Yet, last week as many as 240,000 Americans were possibly going to die from this thing even if we did 'everything right.'
That was straight from Dr. Fauci.
"Fauci did not say which model he is using to come up with the estimate ."
Because he was using bad data all along and finally pulled his head out of his fourth-point-of-contact.
Regardless, the 'experts' and government hacks can pat themselves on the back and say the steps they took worked, when the truth is that Sweden had it right all along -- protect your high risk citizens, social distance, and don't stop working.
Try being as wrong at your job as these government officials and see how long you work there.
"Fauci lowers U.S. coronavirus death forecast to 60,000, says social distancing is working."
You know who is going to be the closest to the actual death toll when all this is said and done? President Trump, who was excoriated for comparing the death toll from Covid-19 to that of flu season.
His number was 55,000.
*drops mic*

If trump is right - it is only because of the lockdown! Which he resisted and wanted to lift prematurely!! What would the prediction be without the lockdowns Hilarious! As if trump had any basis for the prediction! As if we haven't changed the course of the disease with extreme actions.... Wow. just. unbelievable really!

I see a lowered death toll as a positive thing, not something worth fighting about. And initially Trump called this a hoax with no projected death toll, so he wasn't exactly in the right ballpark at the beginning either.

There has been tremendous effort that went into keeping the number of deaths lower than anticipated. There is no such effort in the standard flu season.

I'm looking forward to more Democrat wailing on Election Day when Trump gets re-elected. LOL

if you don't know the difference, then keep yourself ignorant and pro-trump.
No one really cares about your senseless crowing. Well - the comedy part is nice.
you have no information, no facts, nothing to offer in conversion or reasoned argument about any of these topics.
you are part of a cult-like devotion that defies logic. fine - feel free.
Do you need to post this drivel to receive the reinforcement you need to keep engaged in your delusional belief system?
If you aren't fighting against the "democrats" and their imagined conspiracies, what have you got?

Trumps early stance on the virus was mirrored by the WHO in late February. That was 6 weeks ago. We've all read the '6 weeks ago mistakes' by Trump, posted by our local experts over here last week. Trumps getting the blame when it turned out worse for the U.S. than it was anticipated by the experts ? Delusional indeed !

But feel free to post a link, SOP here, that backs up your claim about illegals with illnesses. In the meantime I’ll note your deflection away from your previous bogus Obama comment.

Hind sight is always 20/20. So easy to criticize the earlier response in a novel virus situation. It would of been so much easier for Trump to 'Obama it' and give a 2 hour speech that concluded nothing, in true orator fashion.

You really are a true trumper. Can't keep from insulting everyone or group you disagree with. I've always said trump is his own worst enemy and his name calling will help keep him a one term president. Biden will ignore his emotional outbursts and continue with intelligent conversation on the facts, not diversions.
BTW add me to the clique.

Even if this estimate is correct, our country will still lose 60,000 people. And, the current administration did not take this virus seriously, when it was already obvious in other countries that coronavirus is nothing to play with. Even one unnecessary death is one too many, especially if it's a member of your family. And, as the media has pointed out, there have already been cases where families have lost more than one member to this vicious virus. However many citizens we lose, it is nothing to crow about. A loss is still a loss. And, there are parts of the country who are STILL trying to get things "back to normal" when certain areas are still posting increasing rates of illness. IMHO, I think, sadly, we will exceed 60,000. But then, I like to crunch numbers as a hobby. I take no pleasure at all in what is happening in our country. And, I am very concerned about deaths that aren't even being included in the total body count.

I believe the current 60k estimated based only on continued lock downs - but that can't continue forever. Are they going to try to stop transmission completely - render the virus contained, extinct, what? I'm unclear of the long term plans. Are they anticipating a vaccine is developed while we are on lockdown? I heard there was a study transfusing plasma from a recovered patient to those who were doing poorly and they improved. Just a case study but I haven't seen that line of research followed up on as yet.

Projections change as facts change. Or is this too hard for you to understand. Do I need to type slower.

Go ahead and research what Obama did during H1N1 instead of turning yourself into a liar. And I’m sure you must be aware of the vast differences in this pandemic. Right? I know that Obama refused to secure the border and continued to order border agents to turn their backs on all the illegal aliens pouring into the country with illnesses. Anything else he 'made the motions' of doing are negated by that fact. The outbreak in nyc originated in Europe. Exactly how did closing the border with China help that?

Fauci was saying in January that the virus wouldn't be a big threat, just like Trump did. Yet Trump is being criticized for saying that but Fauci isn't. So apply your 'signs' to everybody and don't be a hypocrite.

Satire from The Borowitz ReportFauci Begs Pharma Companies to Speed Development of Anti-Narcissism DrugBy Andy Borowitz WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Stating that “time is of the essence,” Dr. Anthony Fauci is imploring the nation’s pharmaceutical companies to fast-track the development of a drug to treat narcissism. Acknowledging that narcissistic-personality disorder has historically been resistant to medication, the esteemed virologist said that a breakthrough drug was “urgently needed.” “I have seen the toll that narcissism takes, day in, day out,” Fauci said. “The human cost is incalculable.” Without offering scientific evidence or data, Fauci argued, “Successfully treating one narcissist could substantially reduce the misery and suffering of millions.” The epidemiologist said that, as soon as a promising anti-narcissism drug is developed, he would “personally mastermind” its clinical trials.
