I'm not in a huge city. I looked last night and I could have done a pick up on Tuesday, but I don't need anything right now.
I'm going to stick with no substitutions due to my GI issues. I know what I can eat. They don't.

I heard Walmart stopped their drive up. At least here anyway. Once they start back up I may start doing it.

The City of Denver is under stay at home orders as of tomorrow. Liquor stores and recreational dispensaries are not essential. Medical marijuana dispensaries are essential. Problem is there are all kinds of suburbs around Denver so it just moves the $$$ for alcohol and weed there. Strike the booze and weed not being essential. They are essential. Mayor's orders have been revised.

The two banks where I have money have closed their lobbies. They are encouraging online banking or mobile banking. If you have to go to the bank, the transaction is conducted at the ATM only. You will not get inside the bank. I have never used grocery pickup. This will be my go to way of shopping from now on. I did mark no substitutions because I've heard they make unusual substitutions. The City of Denver is under stay at home orders as of tomorrow. Liquor stores and recreational dispensaries are not essential. Medical marijuana dispensaries are essential. Problem is there are all kinds of suburbs around Denver so it just moves the $$$ for alcohol and weed there. I have been reluctant to use grocery pick up. First reason is that apparently all the slots are booked up very far in advance. As of last Friday, the local stores were booked through Wed. Secondly, if something on my list is not available, I can see what the store has that would be an acceptable substitute. However, in my experience if they do substitute a different size or brand. I think in the past I have gotten a bigger container of sour cream than I ordered once, and they substituted a generic dairy product that I normally don’t buy as the expiration date passes before I get a chance to use it up....and it goes bad past that point. First was acceptable, second I was not happy about. I have done grocery pickup for several months because it is just easier with small kids and living 20 minutes from the store. Previously, I have gone online on a Monday morning and did my grocery order for 7pm that night (after kid activities). Last week, I went online on Wednesday and got a slot for Saturday afternoon at 4pm. Everyone is using it now. Also, on the substitutions, you can reject any substitutions that they give you, and it will be removed from your bill. My grocery store (Martin's / Giant) has always gone through exactly what the substitutions were and asked if they were okay. However, they have discontinued substitutions for now because of the overwhelming number of people using the service.

I went to the grocery store tonight, Monday at 8 pm. I figured that would be a nice uncrowded time. First let me say that the store staff was absolutely great. The store wasn't crowded, but the shelves were empty in sections.
It was rather hit or miss. All the paper products, rice, pasta, and beans were gone. Most of the cleaning supplies gone too. They were completely out of flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Milk, eggs, bread, and fresh meat were 2 per limit. They were out of the cheaper eggs, so had to buy a name brand. They were out of a lot of meats, but I was able to get something. Produce section was well stocked and so were most of the packaged cereals and snacks. Hopefully I won't have to do that again, until the milk runs out.

I have always tried to be very conscientious of this, but most of us find that one item in the back of refrigerator that got wasted. Now with what is going on, I am cooking smaller portions so that there are fewer leftovers in the refrigerator. That way we are not eating the same things day after day. DH just got notice that he is getting a 10% pay decrease, starting immediately. So in light of that, we are tightening our belts even more. Cancelled cable yesterday. I'm going to review electric and gas bills today to be sure we are getting the lowest rate. We will be fine, but we did a huge house remodel that started last summer to the tune of $50k on a HELOC. We are kicking ourselves, but we could not have predicted this.

We are at $20K on the HELOC with another $5K still to go. We had talked about doing additional work because we have access to $100K but that's not happening. We were paying it off aggressively but as of right now I'm going to start paying the minimum to cover the interest and hoard our cash.

My HELOC is down to $7000. I could pay most of it off but I want to keep the money for "just in case".
It will be paid in full in June, hopefully, when I receive the money from dad's estate.
I'm not going anywhere so not spending much money.

Just checked the online ordering at my grocery store. First open pick up is Saturday.
Will have to get an order in by Thursday to pick up when I want to go there.
I have them put it in the car so I don't have to go in the store.

