trump said that he was "distracted" from the coronavirus because of impeachment. What? He wasn't too distracted to hold more rallies, and it didn't keep him from golfing. And pence is blaming (1) China for not alerting the world earlier and (2) the CDC. Y'all remember the CDC, the same CDC that trump gutted of employees and funds. Trump has also said that if we "only" have 100,000 deaths he'll have done a good job? What's he going to call it if (when) there are more than that? Since the elderly are most at risk my guess is "and I saved SS from imminent insolvency". After which he will promptly proceed to cut all the now superfluous funds from SS and give that money to his "real friends"

Poor ol' W. He wasn't, to me, presidential material either but he had some endearing qualities. He's the kind of guy you can see yourself enjoying a beer with. Trump doesn't have that charm as I see it. Michelle Obama seems to enjoy being with W. She knows his good qualities. I think he is basically a good guy. i never knew how bad it could really get before Trump. so, i am cutting W a lot of slack these days.

no. I think Reagan, Clinton, Obama and GWB were above average presidents.
I thought that W was the worst president since Harding.
before this crisis i have said that i think this president was competing with Harding for the lower rungs.
now, i think he has the lowest rung fairly well secured. he will have to improve to beat the likes of Harrison.
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question (in my defense I have not lived here for the majority of my life) but who is GWB? I thought that was the "Shrub*" but then you use W separately?
*I quoted the late Molly Ivins here. may she rest in peace
you're right. i missed the H in GHWB. i TRIED to type that, but missed it.

likewise. if you're a book reader, you should take a look at the memoir written by his daughters. I pre-ordered that and Joe Biden's memoir for Beau whenever they came out. I have a much different opinion of W as a person than I did before reading it. consider also, I'm a couple years older than the twins, and I've seen more than college and the immediately after.

Not interested in any lies from the Trump family though.

I saw a headline the other day that said a majority of us do not approve of Trump's handling of the Coronavirus. However, I did not read the article, so I am not sure if that was based on something like new polling, or just some opinion guy with some reasoning as to why the polls last week do not represent the truth.
Anyone see any new polls on this?

I tuned in when today's briefing was already underway. I came in, in the middle of a list of the various sports league commissioners and then a comment about how (paraphrasing) "we can't live like this. sports weren't meant to be like this" .....is this fucking idiot going to decree that contact sports come back into play? I can't. he refuses to acknowledge science. I have a feeling I need to turn this off, before I damage the laptop I have it streaming on.

This made me LOL today -
*A RECAP OF THE LAST THREE WEEKS*
AMERICA: Oh my god! Coronavirus! What should we do?
CALIFORNIA: Shut down your state.
AMERICA: Wait... what? Why?
CALIFORNIA: Because 40 million people live here and we did it early, and it’s working.
OHIO: Whoa... whoa... let’s not be hasty now. The president said that this whole coronavirus thing is a democratic hoax.
CALIFORNIA: He also said that windmills cause cancer. Shut down your state.
TEXAS: But the president said that we only have 15 cases and soon it'll be zero.
CALIFORNIA: The president can’t count to fifteen. Nor even spell it. Shut down your state.
NEW JERSEY: Us too?
CALIFORNIA: Yes, you guys too. Just like when Christie shut down the bridge, but it’s your whole state.
FLORIDA: But what about all these kids here on spring break?? They spend a lot of money here!
CALIFORNIA: Those kids invented the tide pod challenge. Shut down your state.
LOUISIANA: But wait let’s have Mardi Gras first. It entertains people.
CALIFORNIA: It also kills them. Shut it down.
GEORGIA: Ok well how about we keep the state open for all of our mega churches? Maybe we can all pray really hard until the coronavirus just goes away!
CALIFORNIA: Which is working like a charm for mass shootings. Jesus told us to tell you to shut down your state.
OKLAHOMA: What about the tigers?
CALIFORNIA: What about a dentist. Shut it down.
WYOMING: Hold up, maybe we should go county by county like the president said.
CALIFORNIA: Stop acting like there are counties in Wyoming. There are no counties in Wyoming. Wyoming is a county. Shut it down.
PENNSYLVANIA: But big coal.
CALIFORNIA: But big death. Shut it.
WEST VIRGINIA: But we were the last state to get coronavirus!
CALIFORNIA: And don’t make us explain to you why that was. Shut it down.
NORTH CAROLINA: But the republican national convention is coming here!
CALIFORNIA: SHU... ok fine, do what you want.

