What this situation looks like to me is "I am having a negative emotion reaction to a situation so I am going to spend money unnecessarily." America! Not true. Thanks for the negativity. You are wrong. It is what the situation looks like to me. Whether it is what is playing out in your psyche in this particular situation is certainly open for debate. I have just seen it (and lived it) enough to know it is a common modern American reaction created by our consumer oriented culture helped by our advertising industry. And I do understand why you perceive it as negativity. None of us like to admit the power that our socialization has over our "free will".

I am not looking for a stimulus check. I am not having negative emotions. I'm trying to support local business and friends.

Every time I go out to search for TP, I check w my 93 yr old neighbor and her 65 yr old daughter who is immune compromised to bring them supplies. You made a judgement of me. And an unfair one! And yes I will support local businesses even if everyone bitches at me!! BTW I have not left my house in almost a week!!!

So, even though I’ve been working full-time, year round, for 4 years for my employer, my state department of unemployment has decided that I am a seasonal worker. They have asked me to submit hard copies 🙄🙄of my pay stubs for the last year and my 2019 W-2. Seems to me they already have all of that information: employers must report employee wages every quarter, unemployment tax is taken from every paycheck and paid to the state on my behalf, my employer has to respond to my unemployment claim, while I haven’t filed my 2019 taxes yet my employer has already submitted to the state their copies of the 2019 W-2s they have issued ...
Oy. Bureaucracy at its finest. Thank God I don’t DESPERATELY NEED the money. God forbid that the state revenue folks communicate with other departments like unemployment. I mean, if I can easily transfer my 1040 from the IRS to FAFSA it seems like I should be able to do the same with my wage info and unemployment. 🙄🙄

DH's last day of work was 3/20. He applied for UC 3/23. Today 4/10 we see a pending deposit ready to hit our checking account. Not too bad considering the huge numbers applying. DH works for a company deemed non-essential. Hopefully it won't be too long before they are back to work, but not too early like some want.

Well I made a phone call and it's not on UE's side. The issue is that I am salary so my hours were never a issue and they didn't transfer correctly from either payroll or whoever to the employment office. It needs to be fixed by our check processor. Both bosses are going to look into it and attempt to get the hours corrected and resubmitted to UE.

I got the news in late February that my job was ending on March 31. I was closing in on an offer, and then they got hit with a lockdown hiring freeze, which the manager has been fighting for the past month. Of the 50+ jobs I applied to, a handful did FOAD letters, a few did interviews before the lockdown, around 40 didn't respond. Now that Trump is talking about opening things up, a lot of the companies I applied to and never heard from are calling me for interviews. We'll see. My severance goes until the end of May.

DH received the first bi-weekly UC payment, and then a day later, the $600 extra for one of those weeks, week 1 was not eligible.

No one in my house has gotten an unemployment check yet. It's been a month for both of us. And I have to pay cobra this month.

DH was cleared post-surgery to return to work on 3/23 the same day his preschool closed. He 'worked from home' setting up teaching videos for two weeks before he was furloughed for two weeks. He typically nets $400/week and qualified for unemployment which was $905/week including the extra 600. His facility received a PPP loan so brought them back to working from home this week.
Yesterday, the CEO told them to expect the facility to reopen May 15. We are in STL county which has shelter in place indefinitely. MO governor is reopening most businesses May 4. Recent news reports show we haven't peaked yet, particularly in STL county.
DH's facility director is putting social distancing plans in place which include masks. But really that isn't a realistic plan for young kids. Our children are school age now, but I wouldn't send them to daycare/preschool right now if they weren't. Only the parents who are working outside of the home with no other options are going to send kids and even then I bet they find alternatives. DH and I had a long talk last night about how it just doesn't make sense for him to return when we don't need his salary and given he is immuno-compromised. We have the luxury of having him use up his 3 weeks of PTO to wait this out longer and then taking an unpaid leave as long as they will let him. And if he ends up getting fired, either they will re-hire him back at some point in the future because he's a great employee or he will find another gig. In the meantime, we will keep our savings rate high to give us options and watch how reopening plays out in other parts of the country.

So my last work day before my furlough is May 1. But Florida has only suspended requirements like searching for a job and other onerous shit Florida requires through May 2. Hopefully that means my claim can go through at least on May 2 if not 1. Otherwise I really don't know if I will qualify if it's not extended. So this all gives me even less faith that I'll see any UE for my furlough which my company's HR insisted they did it this way so we could.
I'll survive either way, but man does Florida really suck ass with their horrible unemployment system. They've still only paid 15% of claims!!!!

Not surprised that (name calling which I'm not supposed to do but won't say his name) is doing that. Though I think he's ignoring the fact that businesses don't have to listen to him. Some of the biggest ones are going to do their own thing (as evidenced by them shutting down WEEKS before the state was) plus another decent amount are going to ignore him anyways as we were staying home.

My employer is considered essential and got a PPP loan so I have been called back starting Sunday.
I work in specialty retail.
We are in our surge and are a hot spot.
I’m scared. I don’t want to die this way and I don’t want to die now. But I’m not naive enough to think there isn’t a line of people who would grab my job in a heartbeat if I quit.

Oregon announced today that they "hope" to start processing the 1099/SE UI claims by the end of next week and payments will be 4-5 weeks after approval.
Many people applied at the beginning of March. They will go 2-3 months or longer with zero income. It's insane.
I'm also starting to wonder if self-employment is the reason many of us haven't received stimulus payments. Many of us in the FB group haven't received the $1200. People who had some W2 income or SSI/SSDI/SS seem to have received it.

Maybe we'll get it with next month's payment?
