People need to go to the link for accurate information. From the link: "Her general message? "There's no point in wearing gloves, if ...". Her general message isn't, "DON'T".

I dont wear gloves while shopping. I touch as little as possible. I carry my own sanitizing wipe and when I’m done I sanitize my hands. When I get home I wash them

I don't wear gloves while shopping. I carry my own Lysol wipes in a baggie in my purse & OBSESSIVELY wipe down my cart. I know my habits & that I sometimes grab the end of the cart and drag it behind me instead of pushing it and that's why I'm obsessive about wiping down 99% of my cart. My store also has a spray bottle of disinfectant at the door, so I spray all of my cart down with that too. then I take it one step too far (in my kiddo's opinion) and put plastic veggie bags from the produce dept over the handle so that I'm never actually touching the handle with my bare hands. There's no more reading labels either. If I touch it, I buy it. When I have to open a cooler door in the freezer/dairy dept, I use a lysol wipe to open it. I scan my own discount card at checkout so the checker never touches it. I wipe down the keypad on the pay thingymabob with a lysol wipe before AND after I use it. Just being nice for whoever is behind me & might not carry wipes around with them. I still let them bag my groceries & carry them to the car. When I'm in the car, I whip out the small bottle of hand sanitizer and clean my hands. When I get home, I do use gloves (garden gloves, but still) to carry in all the bags. Then we don't need to talk about my obsession with wiping off anything that goes into the panty, washing veggies, getting rid of every last piece of plastic bags asap, & scrubbing my hands up to my shoulders & changing clothes. Cause then I start to sound a little weird & I try to keep my crazy on the downlow if possible.

When I was at grocery yesterday I wore one glove on right hand. That way I could turn cans and read labels. Need to stay low sodium as much as possible. Used the same hand to handle everything, and as I walked out of the door took the glove off and dumped in trash.
Saw people with masks, both gloves, single gloves, no mask, no gloves. ...... But saw very few couples shopping. It was 98% single people and we stayed away from each other. Didn't see or hear a cough or sneeze.
When I got home I washed hands, products, and put things away.
I know it isn't perfect, but with all the conflicting information it's hard not to get paranoid.
No one knows yet ....... but as long as we are doing our best with the information we have ..........
Just read on MSN news ...... a couple of tigers in NY Bronx zoo have tested positive for the virus

The vast majority of people I've seen aren't using masks or gloves correctly. Which pretty much results in them being useless to downright dangerous if they have a false sense of protection.

Y'all have no freaking idea how much this debate about wearing gloves while shopping makes the "essential" workers in grocery stores feel.
I've had to delete just about everything that I typed after that. It's very angry
Let's just say that hearing some of you brag about how you protect yourself while shopping makes quite a few os us feel damned in quite a few ways.
If you really cared about yourself and your family and the rest of us, you'd be severely limiting your shopping right now instead of bragging about how brave and smart you were.

I actually saw an elderly man on Friday waiting in line for one of the self-check registers. While he was waiting he was coughing into his GLOVED hand which he then proceeded to use all over the self-check terminal.

My keeping myself safe while in a grocery store in no way makes it less safe for the people working in the store. My wife returned to her job at the local grocery store today after spending 14 days at home. We spent a great deal of time the past few days on how she could keep herself safe. She spoke positively about shoppers who were wearing masks and keeping proper social distancing.

But I have already drastically changed how I shop because I have a son who is an essential worker in a box store. I don't touch anything I'm not going to buy, I don't linger or wander around the store anymore, I make a list, stick to it & get out asap. I only go once a week instead of multiple times like I typically would. I try to not have the cashier & bagger touch anything of mine other than the groceries & even then I try real hard to not overly "handle" what I buy. Pick it up, put it in the basket & don't touch it again until it's in my house. I don't go down an aisle if there is anyone else on it, I can wait without any problem. I don't walk up on employees or invade their space if I can't avoid them.
If there's more we should be doing, tell us. Please! I want to do everything I can to protect them as well as myself. If things we're doing are making it worse, please tell us & let us know what would be a better way to do it. Not being snarky at all, please tell us what is the best way to handle things when we're in the store because I have to be there once a week & I want to make it as safe as possible for everyone involved.

Unfortunately, people need to eat. And the stores are limiting how much you can buy. 2 packages of meat, one dozen eggs, one loaf of bread, etc. We are a family of four and three of us are eating three meals a day at home. The fourth is an essential worker. The limited food we can buy doesn’t go very far Fiancé is already in grocery stores all day, every day due to his job. He does the shopping for us to limit who goes out. But we either let people hoard food or we accept that they are going to be there more than once a week. What we need to do is force people to adhere to guidelines. Social distancing, wiping cart, not touching everything My grocery store does a great job. We no longer touch anything for the shopper card. We give the cashier our phone number and she types it in. They have gloves, spray and sanitizer. They also put strips so you know where to stand when you are in line

