Someone shared this of people on the beaches, among other photos. I think that beaches are good to open up. We need the next wave to get started sometime and what better group to ride it. There is almost zero exposure to anyone who doesn't volunteer to be exposed. Beaches aren't like restaurants and theaters which would force low paid workers to be exposed. That's a way to look at it. Though most predictions I've seen has Florida's peak still yet to come so it's not the best time since the first wave isn't on the way down here.

1,000+ dumb ass fuckers stood shoulder to shoulder today in protest of the lock down. One lady had a sign that said she wanted to go to her church. Bitch if you believe the only time you can pray or be around God is in a church, you are not a Christian. You want our state to open up? DON'T PULL STUPID SHIT LIKE THIS!!! Protests are not going to cure this disease. Lock them all up for 14 days together!!! NO Drs. I saw a protestor somewhere holding a sign my body my choice to work. Ironically they won't get they're making a my body my choice arguement...

I'd agree except their infections will affect healthcare workers. Neighbor down the street had another party tonight complete with outdoor bonfire to rub it all in our faces. Same one that had an easter party. Husband said I can call the police next time.

Actually it is much more basic than that unless you believe these #*%$*# don't need food and don't meet others at any time. In other words unless the go into strict quarantine after this they are the equivalent of a person getting behind the wheel drunk as a skunk. Even if they don't get sick they are a danger to society. After 5 weeks of WFH and not getting out except for groceries every other week, I too want out. And I should not have to potentially stay inside for additional weeks just because of the selfishness displayed by others. Yet I will SIP until restrictions are relaxed based on the advice of medical experts Thank you to those governors and other leaders who do their job and lead. Fair disclosure: I have liked Newsom ever since he had the guts to allow gay marriage in SF even if those licences were revoked by the SC. Doing what is right v. what is popular requires guts

From the UK....The rest of the World is looking on from afar and thinking WTF are these protests?.....people are going to die, can you not see what is going on across the Country and the World.
Nobody likes lockdown ... just starting my fourth week and told we have another three weeks. Many people are furloughed from their jobs where the Government pays 80% of their wage. Its lonely, its boring..... but its better than the alternative.

Do you understand that in the US we have over fifty different unemployment insurance programs with wildly differing rules? Being idle and getting the lower of 40% of your prior pay or $400 a week is not uncommon. For many families, most of the unemployment check goes to continuing health insurance.
We are terrified and losing our minds because we know that we have no safety net.

I know. Just wait until they completely gut k-12 public education to balance the budget on top of all of it. And we should start opening up after cases decrease for 7 days, because people are just looking too shaggy for Vos's tastes. And school. The kids should absolutely be back in school. Who gives a shit if they eat a foot a part from each other. Haircuts and school! That's what we need to feel normal again.
Conservatives really do think that.....eh, 2-3%, no biggie, right? Dr. Mehmet Oz speaking to Sean Hannity of Fox News on Tuesday about how getting students back into schools could help America get its “mojo back.” ‘I tell you, schools are a very appetizing opportunity. I just saw a nice piece in The Lancet arguing the opening of schools may only cost us 2 to 3 percent, in terms of total mortality.’ www.marketwatch.com/story/dr-oz-slammed-for-suggesting-it-may-only-cost-us-2-to-3-of-american-lives-to-reopen-schools-2020-04-16?mod=autosI’m a conservative and I do not think that.

I’m a conservative and I do not think that. I know you aren't directly quoting me. It's great that you are a conservative and don't think like that. My lawmakers do...and they have the power. We have no capacity for reason anymore where it matters. Like it or not, you and I don't matter, in terms of power.
I tend to be fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Someone on another mommy board was talking about a universal income benefit for 6 months, for anyone that makes less than 130K. I suggested that that should be means tested and other criteria should be put in place. Of course I got lambasted for that.

100% And have a leader who holds such power over the Republican party, they will not state the truth....When DEM governors speak the truth about the cluster of bidding against each other and FEMA for PPE and testing kits, our leader calls them complainers and whinners. And yes, it makes me sick to my stomach the bailout money that went to people who have not been affected financially and the healthy companies that gobbled up all the funds for small businesses. Yes, during a crises like this the Federal government should step in and help people who need it.....

this gem was posted in my town FB page yesterday. the rotary mentioned is about a mile and a half from my house. there was a similar gathering a few weeks back with a bunch of trumpets hawking MAGA garbage and similarly not social distancing. 🤦♀️ comments to this post were a lopsided split of boisterous support of the gathering and outright anger. my town was the only red one on the Cape in 2016, I'll let you guess which direction the tilt fell. 🤔

The state has temporarily frozen foreclosure motions and evictions. Food banks are privately run charities. Mortgage deferments and rent holidays are at the whim of the businesses involved. They were discussed briefly at the beginning of the crisis but once the relief checks and increased unemployment checks and eligibility were announced, talk about them stopped. Once augmented unemployment checks stop arriving, a whole lot of people will be doubling up with relatives in order to minimize housing costs. It's a crazy move during this epidemic, but a lot of people will do it.
We basically fear long-term unemployment more than the disease. I know that's a sign of a sick society. I'm not defending it one little bit. Just trying to explain some of what is driving it.

