The town were my DD and other family members live is reopening. The movie theater is opening but no refillable popcorn. I don't know what self-distancing will be used. My DDs other group is also meeting tonight. I'm sure 6 to 10 feet apart seating. My DD is super busy and I'll need to wait for the weekend to ask more questions.

Aw carp! The stupid mayor in Jacksonville is reopening the beaches starting tomorrow. Even with "rules" on personal space, I don't expect this to go well. Get ready for coronavirus, Round 2. Idiots! (Those of you who saw the movie "Jaws" will remember this idiot...)

Really??!
I don't think I will go anywhere for awhile, when things open in my area. And I don't plan on going anyplace where there are groups of people. I will continue social distancing, until I feel like thing are under control again. As much as I dislike doing it, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

In the absence of a proven treatment or vaccine, I hope that MD and AZ are a long way away from reopening. I am concerned that the minute AZ reopens, my 80 year old parents will go back to running around all day.
Is it bad I am hoping the places that go first don't have people that I know and love?

How's this opening "29 states" going to work? Florida is opening its beaches. Swell. If Florida opens, does that mean the airlines can fly in and out and bring in people from states that haven't "opened"? Or carry asymptomatic people from Florida to California if California hasn't opened? WTF? What about Georgia and Alabama that abut Florida. If Georgia and Alabama don't open, does that mean that people from those states can't drive across the state lines? Or, if Florida opens, will Floridians be banned from leaving the state?
Senator Kennedy from Louisiana doesn't think it's a big deal if there's collateral damage in order to keep the economy from collapsing.
In his infinite wisdom, with his penchant for pouting, his suspicion of even the most loyal supporters, and his limitless ability to carry a grudge, Trump invited every GOP senator except Mitt Romney to join his economic recovery task force. It sure seems to me that Romney would probably add value to such a group.

Movie theaters don't see 'slow open' to me.... I mean, I love the movies... but I'm not headed there any time soon...
Maybe the drive in... i was thinking, if they had a row of porta potties... with wipes at every one, or one person in the bathroom with 6 foot dots for lines, they might be able to open?

I'm pretty sure I plan to stay in for at least 2 week after things start opening up. Wait to see if those in charge were right (faith in pettigrew is low) and if the crazies actually listen or fuck everything up. I'm expecting to see video of it being a shit show on the beach on the evening news.

The good news about AZ, we don't have a projected hospital bed shortage. As long as they can get supplies and meds, it will take a lot to overwhelm our care system. Unless your parents are in Navajo country, there are resources. Also, we are fairly spread apart, and we have lots of "room". Wide sidewalks, big parking lots, etc. Not that we are immune or anything. Just at this time, this isn't the worst place to be. If that whole heat/sunshine thing is true and will slow it, even better. We got heat enough to kill all sorts of things.

thyme4change If heat and sunshine did the trick, Saharan and sub-Saharan countries wouldn't have it. So much for that idea.

Heat definitely does NOT affect the rate of people catching the virus. If that were true, Miami wouldn't have the huge number of cases it is fighting. (Their county currently has the most cases of the entire state of Florida.)

I experienced the scorching sun in CA the first part of March when one case. If heat was the killer, it would not exist there. Neighbors have said some of the fast food places with outside seating are allowing eating outside. Edit 2. I was going to get a UV light to put in the house. H. said absolutely not. UV kills everything in a short time but is dangerous.

I saw a couple of analogies on FB that are really spot on.
The curve is flattening; we can start lifting restrictions now = The parachute has slowed our rate of descent; we can take it off now
And
Just because you start feeling better do you stop taking the antibiotics?

I'm not planning on going out and about. I give it about 3 weeks for a big surge in cases to hit. How sad, more people will die. Indiana just went above 10000 cases which put us up into the next category. Oh joy. I'm worried. I think they will force people who signed up for UE to go back to work or lose their jobs. I think that was one of the reasons so they don't have to pay it.
What a mess and a leader fomenting insurrection. Some of those freaks will start shooting people.

Well, I caught some film on the people returning to the beaches at Jacksonville. Doesn't look like they were doing a very good job of social distancing, although some did. It's the ones who won't distance themselves that will screw things up for everyone.

Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall between Lincoln and Omaha is going to reopen next week. The governor of Nebraska isn't going to ask them not to.
There was a woman in Michigan, I think, on the news last night saying it's foolish to trash the economy with stay-at-home guidelines, and we need to get back to work.
Right. Let's all go out and infect as many people as we can find. Maybe we can even infect some who will recover and then still test positive weeks after recovery so that they, too, can go out and infect even more.
Meanwhile, trump tweeted "liberate Michigan, Virginia and Minnesota." This isn't leadership. It's an irresponsible lack of leadership. He forgot to say that there are "very fine people on both sides."

The theater was only selling popcorn! ! ! Of course. That is where the theater's real profits are. It's not the price of the ticket. It's popcorn. A bag of popcorn at the grocery store is cheap and makes a lot of popcorn. Imagine how little it costs for the theater to buy popcorn in the quantities they do, compared to the price they charge to pop it and put it in a bag or bucket.

Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall between Lincoln and Omaha is going to reopen next week. The governor of Nebraska isn't going to ask them not to. A lot of the stores in the outlet are refusing to go along. The stores are privately owned so while the Outlet can declare itself open they can't make the stores open their doors. I'm following the story. The dynamics are interesting.

He forgot to say that there are "very fine people on both sides." He's targeting Dem governors he doesn't like and would probably hold back fed supplies when their rates go up. Found a slide show and Minnesota is the best off but Michigan is #7 per this slideshow. Virginia is in the middle. Looks like a vindictive test to me, but I think its more likely that people in Trump states will press on to open more than perhaps those he targeted. www.msn.com/en-us/money/healthcare/states-with-the-highest-number-of-covid-19-cases-per-capita/ss-BB12GEFi?ocid=spartanntp#image=44

Ugh. Outlet malls are crazy weird, crowded places. It will not be the first place I will go when restrictions are lifted.
