Sometimes things look strange if you have no experience DH doesn’t cook often but when he does it’s sometimes hilarious He put a whole chicken in a roasting pan in oven along with carrots onions and potatoes. Nice ordinary meal right, I was Sick and he made dinner. Well he looked very nervous when I started to eat some chicken. He thought maybe it was a mutant chicken cause it didn’t look like the chicken his mom or I roasted
He had put it in the roasting pan with the back up Instead . Mutant!?!? No upside down

I think the doctors could have still brought it back with CPR.

Can't you increase baking temp to decrease cooking time?

I fertilized my little lemon tree and my tomatoes today. I was overdue on the lemon tree. Oops! I think I should’ve gotten a liquid fertilizer. I don’t know how I’m supposed to keep the fertilizer away from the stem when everything starts moving around when I water them. And it was a pain in the ass trying to get the fertilizer on the soil, between the cages and the plants themselves. If I grow tomatoes again, I’m going to buy liquid or water soluble fertilizer. Because I had a hard time keeping the fertilizer from the stems, I am concerned about fertilizer burn. So I Googled some stuff, and came across some opinions that the fertilizer I have, made by Dr. Earth, doesn’t really work well for containers. I’m not going to switch to something else at this point, just in case the Dr. Earth IS doing something. Its slow release, and I don’t want to end up using too much fertilizer. But I’m curious, what do you all use to fertilize tomato plants?

Fox Farm or Neptune's Harvest work well for me with containers.

After complaining I had lots of foliage and no tomatoes, I checked my six bushes yesterday and found at least 16 ranging from tine to ping pong ball size. Whoo hoo!!!!
Also the zucchini and squash are both making flowers. I can’t remember which is which and the leaves and plants are fairly similar but half will make small lemon drop squash and the other half will make zucchini so it’s like a game, to see which is which.

Yayyyyy! for your tomatoes. I never thought my idea of fun would include tomato plant treasure hunts, yet here I am. LOL! Mister’s Mom is growing zucchini and squash, one each in 5 gallon buckets. And a cucumber plant in a 5 gallon bucket. She has 4 buckets in the wood box Mister got her to make a raised garden in. The 4th plant is a tomato. To my untrained eye, both the squashes AND the cucumber all looked alike. I understand now though, what kind of climber cucumber is, it had reached over to it’s next door neighbor (a squash) and started wrapping itself around that cage.😯 She didn’t know which was which either lol. Fortunately, she’d put the little spikes that tell you what it is in each one.

Fortunately, she’d put the little spikes that tell you what it is in each one. Yeah my mother in law gave me some nice metal spikes, reusable ones, that you can write the name of the plants on. By the time I remembered I had those, I’d forgotten which side of the raised bed I’d planted them on. I also had cucumber seeds I was going to plant and forgot - but I can plant them later. If you plant them too early down here they get killed by squash beetles that infect them with a bacteria that destroy the vines. Or I can wait until next year. They do like to climb and I already have some cantelope vines spreading out. Don’t want to be overwhelmed with all the vines. I always worry they might harbor snakes and things.

My tiny lemon turned yellow and fell off the tree. The tree has lots of new leaves, that just started growing a few days ago, but no more flower buds yet. It looks so much better than it did when I first brought it back outdoors, when it had just a few yellow leaves hanging on for dear life. Now it has a lot of green, healthy looking leaves. I’ve read that they don’t produce lemons until they are at least a couple years old, or something like that. I bought it near the end of last summer, but idk how I’m supposed to know how old it was when I bought it. As long as it’s thriving, like it appears to be doing, I’m okay with waiting for lemons. Mister watered my tomato plants for me this morning. The mistreated plant was looking crazy again when I got home from work, but my little handy dandy moisture meter said the soil was still moist, so I left it alone. Thank goodness I bought that thing, because otherwise, I would have tried to “help” it by watering it again. See, I’m learning! I’m up to at least 50 tomatoes now. It’s a good thing I asked y’all how to freeze them, because we really don’t use fresh tomatoes all that much. I go months without using fresh tomatoes. I only tried them as my first vegetable because they are supposed to be fairly easy to grow. Which reminds me of a question I have. I’ve read that storing tomatoes in a refrigerator reduces their flavor. I’ve always kept fresh tomatoes in the refrigerator, because I never knew that. But if putting them in the refrigerator reduces the quality and flavor, what happens to the flavor when you freeze them? The mistreated plant is officially the shortest one now, but only by an inch or 2. But it’s also the one with the most tomatoes on it, about 25 now. If all of the tomatoes growing on it turn out okay, I guess that will mean maybe I didn’t treat it too badly after all?