I am doing my best to limit the grocery trips to twice a month. After a week to 10 days we are out of fresh produce, so we eat canned or frozen vegetables. I’ve completely changed my menu planning around that reality. I am profoundly grateful to every one who works in the grocery store. The least I can do is do my best to limit my trips. I truly thank you

I wish my stores were still doing online ordering where you have them bring the items to your car. That’s how I’ve been shopping for groceries and household supplies for a couple of years now.
But both stores I frequent for those purchases have suspended those services. To me, shopping that way would be ideal now, to limit contact. The stores wouldn’t have shoppers wandering around touching random items and otherwise spreading germs. The employees wouldn’t have to have contact with the shoppers, and the purchases would go straight into a shopper’s vehicle trunk, where everything except perishable items can sit until that individual is comfortable/feels that it’s safe to touch them and bring them inside their home.
I don’t really understand why we’ve gone backwards, and those services aren’t offered anymore. Maybe someone here can enlighten me.
I don’t wear gloves when I have to go into stores these days. What I do is, only touch or pick up things with my left hand. And as soon as I get back to my car, use hand sanitizer on both hands. But I’m always mindful that my left hand is the “germier” one that I use to open doors, pick up things with, push buttons with when I’m using my card, even sign my name with, despite the fact that I’m right handed, so my signatures are completely illegible now, but that hasn’t stopped me from being able to complete a transaction so far. And when I get home, I immediately wash my hands in the guest bathroom, which also happens to be the closest bathroom to the garage entrance, then figure out what I need to bring in immediately and what can stay in the trunk of my car for a while.
I’ve come to hate the smell of Lysol disinfectant spray, and my hands are super dry from all the washing and hand sanitizer use. But that’s just part of life right now.
I do believe that wearing plastic gloves gives people a false sense of security. I’ve seen how people do dumb things while wearing gloves, at my job.

Wearing masks protects the workers more than the shoppers.

They also put strips so you know where to stand when you are in line I wish our local stores put limits on some items. I've been shopping at 9 PM or later to avoid the crowds and generally finding empty shelves for certain items - sometimes the meat counter is almost cleared out, sometimes the coffee or bread options are slim. Last time I went, kitty litter was low (kitty litter ). Very occasionally I'll find some TP, and once I was able to snag a small thing of bleach. It's ridiculous - there are no shortages except the fake shortages generated by panic buying. If the stores limited people to one six pack of TP and one bottle of bleach we'd be fine. I've changed how I shop due to the virus - and I don't mean to insult or worry the store workers. I just know that I live in an area with a large percentage of people who think the whole virus thing is a joke, or a dem hoax. I don't trust them to self isolate if they feel sick, or to wash their hands often. Plus, I'm plus 60 with asthma, so if I some doctor says to rattle chicken bones and dance in a circle before I got into a store, I'll try it.

I’ve seen how people do dumb things while wearing gloves, at my job.
One of our stupid monthly safety audit questions is "Describe how to properly take off gloves". Every single one of us mimed pulling it off with our teeth. By the way that is apparently the wrong answer. I have seen people picking them off finger by finger, putting them down on the counter and then putting them back on when they are ready t go outside. I had to try real hard not to go over and start lecturing them. You just contaminated your hands people. If you can't use them properly (a quick Google search will provide ample PPE videos) then don't use them. You are better off washing your hands and using sanitizer when you can't. I did finally point it out to somebody at the resturant but he snapped at me. Said he didn't care about proper usage he doesn't work in a lab. I sprayed and wiped everything he touched, who knows where the hell those gloves had been all day. Have fun with your coronavirus and the 20 other million germs you just transferred to your food.

I wore some fresh nitriles today to buy plants at a grocery store nursery area. Came home and washed with the gloves on and then peeled them off. Then washed my hands too.

Yeah, I’ve seen my coworkers touch their face and/or their personal items while wearing the gloves. I’ve mentioned here a few times the coworker I yelled and cursed at after he grabbed my cell phone out of my hands while wearing the gloves. They are DISPOSABLE! Take them off before you touch your face or person, or personal items, and THROW THEM AWAY! Get a new pair before you go back to work. I don’t know what’s so hard to understand about how this is supposed to work. My daughter, who is generally not as nice as I am, is apparently more forgiving in these circumstances because when I was bitching about my coworkers, she told me that she thinks most people are trying, they just have problems breaking habits. I imagine there’s some truth to that, but I really didn’t want to hear it. It was a surprise (a good one, I guess) coming from my daughter, who was trying to be all mature and shit.

I'm not sure if you are mad at me or not....however, I spent over 30 yrs. in retail and some of it was in drug stores where I got exposed to every sick person that came into the store. If I could catch it, I usually did. So I'm not going into stores more than I absolutely need to. And after my excursion last Thur., I now know that our Piggly Wiggly is better stocked than both Walmart or Publix...so that's where I'll be doing the majority of my shopping when I have to go again. I have 2 freezers...a chest type & an upright besides my bottom fridge freezer...we have plenty to eat in most things. What I'll run out of next will be bread & milk....and both were stocked in my freezers.
