Arizona seems to be slowing down, but Louisiana is still breaking records. It is now second in the US for cases per 1 Million of population.

I went to the post office today. No one had masks on, including the 2 people who work there. I watched 10 people go in and I was the only person wearing a mask.

We're not allowing anyone into indoor public places without a mask. That's how you fight this pandemic. Post offices, grocery stores, hardware stores, garden centers, dollar stores...you name it. No mask? No entry.

It isn’t being enforced here. Store personnel are trying to enforce it in many cases. Some of those cases have resulted in violence. Sometimes, the Qarens (I use that to avoid insulting those named Karen) make complete arses of themselves over masking. I saw a video on Twitter where a guy went into a small market without a mask and spat on a display of oranges. The owner of the store saw it and brought a haymaker up from almost floor level and decked the guy. Some people are just very, very bad at accepting authority and/or honoring the rights of others.

I had a heated conversation with my DT supporter dad last night. He was talking about how the system let my nephew down and now he's going to miss his senior year of HS and he wants to go. I informed him it was in fact the orange man that he helped put in the WH house that let him down. He said it was all the governors not locking states down that were to blame. I told him that governors aren't in charge of the US, the president is and instead of handling it he insisted it was a hoax to make him look bad. I pointed out the rate at which people are dying in other countries compared to here. Then he said "People die all the time. They get shot, they get in car accidents, etc." I finally had enough and told him, "Yeah, and now 140,000+ Americans are dead. Cause of death, incompetence." I also informed my father that he's full of $hit. I just can't. That was just the cliff notes. There was more. He also stated that he's voting for him again this election. You can't make this crap up. Well well well. Guess who can't smell or taste anything now. My 17 yo nephew. I told my dad this would happen. They refuse to social distance or and have only recently started wearing masks because the city has now mandated it. According to my dad he's young and will be just fine if he has it. My dad better hope to God nephew tests negative. If not I'm kicking my dad's ass. Nephew works at a restaurant and they still want him to come in since his test hasn't come back yet so he's not officially positive. WTF?! So the test is back and my nephew is positive. My sister just told me tonight. We're all going to get tested. I tested negative on 7/10 and haven't seen him since 7/4, but have seen my sister, niece and parents since. He seems to be doing well according to my sister.

It isn’t being enforced here. A little ray of hope from here. We came north to get out of the fiery pit of hell. We are in a more conservative town that appreciates the wild west independent attitude. We warned the kids that when we went to the grocery store, we might see some maskless folks, and could get a look for complying. But, everyone was in a mask. Even the guy with the jorts and American flag tank top. Maybe people do believe. Maybe they do care. Maybe they are willing to try, just a little. That said, not a single open parking spot at the two restaurants and the one tavern we passed. 🤷♂️

I also hear OSHA is here citing businesses that don't comply, so I'm sure that's helping.

I also hear OSHA is here citing businesses that don't comply, so I'm sure that's helping. We are in an even smaller town now (the one with the packed restaurants and tavern) and I think compliance is more than 50%. We stopped at the gas station and most people pumping gas were wearing masks, and the customers inside seemed to mostly be wearing masks. The lady working was not. The people at the coffee shop were requiring (and wearing masks) but people were eating on the patio, and obviously you can't eat and wear a mask at the same time. My husband popped into the grocery store and he said he was nobody was wearing a mask. I don't really believe him. If anyone wants to drive to the Grand Canyon - now is the time. Very few people.

No, now is NOT the time to travel to distant locations and potentially infect small towns with no health care resources your germs...

World o Meter shows the America at 1650,000 165,000 dead. I just totaled up 8,329 since August 1st (nine days). Florida and Texas have been surging ahead in cases and deaths.
Was just reading about the motorcycle rally in Sturgis South Dakota. Somehow I don't think that it is going to end well for quite a few people who are attending. ::sigh::

the US curve is looking a lot better. I am cautiously optimistic about the short term outlook.
the WORLD curve is actually improving a tiny bit, too. I am less optimistic about that because of INDIA, which promises to be ground zero in a month or two. in a sense, it is already. they are already flirting for #1 in terms of new cases, and there is no end in sight.

Our Public Health official mandated masks for everyone inside a business several weeks before the statewide mandate. I think the only unmasked person I saw in a grocery store was a kid maybe 5 or 6. But most kids I see are masked up and seem fine with it. As a result, our infection rate is low, but surrounding counties are not doing as well - and people do cross counties, so I avoid going out much

covid19.who.int/region/searo/country/in I am not convinced DJ, it seems to burn through one place and hop to another. The Midwest and mid south appear to be in its crosshairs. The governors of Florida and Georgia still aren’t taking it seriously, and schools and colleges haven’t really started in earnest. Fall sports still haven’t been canceled at most universities. And it hasn’t gotten cold yet. It’s optimal temperature was reported to be 45-50. I am fearful for a severe resurgence since I don’t believe we have down enough, are willing to sacrifice more, and still have leaders who aren’t leading. In my opinion, the virus won. Even when we were improving, we still had 20k cases a day. Italy has it down to 100

Italy has it down to 100 yeah, well, we can forget about being Italy, Spain or South Korea on this. in fact, if you go down the list, we really are not doing any better than any countries to date. there is only ONE country with over 6M people that is doing worse than us (Chile) and none with over 20M. we are absolutely in the basement in terms of large population countries. in order for India to catch us, they will need to have 20 million cases (the same as the number worldwide, currently) and 700k dead. i am not sure they will ever catch us, candidly, because although our rate is fairly flat, and theirs is growing, it is going to take MONTHS for them to get to 700k, and by then, our number of deaths will be 1.5-2x what they are now, which means that we will still be the leading death machine, globally, among nations of over 20M.
you have to see the flattening in the case and death totals though. how do you explain that, and when do you expect it to stop?

Based on the experience in the northeast, cases plateaued for a while, while deaths took forever to decline. It was torture to live through. I think Florida, Texas, and Arizona have hit that stage. California, who knows, since it is too big and varied. We are at about 165k deaths, a month from now(Labor Day), I expect us to be at 180k. Unfortunately, cases are going up in the center of the country, so as deaths taper off in the hotspots by the end of the month, the will start to rise elsewhere. I think we are in a national nightmare. Schools opening, colleges restarting in places where the virus is widely circulating is going to cause problems. States need trump to give them cover to make tough, unpopular decisions, but he won’t. I see us having 25-30k cases s day for months. Now, some friends call me doctor doom and gloom, so factor that into my analysis

I'll be very surprised if we make it a month with only 15K deaths...

That is an average of 500/day. It seems cases are declining, age of cases is lower, and treatments are better. So, although 15k is conservative, I think deaths will not be as high as they were in spring. I also think, we will have 250k dead by year end, but that is based on us wearing masks and actually trying to control this is cases spike again. And that is not a sure thing