I've been out watering like crazy. Forecast for the next few days is 105, 107, 104, 102, 102, then 98. I tried some Floridade tomatoes this year and I've been happy that they are still setting fruit in the heat. I haven't had a ripe one yet so not sure how they will taste. My okra never did germinate.

After I read this, I had Newbie escort me across the yard to get a close look at them, so she could protect me from the yard monsters along the way lol. She even posed for a picture to say “Hi”. Those are the ones that didn’t get dug up in one area, I have 3 more not far from those. The top part on all of them looks different from the rest of the plants. Is that what they look like when they are about to bloom? As you can see, they aren’t very tall yet.

The bulbs were a bit 'traumatized' being fig up and replanted elsewhere. This will be a slow year for them. Next year, watchout!

What I do love is fresh tomatoes, still warm from the sun, a touch of olive oil and salt, fresh basil from my garden, and Bocconcini (a ball of mozarella, made from cow and water buffalo milk, and packaged in liquid.) Bliss!

She’s just not a good guard dog as far as humans go, I don’t think. But critters….. she’s on it! LOL! Now that I know the lillies are about to bloom, I will be watching for it. And I will report back when they do! I planted them where they are, as part of my “privacy” plan for when we’re on our deck. I intentionally planted them right where our back yard starts to slope down on that side. Even if we had an 8ft privacy fence bordering our property on that side, it would be low enough that people on the street wayyyy over “there” could still see us on our deck. Mister doesn’t like having to cut around the lillies, but my long term plan includes stuff that means they aren’t just there, surrounded by grass that needs to be cut. I do a lot of things he thinks is strange, but he should know by now that there’s ALWAYS a method behind my madness,

I like them on salads, but they have to be cut in very small pieces, or I push them to the side and don’t eat them. My Mom will eat raw tomatoes by themselves, sprinkled with salt. That’s a hard no for me lol. Small bites of tomato, all fixed up, and served with some cheese or something, maybe. I’ve never had it, but I would probably try it.

I have about 8 radishes and one Holy Basil plant popping up already in my backyard box.
Excited to see if the lemon balm and camomile pop up.
We're going to get the dirt to fill up the middle and top row so I can plant the rest of my seeds.
Hoping to find a not dead cucumber plant to add to the box. Gwen would like having a ready supply of those.

I met a guy in the park today, walking a massive male pittie. I asked if I could pet him, and he said 'NO!!! He's really mean!' At that point the dog lunged at me with murder in his eyes. Barking and growling. Probably a god guard dog, what with wanting to eat everybody and all, but it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. A dog like that should be wearing a muzzle.

I've never had a problem with tomatoes losing flavor in the refrigerator or the freezer.

Tennesseer , one of my other 2 tuberose bulbs is finally sprouting. I’d given up on those 2 lol. How are yours doing now? This is how much the first one that sprouted has grown. And uhhhhh……. I still haven’t cleaned and tended to my deck and furniture and stuff, so let’s just ignore all the junk and ugliness, please and thank you. The plant in front of the bricks is my little lemon tree. If I didn’t post a picture when it was all pitiful looking with just a few yellow leaves, just take my word for it that it looks SO much better now.
