They have been saying on real news for weeks that we are only 2-3 weeks behind Italy and it will be way worse here. That's why the government is finally bringing in the military floating hospitals and building mash units as fast as they can in NY and So. CA. They aren't doing that "just in case". They are doing it so fewer people die and are still advising that people will die due to lack of being able to get care. I couldn't get my normal news channel on YouTube this morning, so I clicked on Fox. I feel sorry for people who only get their "news" (propaganda) from there. They have NO idea what's to come. This is INSIDE the US - not Italy and it's not bullshit if you have been paying attention to exponential spread: "When Jason Christie, chief of pulmonary medicine at Penn Medicine, got projections on how many coronavirus patients might soon be flocking to his Philadelphia hospital, he said he felt physically ill. “My front-line providers — we were speaking about it in the situation report that night, and their voices cracked,” Christie said Wednesday. They saw how quickly the surge would overwhelm the system, forcing doctors to make impossible choices — which patients would get ventilators and beds, and which would die. “They were terrified." Christie said. “And that was the best-case scenario.”" www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/03/19/coronavirus-projections-us/

Yep, the math and science say this should be the beginning of the "bad part".

The hospital ship leaving San Diego for Los Angeles, will be tending to non-virus patients.
Who the NYC ship will be tending to has not been announced (that I am aware if) at this time.

The low number is 1.1 million dead. The high number is 64 million if you believe the simulation numbers that predicted this type of pandemic late last year.
I'm not trying to be "doom and gloom". I actually believe it's criminal that the US government isn't telling people the truth about what's coming and what's really required to prevent it. And, it's not staying home for 2-3 weeks then everything passes. At freaking all.
And, Faux made it sound like everything is just great thanks to Trump and the administration.

They are betting we won't be an Italy. Well, States that matter to them won't become "Italys" I'm also thinking Trump chuckles happily to himself because it's gonna be the Big Blue Cities/States that get hit the hardest. His Red states won't see so much awfulness - because they won't have many deaths attributed to COVID19 - because they don't test and the deaths will all be due to the underlying health issues (not covid19 plus underlying health issues) even when who ever is filling out the death certificate strongly, highly suspects it's COVID19. Doing that kind of stuff isn't anything new.

If the Red States end up with lower numbers, it's probably because they're not tallying the correct numbers here. They'll blame the deaths on something else.
Also, it's a real challenge to get tested down here. Unless, of course you're a first responder. Should those in the line of fire get tested? Absolutely. But, if you even think you might have it, you should be tested. You shouldn't have to wait until you're so sick that you're in the ER.

While I know Cuomo has a reputation for being a douchecannoe, he's at least honestly telling the public what's coming. Not sure people are listening, but he's telling people. Right now in his presser he's talking about the 100,000 new beds being set up in NY and begging for medical professionals to come help for when their own medical professionals are sick and overloaded.

I saw a piece on florida that it is going to be bad. They have the aging population and did not start isolating early enough.
In terms of politics - I think it is going to be the effects on the swing states that matter.

But, if you even think you might have it, you should be tested. You shouldn't have to wait until you're so sick that you're in the ER. In the area I used to live in, they have tested 9 people. NINE. Largest geographical county in CA. They claim 1 was positive, but apparently the official numbers show all nine were positive. So, everyone there is freaking out and the independent news folks are trying to find out what's really going on. They have, I believe, two ventilators in the county and the area is being flooded by tourists and preppers who want to be in the mountains and not at home. Where I live now, ZERO tests have been done. And, thanks to lack of testing, you constantly hear how the virus isn't here and if the tourists would just stay away it won't be. Hello - Bueler - we live on a highway... I was behind a truck driver in line the other day at Rite Aid and the parking lot had multiple RVs from Idaho and Utah...

Was just on video conference about this. Used a simulator to run numbers for our area. In an optimistic scenario where 20% of people get this, spread out over 18 months, we are ok. 40% of people getting it with a surge and we are overwhelmed. We then talked about triaging in that situation. Going to be ugly. But let’s have our feelings hurt because no one gives you credit for donating your salary. Finally heard some things he needed to do get done yesterday, but why wasn’t this anticipated weeks ago. Oh, that’s right, it was a nothing burger

How sad for their families, the members of the medical community, and Italy.

Hopefully they get back safely swamp! Thank you. my parents are in their 80's and my mom has COPD and heart issues. And dementia. My dad has a pacemaker. They will be flying out of Clearwater and direct to home. At least there is minimal travel time. Although having them in Clearwater airport after seeing teh melee on the beach does not make me happy. My brother and husband were going to drive down to get them, but I don't think my mother could deal with the trip home in the car.

While it is never a good time to have a bunch of science deniers in positions of power and making decisions, this seems like an especially bad time.
My newest worry is that to try to ameliorate the financial fallout on a short term basis, they are going to insist on breaking the social distancing protocols too early, which is just going to compound it all. We need people thinking in the long term now more than ever, and I fear we do not have the right people in place to do so. It's going to be a mess.

Parts of the US will be as bad as Italy, but I don't think most will be; I think it will be limited to those densely populated areas like big cities. Just my 2 cents.

Trump Says Coronavirus Cure Cannot ‘Be Worse Than the Problem Itself’President Trump on Sunday night said that the government would reassess the recommended period for keeping businesses shut and millions of workers at home after this week, amid millions of job losses caused by the efforts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. “WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF,” Mr. Trump tweeted in all capital letters shortly before midnight. “AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!” Complete article here: Trump Says Coronavirus Cure Cannot ‘Be Worse Than the Problem Itself’

Trump doesn't care if people die and makes stable genius decisions based on whatever he feels like at the moment. It's a disaster and it's criminal and congress are complacent if they don't stop it.

Those people heading to the hills are bringing cases back to the hills along with them. Yes! And, we don't have the medical or even retail infrastructure to deal with them - at all. It's kind of nice at this point to see Oregon closing all the public lands.

I don't understand people putting the economy before human life. And an aside is that if we don't quarantine and nip this in now - perhaps already too late for the bud - that a lot more people die, be sick, some disabled, and then we still likely have the same economic meltdown - and maybe worse and harder to recoup.

I was watching Fox News while having lunch. They announced that 8 states now has issued Shelter in Place and the latest is Indiana. Not going to be surprised that Arkansas is right behind.

My parents are pretty good at reading that things are about to go to h*** and making arrangements to beat the deadline. They left Florida.

My ISO is just starting to think this isn't a hoax. He said this morning they are acting like this is an epidemic, I told him a pandemic is worse it is all over the world.
We came camping to clam dig, they closed the season, now they closed the RV park, we will leave the 5th wheel at a friend's house so the repair man can fix it Wednesday and go back to ISOs house. Then I am going to my house they are predicting a shelter in place before the end of the week, I will get groceries then shut down for 2-4 weeks. My nephew has a wife with issues and other than groceries staying home, he won't even see his parents.
I don't want to nag but feel ISO needs slapped. I am using words like reckless, he went to visit an elder friend and check his driveway for leaving 5th wheel so I told him if you talk to him stay 6 feet away, no hugging, he said I know. I explained Rand Paul got it and still used the gym and pool and the congress gets to gather to vote and he said so they will all get it. He is starting to understand but slow learner. He is starting to see trump is an idiot so we have hope.
