DOJ Wants to Suspend Certain Constitutional Rights During Coronavirus EmergencyThe Trump Department of Justice has asked Congress to craft legislation allowing chief judges to indefinitely hold people without trial and suspend other constitutionally-protected rights during coronavirus and other emergencies, according to a report by Politico’s Betsy Woodruff Swan. While the asks from the Department of Justice will likely not come to fruition with a Democratically-controlled House of Representatives, they demonstrate how much this White House has a frightening disregard for rights enumerated in the Constitution. The DOJ has requested Congress allow any chief judge of a district court to pause court proceedings “whenever the district court is fully or partially closed by virtue of any natural disaster, civil disobedience, or other emergency situation,” according to draft language obtained by Politico. This would be applicable to “any statutes or rules of procedure otherwise affecting pre-arrest, post-arrest, pre-trial, trial, and post-trial procedures in criminal and juvenile proceedings and all civil processes and proceedings.” They justify this by saying currently judges can pause judicial proceedings in an emergency but that new legislation would allow them to apply it “in a consistent manner.” Complete article here: DOJ Wants to Suspend Certain Constitutional Rights During Coronavirus Emergency

Of course. I've never doubted he'd use a national emergency like this to take more power. It was just a matter of time...
And the idea that some people were worried about Obama taking over is perfectly laughable now.

Then Trump should be arrested for causing more harm to our country re: Covid-19 than anyone else these new statutes might find. Calling it a hoax, that April weather would kill it, his cuts to the CDC, the general he didn’t really care for a month or two while this insidious virus crept into every corner of our country. Homicidal and genocidal inaction from our dear leader.😳

I say NO and HELL NO! I tried to explain to our stupid rabid trump supporters what this means. I don't think they understand this is a cornerstone of our democracy. I cannot even imagine bringing up such an issue.
I said they better thank their god that Nancy Pelosi and the dems are the majority in the House or this would already have been done. What a wolf in sheeps clothing that piece of shit is. They all must be in putins pocket up there. And now they have peoples attention diverted where they can pick off our rights one at a time.
I am beginning to think trump is working under putins direction to destroy us piece by piece. They don't give somebody like him billions of those rubles for nothing.
Or if not he really is the antichrist. Our democracy is hanging on by a thread.
I read tonight, forget testing its to far gone to do any good, we are now in for it. Just test those first responders and hospital workers. We are so damn screwed.

I get so frustrated because people don't seem to understand he's actually killing people and no one will do anything about it. It's freaking insanity.

Aren't local jurisdictions who are pressing charges against people who leave their house for an unapproved destination restricting rights unconstitutionally? I've been curious about that.
Also, I am totally cool letting non-violent defendants go while suspending any investigation timelines. But, if there are a couple of suspected serial killers sitting in the holding pen in downtown Phoenix, I would not want them released.

Where would these innocent-until-proven-guilty people be housed? If Covid-19 is running amok in prison systems, is the US government dooming these individuals?
I don't quote the Bible often, but...
Matthew 25:40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
