... But I wonder how many have quit to get UE. ... In Washington state, you don't qualify if you quit your job.

I have no idea when she quit, did not ask, it could have been when this first started. I wondered if there was some protection for that.

You can't quit in our state to collect UI either. I would think that would be pretty universal. LOTS of people would be quitting right now if that was the case.

DH qualified for unemployment since he is a furloughed preschool teacher and falls into the position of earning more than he would typically make. He usually nets $400/week. I haven't looked at the numbers but he said the website shows 45% of 400 = 180. Plus the $600 extra for a total of $780/week. The extra will go into savings to replace his car when this is all over - something we were already planning this year since his is a 2006 with 225k miles and no AC.
We don't qualify for the $1200 relief since I make too much. That's what I figured and as it should be.

I was talking to the person who does the payroll for us and she pointed out that I wasn't looking at all the aspects of my pay when considering how this played out. I get a 3% match on IRA. Gone. Payment into Social Security. Gone. It will be taxable income so can't just look at the take-home amount. Simple numbers made me think I was about breaking even. And it will be close short term. Long term not so much.

. We could have filed returns for DD and MIL, but why? Would have been issues with their Medicaid so we opted out of the $1200 each. We aren't trying to get it. I need to look at our returns, I think we may each get it. Fine if we do, fine if we don't. We may donate some or it in for rental money we don't receive. To be determined. According to my research the stimulus payment is not counted as income and won't be counted as an asset for 1 year. I'll move my father's payment into the account I'm holding on his behalf but not in his name.

I talked to our attorney about this just a couple of weeks ago, they had no guidance at that time. With MIL we had to initiate a loan and paying it back monthly to do something with the VA payments we cannot get them to stop, that was the money in the account, then its recognized as income and transferred to the Miller trust monthly. I wonder as I would think only the interest is income, but they should know. And I can see hubs and I having to pay the money back to VA one day. She said do not, if we finally, ever get a demand letter, she will deal with it. Even the attorney groups cannot get it stopped. I have a nightmare tracking and circuitous system now to keep it down. We still haven't received a letter back from the state to know if they are cutting her off Medicaid for it yet. As of Nov her VA pension was supposed to be reduced from $1228 to $90 a month and still has not. Would be great if between it and SS we had enough to cover the cost but it comes up over $3000 a month short. Our attorney says he has people that have tried to cut it off for a year and a half now and they have had to set this kind of system up. So no, I'm not interested in getting $1200 I would have to find some way of dealing with.