I was guilty of incredible food waste before this. I'd make something, eat it for a day or so, and then let it sit in the refrigerator until I tossed it. I'd buy potatoes, let them sprout, and toss almost a whole bag. I'd buy a new loaf of bread and toss what was left of the old one. (Well, in winter, I usually tossed it off the deck for the birds.) <snip> That is one of the lessons I hope I take away from this: waste not, want not. I don't want to become a hoarder like many who survived the Depression did, but I want to become more careful with resources. My grandparents survived the Great Depression and they had 5 kids to feed. They weren't hoarders but they were adamant about not wasting food- practically considered it a sin. They'd tend to encourage each other to "eat up that last little bit" on the serving dish- "can't let it go to waste". To be fair- freezers in those days were tiny so they had fewer options for storing uneaten food, but they were both overweight. I remember once being served milk that had clearly gone sour- I drank it rather than complain although I'm sure they would have thrown it out if I'd said something. I live alone so have to be carful about buying more than I can consume, but with a large freezer it doesn't matter if it takes me months to go through a loaf of bread.

I've got a potato that is sprouting, and I have a big pot with dirt in it. I'm thinking about putting it in there, just in case it all goes wrong, I might have a few potatoes. And if it doesn't I will have either failed or successfully grown potatoes.
Anyone ever grow potatoes. Anything i need to know?

But, they'll need room, underground for the potatoes to form. Not sure what part of the country you live in, but I'm not sure a pot, unless it's very large, will give them room to develop. JMHO.

Cut the potato in pieces with an eye in each piece, then plant them. Keep watered and in the sun until sprouts emerge above ground. THey'll take two or three months to get to eating size. Oh, and what busymom said!

Winning! Went to a grocery store yesterday with DD and found a few boxes of old-fashioned rolled oats for sale. We eat the steel-cut oats but I use the old-fashioned version for baking. I'dbeen looking for 3 weeks before I found these, standing alone on empty shelves where all the hot cereals should have been.

I plant potatoes out in the garden. I've heard of people planting them in barrels but never have. It takes awhile for them to bloom and set. I'm sure they need pollinators too.

We were paying it off aggressively but as of right now I'm going to start paying the minimum to cover the interest and hoard our cash. I've got some CDs coming due in April that are the proceeds of the sale of a rental house (beginning of last year). I did a good chunk of the $$ in 1 year CDs because I didn't want to fritter the money and I wasn't sure if I wanted to paydown/off my other reasonable interest mortgages with it. The January 2020 financial plan was to pay off one mortgage and pay down another substantially in May 2020. But, now I'm thinking I'm gonna sit on the cash awhile longer. The mortgages aren't onerous (and paying one off frees up a whopping $225 a month. oh joy! and paying down the other just cuts 10 years off it. It's a $387 a month mortgage (PI) ). I can always switch back to the "payoff/paydown" plan later in the year if I want. I'm just annoyed because I ran alot of numbers (I hate doing math) and I spent alot of mental time and anxiety choosing to do the payoff/paydown in May. (torn between "be mortgage free it's wonderful" and "never pay down a low interest mortgage") ::sigh::

Interesting about the potatoes. Mine tend to sprout on me, and I've wondered the same thing (more recently about a sprouting garlic, though). Unfortunately, I don't behave much sun in my yard, so I'm afraid I'm SOL.

I have a lone green onion in the veggie drawer and have seen some videos about sprouting these. I think I'm going to try it this week.

Yesterday was in all consideration slow day, including today. I was off today (spent all day sleeping) but was texted the sales. I think people have fully stocked up and now just replacing things as times goes on...
On the CORONA front, 1 associate in my store (second in my district) tested positive for it. Off course HR dispatched their talking heads within hours to the store yesterday and today it seems to talk to associates, minimized the risk and pushed for social distancing and associates practicing personal hygiene and washing their hands.
We will see...

Thanks for the update and view from the other side! I was mocking the TP hoarders, but now I’m seriously worried about whether Amazon will deliver my monthly order-will probably try an early trip to Giant on Thursday. We actually are going through it faster since DS and I are home all day right now. First Target delivery should be arriving tomorrow around 1. I’m curious to see how many things I ordered actually show up...I may be hunting for eggs and potatoes Thurs am as well. Is tipping allowed? Would $20 for a just under $100ish order be about right?
