I had been working from home for 2 years.
When the company shut down the offices, they let us take our monitors, monitor arms and chairs, so I have a comfy chair and dual monitors that are at eye level. That makes a huge difference. A good headset makes all the difference in the world when you're on conference calls. I have a wireless one ear headset which works when talking to folks in the US, but I have to switch to the two ear wired headset when talking to offshore teams.
I've worked on a laptop in the past and it was miserable. Having a real keyboard and mouse keep my hands from hurting. I really need a good chair and an external monitor at eye level or my back will kill me. Now that I have a proper setup at home, working from home is paradise.
If you can afford it, I definitely recommend getting a real keyboard and mouse and an external monitor. It makes all the difference in the world. And if you're on a lot of calls, a good headset is also helpful. Finding a good office chair is probably a no-go at this point. They need to be tried on. But not having to hunch over a laptop and type on a laptop keyboard is going to make all the difference in the world.