Hello everyone. I have been gone since the first week of January, and due to the pandemic, I am now back home and catching up on the board. I see little has changed since I left. Trump this! Trump that! He is killing people! He is an idiot! He hates the common person! He is a racist! I think there might be two posters who do not attack him daily here, and I might have that number inflated by one. It is time for some soul searching by some members. Gallup says 60% of Americans agree he is dong a good job. www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-24/trump-s-handling-of-coronavirus-approved-by-60-in-gallup-poll-k86e29otIs America wrong, or is it the members of this board? No surprise. Latest poll now shows him under 50% on his handling of the crisis too. More proof that the more he talks, the more he screws up.

“We inherited a broken test” for COVID-19.Trump blames past administrations for a flawed COVID-19 test. The test couldn’t have existed earlier. President Donald Trump deflected blame for the slow start of testing for the new coronavirus in the United States. "We inherited a broken test," he said on Fox News’ "Fox and Friends" March 30. Trump said much the same the day before during a Rose Garden press conference. "We took over a dead, barren system," Trump said. "That didn’t work, because when CDC first looked at their test, the biggest problem they had is, the test didn’t work. That wasn’t from us. That’s been there a long time. Now we have the best tests in the world." Trump’s assertion that the test "wasn’t from us," gets things backwards. There could be no test for the virus that causes COVID-19 until the virus emerged. Trump’s claim that his administration inherited a broken test "doesn’t make sense," said infectious disease researcher Christopher Mores at George Washington University’s School of Public Health. Our rulingTrump said that his administration inherited a broken test. That flies in the face of logic. There could be no test until the virus emerged. We rate this claim Pants on Fire. Trump blames past administrations for a flawed COVID-19 test. The test couldn’t have existed earlier

Time will tell regarding the total deaths. The U.S. was beset by denial and dysfunction as the coronavirus ragedBy the time Donald Trump proclaimed himself a wartime president — and the coronavirus the enemy — the United States was already on course to see more of its people die than in the wars of Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq combined. The country has adopted an array of wartime measures never employed collectively in U.S. history — banning incoming travelers from two continents, bringing commerce to a near-halt, enlisting industry to make emergency medical gear, and confining 230 million Americans to their homes in a desperate bid to survive an attack by an unseen adversary. Despite these and other extreme steps, the United States will likely go down as the country that was supposedly best prepared to fight a pandemic but ended up catastrophically overmatched by the novel coronavirus, sustaining heavier casualties than any other nation. It did not have to happen this way. Though not perfectly prepared, the United States had more expertise, resources, plans and epidemiological experience than dozens of countries that ultimately fared far better in fending off the virus. Complete article here: The U.S. was beset by denial and dysfunction as the coronavirus raged

Have to subscribe to read it. I have a subscription. Don't want to violate the CoC's, so here are some snips The perception of Trump’s performance has changed dramatically. “Trump’s approval for his management of the coronavirus is now under-water, 47-52%. Approval is down from 55% in the poll released on March 20, and closer to where it was in the March 13 poll, when it was 43%.” Trump’s approval may well decline even further as he weirdly seeks to avoid taking decisive action. He announces the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that Americans wear masks in public, but declares he will not wear one. He insists the national stockpile is a backup, effectively demanding states fight among themselves for scarce supplies and thereby bid up the price. He shamelessly tries to blame the Obama administration for the testing debacle, though he has been president for over three years; he dissolved the National Security Council position on pandemics; and he disregarded his own experts’ warnings, thereby losing weeks to prepare for the virus’s onslaught.

Of course he won't wear one! Wearing a mask protects OTHER people, and not yourself. Trump doesn't give a flying fuck about other people.

In the news "briefing" yesterday (or maybe it was Fri) he said that he had had a meeting with a bunch of CEOs. Prior to the meeting, each of the CEO's received one of the fancy new tests (involves a finger prick and results in 15 minutes). I'll bet anyone coming into contact with him gets one of those new tests.

No surprise, but I don't know whether to laugh, rage at the machine, or cry. Well as trump said about the drug, "‘What do you have to lose?’" (trump also said that to our African American citizens and they aren't doing so well under trump (the unemployment rate was already falling well under Obama (as were all the races) before trump was elected.) ‘What do you have to lose?’: Inside Trump’s embrace of a risky drug against coronavirus