I’m a conservative and I do not think that. You vote for conservatives who do. And your vote gives them power. How you vote has more effect that what you claim you think.

I am getting sick of Nebraska and Iowa. I am not sure our rugged pioneer spirit is going to will us out of a pandemic. You go ahead and go to Nebraska Outlet, I'll wait a month to see how many of you idiots get sick. Hope buying your cheap outlet crap in person is worth it.
I am also sick of other states bitching to me about Nebraska and Iowa. I get it we don't have stay at home orders and I 100% agree with you.
That being said you want it to happen the somebody way higher up than our states will need to redefine what "essential" means. My company is NOT essential, antibiotics can take our place for a couple of months just fine. Yeah you don't want to lose a head of beef or pork but herds are insured. If you didn't plan ahead enough that your current supply of our product is either gone or expired that is your freaking fault.
But since we work in animal health, we could apply and be deemed essential by Homeland security.
The criteria is very loosey goosey. You can turn your head in any direction in both states and find a business that can claim they are a vital part of the food/supply chain. I get we don't have time to shift through every application on an individual basis but from what I see around me A LOT of corporations are really laying it on thick. I also get if my company doesn't make money I may not have a job.
It's still exhausting to have people get on me and be living/working in two states that are pissing the rest of the nation off. Neither state would crash if they shut it all down for a month. My company is making record profits I think they could have spared a couple weeks pay for those of us still in the building so we can be home during the peak.
It's also frustrating to watch both Governors on TV talking about how awesome they are with managing the crisis and all the things they have restricted. Whoopee I can't get a hair cut. You do realize that 100 people are still working at my company every day right and we aren't observing 6 feet of distance because the building isn't big enough to do that?
Same with all the meat plants we have here. It's only a matter of time before cases skyrocket at our local plants. And our local plants hire A LOT of illegals from all over the world who are going to be too scared to confess they have COVID. I am so glad DH doesn't work in one anymore.

Most low-income or 1099/SE workers have been unsuccessful in getting UI or any other sort of income during this time.
I applied the day self-employed, 1099 contractors could and have yet to be approved/denied.
My DS's GF worked full-time cutting hair. She applied and has not yet been approved/denied though has had zero income since the middle of March.
Of myself, DS1, DS1 and GF, none of us received the $1200 stimulus, though all of us are eligible and have used direct deposit.
It's simple at this point, they are starving low income people and making everyone freak out because there's no access to any money to pay bills.
At some point, like now, people start preferring to take their chances at work rather than starve, have no heat, and not be able to pay the rent.
And then you have the "freedom" group who believe their God's invisible bubble protects them from the virus. And, the Trump cult who does whatever he insinuates.
It's a shit show. Time to stock up and hunker down while Darwin's work shows itself in full-color in your local ICU.

definitely just read the comments in the various FB posts about that rally I mentioned above. I'm not at all surprised by the flavor of most of it, and if they all get their way, maybe I'll be able to snap up a nice vacation home really cheap in a few months when the dust settles. wow...

Florida's is only $275. That's less than what someone would make at 40 hours of min wage. It won't even cover my mortgage or most people's rent in a Florida city.

Not much. My state, Florida, has the worst unemployment - $275 a week which is more than $50 less than 40 hours of our state's min wage. Florida's population has been increasing rent prices and that won't cover more than a 1 bedroom in most of the cities and even some of that. It won't cover my mortgage. It also goes on for the shortest time - 12 wks before the extension. Oh and they've only managed to pay 4% of unemployment applications since this all began. Food pantries are privately run and are getting inundated over their normal. Mortgage payments are up to whoever holds it, same with rent, though evictions and foreclosers are temporarily suspended.

Doing what is right v. what is popular requires guts I would agree with that logic it were possible for every human being on the planet to be totally isolated for an adequate period of time thus allowing those who, at the moment of isolation, are infected to die or recover. Also need the time for all coronavirus 19 cells that are not in a host to die as well. That is not possible. At some point most people have to break that isolation. So what I see will happen is that we will have smaller and smaller waves of infection roll through the human population as more develop antibodies until a vaccine is readily available and it will become rare. Personally, I am avoiding going out in the vast ocean of humanity as much as I can so to not catch a wave as long as possible. I encourage others to do the same. It is up to them to do as they will.

Problem is, it doesn't look like people are developing much immunity. Virology community are communicating though........ and there are a few promising ideas.
Our one is having human trials next week and they a using a different virus to transmit it for better immunity.

It looks like about 32% of a healthy community has developed antibodies. This is a small study, but a third of the population I do not think is ‘not much immunity’. www.yahoo.com/news/test-200-people-just-outside-144732703.html

Or, more specifically, over two decades of management from the GOP that consider those that lose their jobs as lazy SOBs that shouldn't be helped. Though from my understanding Voldemort was the one that utterly gutted the system to what it is today.

I'm fairly certain that there are other states that max out at lower numbers, or have rules or regulations or delays that make their programs even worse than Florida's.
I was just trying to give you a sense of how far above the concrete our safety net is set. It might not matter if it is six inches or eighteen when you are plunging into it from almost any distance above. At either setting, you'll hit the concrete hard, probably break something important, and need considerably help disentangling yourself from the net.
