ISO shaved his head for the first time today. Apparently he had been thinking about it for a while and this just pushed him that last bit. It looks ok. I want to dye my hair but I don't know what brand to use. What do the ladies that do it themselves like? I use Nice-n-Easy, chosen as it is inexpensive and a shade really close to my natural color. I alternate between 2-3 shades when I color, and I only do the roots. The one thing you do NOT want to do is draw the color all the way to the end of the strand of hair. My hairdresser said she can’t do any better.

I want to dye my hair but I don't know what brand to use. What do the ladies that do it themselves like? I use Clairol's Natural Instincts Semi Permanent. It basically colors my half assed gray and doesn't mess with my natural color that is hanging tough. I use one shade lighter than my natural so it just looks like mild highlighting.
Hate to say this but doing your own hair might be a lot of trial and error. My first time long ago I wound up looking like Cindi Lauper! Fortunately isn't wasn't permanent and I washed a lot to tone it down and finally it was gone.
Good luck and just go for it!!
ETA if you want longer lasting color go with a permanent one. Mine says 28 shampoos but last a little longer than that.

If you color yourself for the first time, go a shade lighter than you think. The few times I havent liked my own dye job is one ive slipped up and convinced myself it wasnt going to be too dark.
Dd7 was "so bored" today and "no one was playing with her" so she cut her own bangs. Bangs that she chose to grow out for 18 months and just now tucked nicely off her face. She fessed up as bedtime from a guilty conscious and it was dark enough that I couldn't really see the damage. Waiting for her to emerge this morning.

Carrot day 28 of house arrest. He kinda looks like a girl T1 dated. I'd better not share that with Carrot. His dad yesterday told him his hair looked "gross" and he looked like a girl. So now he wants a haircut. I'm so jealous of his hair (both my kids), it's so thick and soft. I love just running my fingers through it. He doesn't normally look like a Troll doll. LOL

NoNamePerson-funny you should mention the Cyndi Lauper colors. I dyed my hair black in my first freshman year in college. When I went to my mom's for Thanksgiving, she and my sister made me strip it out to color it back to normal-ish. Nobody realized color stripper would turn my hair bright fucking orange! It took 2 boxes of brown to cover it! I was pissed because I liked the black but they didn't want my dad to have a heart attack when I went home for Christmas. The joke was on them. I wound up in the hospital Christmas night with appendicitis. Then he got my phone bill. Hair color was the least of my problems!

His hair is awesome and he is a cutie! Is his hair red? If so that’s why Carrot!! I’m a redhead but now through the wonders of chemistry I really disliked being called carrot as a kid, but kids are so sensitive about their looks. Looking at old photos I love my hair and freckles

Looking at old photos I love my hair and freckles My niece is a strawberry blonde, and very fair with no freckles (same coloring as Nicole Kidman). Rather than embracing that, she dyes her hair blonde and tries to tan. When I see pictures of her, she now looks like everyone else. I want to slap her!

The kid has almost no ability to tan his skin tone is so light.

Earlier I said the AZ hairstylists were open. Not any more. What are the weekly fluff and buff women going to do ? Ask for a house call? A neighbor said there was an old man trying to get into a barbershop. Someone told him they were closed and why. He hadn't heard anything about the pandemic. Yes, they are out there.

I'm sure plenty of stylists will make house calls over the next few weeks.

I trimmed across the bottom of mine in the back, probably not a good job, after I washed it. Then rolled it, looks decent. I hope I didn't mess it up to bad, my beautician will love me.

DH told me today my roots are showing. I said well yeah, I have an appointment tomorrow - but of course it is cancelled.
If I had my beautician's phone, I might see if she would do my hair at home, (I know she does do some people at her house), but she lives a long way from where I live.
I could buy a box of dye, but meh, I will think about it next week. My hair color is real washed out.

Mine has at least 2 inches of roots exposed now, I was due when this first happened. Just going to let it grow and see how it looks, same with DD. I have dye for her, may or may not use it.

