I also saw an article that a couple of stores are looking at making aisles one way. The Walmart where my son works has made one door an entrance, one-way aisles that wrap through the food section, closed off all the other areas of the store to shoppers, and then you exit via the check stand. He said they are no longer ordering non-food products and you can't shop those areas of the store anymore.

So I'm not super familiar with WalMart layouts...but does that mean you can't get to personal products anymore either like toothpaste, hygiene products, etc? Is it literally just food?

I have no plans to visit Wal-Mart anytime soon, but I can't fathom how they could implement this in the new Wal-Mart near us. It's a super WM, replacing a non-super (because WM here never used to carry groceries until just a few years ago). The right quarter of the store is the garden center, the middle 50% is normal non-grocery items, and the left quarter is groceries. So the garden entrance is at 10% of the frontage, main entrance at 25% of frontage, and grocery entrance at 75% (farthest from either front or side street entrance). You could just use the grocery entrance and block off everything beyond that. However, the pharmacy is tucked in a corner of the main section (non grocery) closest to the garden center. If you want to keep the pharmacy open (I'd think you would), then you'd need to allow people to wander WAY to the other side to get to it. If they want one door in, one door out, the main entrance would be in, detour to right to pharmacy or follow long path left past closed departments to reach groceries, go to back, snake thru aisles one way, reach checkout (but crossing paths with incoming shoppers), go out grocery doors. OR, in main entrance, follow longer path thru main aisle to back and left to groceries (past nearly all closed sections) so no crossing paths, but lots more frustration at sections you can't touch, etc.

I feel like I catch a disease every time I go to WalMart.

Last week the super Walmart had one door closed presumably to do the one entrance, count customers, etc. I haven't been back to that one since.
The closer non super Walmart had no one counting customers, no one way aisles, nothing marked off yesterday. It has more narrow aisles and could benefit from one way traffic.
People are going to need stuff from the health and beauty section.

Missouri finally went to shelter at home on Monday. My county has been for a couple of weeks.

What good does that do if everyone has to stand outside in line together? Or is it mainly to protect employees and/or allow the store to function with less employees?

It puts everyone about 10.95 feet apart. That may sound generous but when someone wants to move, it's tricky. Humans are not good at moving like schools of fish, especially in mazes.

I was thinking if you had a "take a number" setup at the door and then people could scatter around the parking lot until their number was called.

If everybody outside doesn't comply with guidelines, the stores can at least do what they can to protect their employees. If others do not care about their health, there is nothing they can do except have the police enforce it or close.

Lots of places are putting dots or lines or etc. 6 feet apart so that people can adequately distance.

Hmmm... I didn't think of that. I went by Sam's Club on the weekend and there were 200+ people waiting in line for them to open. I'm not doing that! I guess they could manage it like the BMV, although that didn't work so well, either.
I don't have a solution, just curious about available options. I only go to the grocery once during the week and wait til they've been open a while to avoid the crowds. I'm always stocked-up, so there's nothing I need right away. Even with no crowds people still get too close to me and try to start conversations. I just want them to go away!

Even before my grocery put tape lines down outside, everyone was standing 6 feet apart when waiting outside.

I don't know what the stores are doing locally. I haven't been to one in weeks. DH went 10 days ago. The few times I've driven by, the parking lots have been packed. I have an old construction N95 I can wear, but I find it very hot/uncomfortable after a while. I have no desire to wear it for an hour + while I do a large shopping trip in a big crowd. I placed my first pick up order last night/ this morning. That was no picnic either. It took probably 2 hours to place, and at the end, there were no open slots for either pickup or delivery. Fortunately, my cart was still there this morning, and a few slots opened up. I won't know until tomorrow afternoon how it all turned out.
