ODS is sheltering in place with his DGF and her family. He eats enough for a small country. I’ve been sending his favorite snacks type food (bagels, granola, jerky, dried fruits, chocolate) but as the quarantine continues I want to send real food. Perdue sells chicken and Niman Ranch products online so a big order is on its way (in a couple of weeks since the demand is so high). So I thought I’d try some red meat, too. Are Omaha Steaks products all that fabulous? They’re ridiculously pricey, but since grocery store inventory is so hit or miss, I thought the price might be worth a sure thing delivery, kwim?
Any other beef and/or bison online retailers you can recommend?

I just read this article on Boston.com, it's got a bunch of links in it. apparently distributors that aren't currently supplying restaurants at the volume they are used to - they are now shipping straight to the public. it doesn't necessarily help your ODS specifically b/c it's MA stuff, but maybe it can help you here or other posters. I'm particularly interested in the produce distributors.... maybe there's something similar available where he is, though? link

Omaha steaks are good, but personally I don't think any steaks are good enough to be priced as what they have given you've still gotta cook them yourself. IMO most people aren't good enough at cooking/preparing them to make them worthwhile.

I think drama's spouse may have worked for Omaha steaks at some point in a quality control type position.
ETA - I came away from her posts with a resolve to NOT order from them.

He is a fabulous cook, has to be given his life-threatening food allergy. Did I tell you about the time last summer he went to the farmer’s market and spontaneously bought and made an amazing roasted duck?

I remember something about that...do we not buy from them because of issues with the steaks themselves or with how they treat their employees?

I like Omaha Steaks better than Kansas City Steaks, but I typically order the private reserve ones. I am interested in knowing what Drama's husband may have to say about them.
Otherwise I like the grass fed steaks you can get from the Fresh Market if you have one of those grocery stores around. There are tons of butcher box types stores around. Or you can check out local farms. I know several nearby me offer meat boxes.

We've ordered food from them at Christmas. For the price, you can probably do better at your local butcher shop. Adequate meat, but not great. On the other hand, if your local grocer keeps getting cleaned out, they'd be better than nothing. JMHO.

Save your money. They aren't my favoritest things in the world. Are there any local butcher shops where he is that you could order from?

ODS is 8 hours away, so assessing inventory at grocery stores near him is difficult. Looking for high-quality stuff to ship. I cannot expect DGF’s family to feed him alone. 😆

We order their steaks and burgers regularly. Sirloin supremes are our fav steak. We like lean cuts and like their consistent sizes. Individual packaging means we cook only what we need that night. Using their rewards program and email specials, pricing is better than the local stores. Their potato sides and apple tartlets are good and easy to prepare. Tried pork, hot dogs and chicken before...didnt care for them. If you get an email deal, give their steaks and burgers a try.

I've ordered Omaha Steaks for several years. Usually when they have sales. They work well for my 20-something sons since the meat is individually packaged. No waste and they are normally really good and simple to prepare.
I've been happy with them for years until this past December. I ordered $300 worth of meat, paying extra for express delivery. It sat on the truck somewhere in Ohio for over a week. When it finally arrived all of it had thawed. I wasn't about to eat it much less give it to anyone, so I had to throw it all out and ended up giving Kroger gift cards instead.
It took a while to get my money back. Then they had the nerve to send a Christmas card blaming FedEx.
With all of the logistics issues going on right now, I doubt they will get it to you in a timely manner. I placed my order December 5th and it didn't arrive until 2 weeks later in poor condition.

I find them for the price tag to be "meh". At this point the owners are riding on their name and quality is starting to go down. You can do better finding a local source.
Bison is trickier to find. There is Best Bison here in Omaha but I have not tried them personally, they are $$$$ which is why I haven't bothered. I am sure there are other online sources to look at from states like Colorado or South Dakota.
Personally I'd try that Butcher Box service I keep seeing advertised online. They do a whole variety of meats and cuts, including wild game from time to time.

I find them to be disgusting.
Can you just send your ODS some cash to shop at his local store?

Have you looked at Walden Local Meat? No idea about them really except the flyers/mailers I keep getting.

Can you google a butcher in his area, call in an order, and have him pick it up?

I was going to suggest ButcherBox... but looks like they are wait listing. Are Hello Fresh et al still functioning? Wait... is he in PA? My Meat CSA ships now... www.northmountainpastures.com/ They are not cheap, and don't do chicken anymore... but the meat is good and the farm is well run/ sustainable.

About 25 years ago, they used to be good. Now, not so much so.
If I want to send good steaks to someone, I’d send them Allen Brothers. My dad sent us some for Christmas a several years ago, and they were incredible, but $$$$.
I’ve gotten better steaks at Costco than Omaha steaks.

Aww man knew I should have signed up a few weeks ago before this started. That's okay we'll keep supporting our local butcher for as long as they are allowed to remain open.

I find them to be disgusting. Can you just send your ODS some cash to shop at his local store? He has cash on hand, cash in the bank, and credit cards with generous limits. I don’t think they are going out. I’m trying to be pro-active before he gets irreparably HANGRY (which he does).

Omaha steaks had a special about a week ago. $31.99 for 4 steaks, 4 burgers, 4 chicken breasts, 4 hot dogs and 4 twice baked potatos. I ordered 2- one for home and one for my daughter in college. They arrived Saturday. My daughter made a burger and twice baked potato yesterday and said they were yummy

My daughter made the Omaha chicken breasts tonight and said they were super yummy! They are making the steaks tomorrow. So far she is super happy and eating like a college Queen! And I thought the pricing was reasonable for what I purchased.

Found this place. They deliver to all 48 states AND deliver eggs!!! (ODS said they are having trouble finding eggs where they are.). This place is at least as pricey as Omaha steaks, but pasture-raised and soy-free feeds (ODS is anaphylactic to soy and in these medically catastrophic times I am choosing ultimate allergen-free). Much of the beef is sold out, but he’ll get eggs, burgers, ground beef, and some sirloin steaks next week. yourfamilyfarmer.com/

We have an exotic meat company next town over, Fossil Farms. If you want ostrich, buffalo, kangaroo etc that’s the place
Animals aren’t raised there, it’s not like the Chinese ‘wet markets’ where you can buy and butcher snakes, bats etc
