So I've been watching the COVID coverage on CNN, but have also been flipping over to Fox News to see how the other side sees things.
Aside from the stances and arguments which I won't get into, do any of you notice the dichotomy in the presentation method of the various anchors / reporters on each network?
On CNN, IMHO Anderson Cooper presents himself as very professional. Dr. Sanjay Gupta does the same. Chris Cuomo is more aggressive and confrontational, but seems to keep his arguments based on facts. Don Lemon can be annoying with his extraordinarily long pauses for effect but I find his presentation generally agreeable.
Then there's the Fox crowd:
Tucker Carlson is snide and sniveling, with his whiny tone and overall nastiness. Laura Ingraham is equally snide with her sarcastic quips and eye rolling. Lou Dobbs tries to come across as down to earth and friendly like your uncle, until he interjects some baseless garbage that makes one go WTF?...like your uncle. Sean Hannity is the absolute WORST of them all, with his nasty, angry diatribes propagating paranoia, fear and hatefulness.
EDIT: Oh, and I forgot about Trish Regan (probably due to her being "on hiatus" after her infamous video claiming COVID is a democratic hoax right before Fox flipped their stance. Ha ha!). Anyways, she's an absolute c-word to the highest order...staring down the camera and speaking all forceful like she's trying to intimidate her audience into accepting her viewpoints, or else!
A random individual reading the above analysis would likely conclude that my views are based entirely on my current political leanings, and another with the opposite leanings would conclude the exact opposite, but I sill have to wonder...
Do any of you also notice how Fox seems to sink to a whole new level with their presentation tactics, and wonder why those tactics are necessary to keep the attention of their target audience? Couldn't they present their spin without the hateful nastiness and fear-mongering, or is it key to their entire platform? Thoughts?

Fox seems to mirror trump's attitude. Or maybe it's trump's attitude mirrors Fox's. They are definitely mean and angry and always seem to be ready to pounce. I object to their yes-man obsequiousness to trump and to their assumption that anything not approved by him is bad.
CNN tries to keep it professional and only occasionally gets frustrated enough to cut somebody off or to tell them off.
Lou Dobbs. WTH? I remember when his turn at CNN was poles apart from where he is now. I don't know if he really means it or if it's merely a case of being so well paid that money talks.

I definitely lean towards the left, so I will admit that I am biased. But I try to listen to fox news on the radio a lot, just to try to get the other perspective also. Most of the radio hosts are exactly like you describe above. They are always insulting Democrats as a group in whole, and they are very hypocritical at times. It's obnoxious.... There has only been one, Tom Sullivan, who is definitely a Republican, that tries to see it from both sides. And he isn't always kissing ass with Trump. There are many instances where I don't agree with him, but he's not insulting towards others if they don't agree with him, like many of the other hosts do. And he goes with facts and numbers, which I like!

I like to get my news in written form. I think it is harder to play on emotion (not impossible but harder) when you can control the pace and stop to process at any point. I use the CNN "breaking news" a lot but also love to get the contrasting picture from Fox as well. I find it most interesting to switch directly from one to the other to see the banner story at the top of each page. Sometimes the same, some times not.

As an Independent...I don't necessarily disagree with a good chunk of your take on Fox News...but I find at least 2 of the names you noted for CNN to be just as whiny/snide/annoying. So I don't doubt that it likely has to do with political leanings.

Years ago, when I first saw a Fox news broadcast - I truly thought it was a parody of news broadcasts or that it was intended as comedy. The exaggerated over the top way the news was delivered is what made me think that. I thought Fox news was entertainment, the same way the celebrity "news" was presented.
I have a question, how does one get the other sides perspective on actual news when it's presented the way Fox News does it?

I don't watch either CNN or FOX news.
We watch ABC local news in the morning .......... And ABC local news in the evening
During the day it's either Hallmark or History
It's called 'overload' for us, and we tune it out.

I like cheesy and newsy on Pluto, they have some good programs.
I had no idea that until prior to the 20's congressmen were selected by the states and not by the direct vote. They said it tied up selection for months and left vacancies for months and they were party hacks, how did we survive?

I thought the House was elected by popular vote...Senate by State legislature till they too became a office elected by popular vote

Now you may be right, I didn't realize the senate was not by popular vote all along, so guess I didn't learn correctly at all

Aren't there two different Faux News channels? One with newsy news, and one with newsy opinions? I thought one was more newsy than the other? I really don't know. I don't watch Fox, CNN or MSNBC (or Newsmax, or any other of that "ilk") I do listen to talk radio for a few minutes here and there just to be amazed and amused.
People like to rip on the media, but the media has always been a reflection of the people and of what sells. Some has always been more "serious" than others, at least back to before the birth of our republic.
The best advice, IMO, is still the admonition we got in college. Get your information from several sources, check it, and keep an open mind and a wary eye. Use reputable sources for both primary and secondary accounts, and do not forget the former when reading the latter.
I would add that print is generally far and away better than video.

I never watch Fox...understand they have some legitimate news offerings but don't have the time to know the differences...
Do watch CNN but really enjoy public radio and TV news

I have found BBC World News and CNN International to be the best stations for providing actual news without a lot of partisan opinion.

Tucker, Laura and Hannity are opinion people, and they say so often. Fox does have other presenters who just tell the news and do interviews without all the commentary.
And yes, Judge Jeanine just mean.

No. I find it pretty easy to tell. Their newsy-news follows a more traditional format. Their opinion people just sit there and rant. I find CNN a little more deceptive, but they are definitely using the same playbook.