I've been Keratining my really curly hair for the past few years. It's currently straight, wavy and curly in different sections. The choppy haircut looked so good when I first had a cut and keratin. Now I closely resemble the kid from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. And its too short to put in a ponytail. What??!! No no more long, curly, hair hanging over cowboy boots??!! 😂

Fortunately I went pretty blonde with my highlights last time. So the gray is blending pretty well so far.

I bought some Madison Reed color. It came yesterday and I am a little sad that I need to wash, not put in any product, then wait 24 hours to use it. I'm getting a few grays but haven't colored my hair. I'm bored now so figured what the heck. If it is awful I can try something else later.

Earlier I said the AZ hairstylists were open. Not any more. What are the weekly fluff and buff women going to do ? Ask for a house call? Yeah, I know- there are "blowout bars" in my area- I guess they wash (or wet) your hair and then dry and style it. I'm not that high-maintenance. Never have colored my hair and I'm not going to start now. I just get a blunt haircut at chin length. It's longer than that now but I have so little contact with people it doesn't matter. The only times I remember to comb it are for Zoom meetings. If you color yourself for the first time, go a shade lighter than you think. The few times I haven't liked my own dye job is when I've slipped up and convinced myself it wasn't going to be too dark. Amen to that. Dark dye jobs are harsh and unflattering- I've seen that on both men and women. It's one reason I'd never try DIY hair coloring. I'd find a good colorist who knows how to put in highlights so it looks more natural, but that's probably not gonna happen. And add me to the list of people who think Carrot is adorable!

That's my dream if I were filthy rich to have a hairstylist come and dry my hair. I hate short hair on me. Hate it. My hair is thick, wavy and holds water. It takes days to completely air dry. So not drying in the winter isn't an option.
By the time I get my shower in the evening, I'm exhausted and I just want to sleep. I already get up at 530am so I'm not getting up earlier to shower in the morning.
I don't think I'm super high maintenance but that would be my first splurge.

I had hair like this 20 years ago - once after surgery, I went to a stylist to get it washed and blow dried - she charged me 100$ for that as it took her 2 hours to dry my hair. Lately my hair is falling out in clumps and I have to only dry the base near the neck.

I've definitely gone to my salon for a blowout if I have an event and don't need a cut yet. Plus, my blowouts last a week and my hair looks its best. Ugh, someone make me independently wealthy so I get my hair done all the time. My strands are fine and wavy, but it's ridiculously dense so people think I have thick hair. It also takes forever to dry and I have a hair washing schedule (normal times: Sunday, Tuesday, Friday because those are my work from home days. 24/7 home schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).) Husband wants a mohawk. I might finally do it for him this weekend. Eep.

Finally broke down and had DH give me a haircut. Went pretty short, but feels like I lost 5 pounds from my head.
While we were on back porch, my back yard neighbor was also out getting a trim.

DH and I got haircuts the week before our hairdresser had to close her shop; not planned it just happened that way. Both of us are getting a bit shaggy around the edges but not any different than anyone else in town. I stopped coloring my hair over 8 years ago. My hair is totally grey, a pretty silver color.

My hair looks like it got caught in the spin cycle of the washing machine. I go out in a jaunty chapeau.

I talked to my sister in Seattle last night. She had chemo for breast cancer last year and so her hair is in the process of growing back. She has been in need of a haircut lately, so her wife offered to do it. My SIL used to be dog groomer many years ago and still had her good dog clippers. They settled on a 7/8" cut, and it looks real cute (my sister sent me before and after photos). I have a nephew with curly hair who usually looks bushy. Since he's stuck at home doing computer programming, he decided to just shave his head. I would love to see a photo of that!

I was originally scheduled for a hair appointment today. Other than the gray roots, I'm OK.
However, I also get my brows waxed and a pedicure too. My brows are beginning to look like Oscar the Grouch, and I'm going to need a belt sander on my feet.

Of course, now that I can't get my hair trimmed anywhere, it's growing like crazy. I was surprised yesterday, to notice it's already halfway down my back. (The last time I had really long hair was when DD was a toddler, and then it was past my waist.) I told DD I might just go "back to the 60's", when both men & women had long hair. DS's hair is growing fast now, too. I've already trimmed the front once, and may need to do it again soon. Or, maybe I should tell him that men wearing pony tails is back in fashion.
