I think governors will have a say. Can’t see how MLB plans to open if Cuomo doesn’t open up for business

I'm really hoping that he will decide NOT to push this as things are just going to get worse.

Ahhh, but he can start holding Trump rallies again. The only thing that should be allowed is Trump rallies. Culling the idiots.

Are we prepared to lose 3 to 7 million Americans to this?
A 3% death rate now seems to be a minimum (10% now in Italy), 330 million in the US, 40-70% of the American population infected. 3.9 to 6.9 million deaths if we fail to continue to implement strict social distancing.
He will literally kill millions of Americans

But, but, he's saved THOUSANDS of lives by closing the borders to China.

well, in a sense he is right.
it is probably already too late to contain this thing, so his only alternative is to expose millions to the virus at this point.
(actually, that is not true, but I am trying, painful though it may be, to think like Trump for a second)

.... He will literally kill millions of Americans He can help set up the situation in which millions might die. But how much can he really do? Back to the OP - can he force MLB to open their season? I know if they do open and players make the individual choice to show up to play, people will attend but that would be their choice. He can't force them to show up. etc with other activities.

I think we can rely on the blue states to do the right thing. this means that the coastal regions may fare fairly well. the real problem will be a place like Chicago, which gets a lot of red state road traffic, and purple states like Colorado.
I forsee a time when the borders of the blue states will be closed to states that have no emergency orders in place. this would be most germane in Washington, which shares a border with "go ahead and go to a bar" Idaho.
the plague will be able to run it's course in the red states until they start getting serious about it. and that will impact everyone, until something is done to fence them off from the rest of us.
we know where this is going, folks. well, all but the president and his cult, it would seem.

There hasn't been enough time for people to change habits. They are going to stop social distancing and going to stop washing hands as thoroughly.

At least some of the smaller communities are doing the right thing, even if our governor needs to get some starch in his spine. Our beaches are closed. Unfortunately, there are still beaches open about 40 miles away from here. I wish our governor would just shut it all down for awhile.

So your town is losing income (hotel, restaurants, shops) and summer is coming. There is going to be significant pressure to open those beaches. Actually, probably tons of pressure already, but once the POTUS says it is ok, why would the beaches stay closed?

So will we see the development of the Red State League and the Blue State League to replace the American and National Leagues?

Actually, probably tons of pressure already, but once the POTUS says it is ok, why would the beaches stay closed? You are correct. Tourism is a huge part of our income here, but the locals are trying to support local business as best we can. Most of the stores have shut down, but some of the smaller ones allow you to call the store's telephone number, and if there's something you'd like to buy, they'll package it up, and you can either walk up to the door at a specific time, or have it delivered to your house. Also, the restaurants are strictly walk up, or call in to place your order. There is no sitting inside the buildings, and the outdoor café seating is closed now too. It's going to be a rough year for tourist towns, but if your customers die off, that's no good either. And, this area caters to retired folks, so we definitely don't want to lose them.

From the same article In a separate Fox News interview later Tuesday, the President provided a little more reasoning behind his timeline. "So, I think Easter Sunday, and you'll have packed churches all over our country. I think it would be a beautiful time. And it's just about the timeline that I think is right," he said.

(actually, that is not true, but I am trying, painful though it may be, to think like Trump for a second) I know you know this, but doing nothing to limit the scope of this will overwhelm the healthcare system. But old people and healthcare professionals are expendable. It’s all about money.

Melania Trump Cancels the White House Easter Egg Roll Due to Coronavirus ConcernsThe First Lady released an official statement regarding the cancellation on Monday.
"The health and safety of all Americans must be the first priority, especially right now," she said. "I deeply regret this cancellation, but we need to make difficult decisions in the short-term to ensure a healthy country for the long-term." Whoops.

I live in a red state, but the big city in this little corner of the state, is blue. You can drive from almost anywhere in the city, and within 30 or 40 minutes, going south you’ll be in another state, or going west, be in yet another state. Those 2 states are red also. We don’t want to suffer just because we’re in the middle of Trump country.

Trump backed down a bit in the meeting going on now. He is talking now about sections of the country and even it may not be possible.

Trump backed down a bit in the meeting going on now. He is talking now about sections of the country and even it may not be possible. I heard yesterday that Trump may be 'signaling the market.' Whatever that means. Maybe he backed off today because the Dow jumped 11% today - maybe he thinks they got the secret message.

THE. ONION (SATIRE)Trump Urges Loosening CDC Restrictions To Let Coronavirus Get To WorkWASHINGTON—Calling for an end to precautions such as social distancing and shelter-in-place mandates, President Donald Trump urged the loosening of CDC restrictions Tuesday to let Covid-19 get to work. “The economy is hurting—we must send the coronavirus back into our office buildings, schools, and factories,” said Trump, explaining that the nation cannot risk the possibility of the number of new cases and deaths crashing. “We need those numbers up! This is America, and work is important here. Without work, the virus has no purpose. Right now, there are millions of virus particles just sitting around and doing nothing. The coronavirus wants to work, so we’re going to put it back to work as soon as possible.” Complete article here: Trump Urges Loosening CDC Restrictions To Let Coronavirus Get To Work
