pig a month. Bottomless pits I tell you. The meat from the two hogs were delivered last night. I swear, I was like a kid in a candy store. lol

My Dmaris Phillips cookbook arrived.
I don't get where people say she uses weird inaccessible ingredients. Compared to some vegan/vegetarian cookbooks hers is pretty straightforward.
The one thing I'd have to hunt for is TVP if I desired and I can probably find that at the natural/herbal store I go to.
And there is always the internet.

I have been placing grocery orders every 2 weeks and so far all of the meat I have ordered has been fulfilled. I actually have a good bit now, because I was over ordering in case they were out of some stuff.

Only allowed to order 2 of chicken... overall (like 1 whole bird + 1 pack of breasts) and neither came last week. Not sure about the picture in the store as I don't go in. Luckily there are lots of other options here in the country.

I bought one of each, we are good.

I actually had trouble this past week bc my hoarding caught up with me and we had too much meat to eat! Not terrible, just required a little extra planning. The only thing I’ve had prolonged trouble finding is ground sirloin, bc DH is picky and doesn’t want the 80/20 or 93/7. Still have 4lbs or so in the freezer, not too worried.

We purchased 1/2 pig and 1/4 cow last year. Our freezer stock was getting low enough for DH to say Sunday it's time to restock. Last night was the first time buying beef and pork since the what I call C-word hit the States. The "regular" ground beef section was completely empty, and the other beef cuts and pork sections were sparse. There's also a limit on what customers can buy: 2 each pork and beef products, if I remember correctly. Laura's lean beef was on sale @6.99/lb, so I bought a pound. I also bought two different packages of pork cuts. There is no limit on fish, so I bought a few selections along with a pound of ground turkey.
Very disconcerting to say the least. Luckily, I enjoy cooking. I told DH it will be time for ground turkey tacos soon. He wasn't impressed, LOL.

Publix's chicken section was full... but only with tenderloins. I'm making chicken parmesan tonight with chicken fingers

I have plenty of meat and at least 120 rolls of TP, there is more, not sure how many and a case of toweling paper plus boxes of Kleenex, we are fixed.
I started packaging out meat in smaller quantities. For example 2 pork grillers, tenderized pork chops with no bone. Then hubs gets 1 and DD and I share one. We still get meat but less and its fried in avocado oil, so no cholesterol. So our meat is really going a long way and this way we can still eat it but in greatly reduced amounts.

The people I buy my side of beef from every year just called to see if we were getting one (butchering in September). They have so many new wanna-be customers, they wanted a count of their old customers' orders before they allowed anyone else in line. Dang!

For the record, we are buying a small whole beef. These are strictly grass fed and we like the tiny cuts from the smaller animal. We can always sell off a portion to neighbors if we don't need the whole one. I set the money aside in cash to pay for it. The old guys only takes cash. They are a strange delight 🤣

We may have to pull hamburger and sausage from the menu. It's getting too expensive and hard to get. It'll even out eventually just like toilet paper did but in the short term it's going to hurt.
We raised prices by $0.25 to $0.75 per pizza to cover the increase. I had two people bitch last night. Umm. .. are you not aware of what is going on in the world right now? It's not just our food that is going up in cost right now. If you don't want to order that is fine but we have a right to make sure our prices reflect the cost of overhead.
We're also running specials to try to get people to try other pizzas. For some reason there is ample pepperoni and Canadian bacon available. So we're running specials on those, cheese and vegeterian pizzas.

I'm not seeing a shortage of meat. I can get whatever I want. I suspect there are still limits, but I do just in time inventory, so I haven't tried to stock up.
