DH has asked for bandanas. Now he begins to take it more seriously? I think Walmart has some still. On the side of I must have completely lost my mind, I dropped $160 on a box of 120 fabric masks. And they aren't even arriving until after Easter. I completely feel like I've lost it. Seems like an epic waste of money. I haven't seen anyone selling that many of the fabric masks.

I think I'll start wearing a bedsheet. I don't put them on my bed so may as well get some use out of them. That'll make social distancing easier!

Jiffy Shirts online. I've ordered from them before for projects. They sent an email Sunday with the masks and coupon code.

I looked them up. The masks look to me like they just cut the pattern out of t-shirt fabric. I never thought of that, but I think I could make them myself if I could come up with a good pattern.

I have zero sewing skills so I just ordered them. I'm certain they are overpriced but maybe my DH will be happy. Very few people are wearing masks around here.

Oh I think they would definately be worth the price. Just grab one and go. Throw away when done with it. I just haven't seen anything that looks so simple.

This site has a pattern, instructions and a video. Its very simple www.deaconess.com/How-to-make-a-Face-Mask

Here's a no sew face mask tutorial, similar to a video our local hospital district Director of Communications shared this weekend: *disclaimer: I haven't tried it yet, though plan to for my next grocery grab.

There are 14,000 articles and you tube videos showing how to sew masks, and how to make masks without sewing. Maybe more. It would take you a few minutes to figure something out, no matter your resources.
My favorite one had a little pocket in it, and you were supposed to put a coffee filter in it, and change it out every outing. Not sure how much better it makes it, but it feels like it is something.

I found that I had 8 left from when DS was in his final months and was immune-compromised. I wore one to the Post Office today- felt smothered and a bit silly but if it's reassuring to other people (since it benefits them more than me) I can live with it.
I no longer have mail delivery at my home- got a PO box due to ongoing mail thefts. I try to keep my PO visits to once a week, but today I had Estimated Tax payments (yeah, I know they're no longer due 4/15), my granddaughter's birthday card and a check to the Priests Discretionary fund of my friend, who's Priest-in-Charge at a local church. Every Episcopal priest has one and is allowed to use it wherever they see need. (It's audited periodically to make sure expenditures are in compliance.) I figure she'll know where it will do the most good.

It says they tested it, but didn't tell us the conclusion. I suspect not great, as they only gave us one "good" option - specific brands of blue shop towels.

I should have paid more attention when we played cops and robbers as children.
The Today show demonstrated how to make one with rubber bands. Anything has to be easier than the one I spent two h ours making today.

About halfway down Hasn't been FDA tested though. So it appears to be better than just cotton, though hard to say exactly since 0.3 the machine tests down to isn't a small as it should be tested at. I would definitely have liked to hear about the other material they tested and its results.

Ventured out today for an oil change and I wore a mask. The tech handed me two sanitizing wipes and asked me to clean off the steering wheel, gear shift and my key fob. When I picked up the car, the tech was wearing a mask & gloves and sanitized my CC & key fob before handing them back. Local biz that's desperate for customers. If dealership tries to shut down my warranty b/c I didn't use them for periodic service, they will need to prove better practices than my local guy.

I did see a demo for a mask using a pillow case.

I have some light weight paper masks that I try to keep on hand in case we catch the flu and need to go to the doctor. H. saw how to tie a tee shirt for a mask. A neighbor is sewing masks for 6 neighbors. I haven't gotten them yet. Another neighbor used heavier masks to go grocery shopping since their son was adamant about it. Their son works in health care. The neighbor keeps them on hand because she can't stand the smell of cleaning products. They are the ones found in the automotive or paint area. I copied the bandana, no-sew method on my FB page for the grandsons. The women are probably ready with a mask. I like the bandana ones.
During winter, I use a knit headband to put over my lower face. It's easier to deal with than a neck scarf and much more sanitary than dragging the neck scarf on the floor.

Another thing I have learned through this experience. Apparently, people still own bandanas?

Ok , so serious question - how do I wear a mask without my glasses fogging up ? Itβs driving me crazy . Maybe Iβm just a heavy breather . π
