Forget stuff like toilet paper.
I am just curious. I bought 2 packages of margarine today so I can make cookies, cake, or candy. It freezes well. Early on, I managed to find powdered milk. I am lactose sensitive so it made more sense than trying to freeze milk.
I can't find dehydrated onions. Zararains makes them. They are really useful for cooking.
What are you stocking up on besides the obvious?

Anything I use every day that I can get at this point. I'm sending my mom with a huge list to the store tomorrow as soon as they open so hopefully I can get 1/4 of the items on it. I told her to take my giant nephew in case there was a mob there.

Onion powder is dehydrated onions that have been pulverized. Might try to see if you can find that instead. I use a lot of it because for $3 you can usually get a giant thing of it. Spice Sage (online company) also has excellent spices for a great price. www.myspicesage.com/onion-chopped-p-185.htmlSince I moved here I have been shopping weekly and as I watched what was going on in China I started building up a small stockpile. I just bought 2 or 3 of whatever I normally would use. This includes chocolate. When I drove to a larger city I bought a few pounds of coffee because it's expensive here. Since DS is coming to live here on Friday, I plan to do another shop tomorrow for the stuff he likes to eat. I'll buy enough for a couple weeks. I'll shop again in a week and do the same. Regardless of the comments about the food supply being stable, I can see where there will be certain things that become hard to find. What? Who knows. After all, who thought TP would be end of the world currency instead of Bitcoin.

Speaking of which. Because this is what we've resorted to. A friend's dad works at a meat packing place and she got me 10 pounds of chicken breasts. She's my new dealer. However, it's a huge bag that's frozen solid. I have it in the fridge now to slowly thaw. I don't think I can refreeze it though. Maybe I can get it to where it's still mostly frozen but I can get it apart and part it out somewhat to put in smaller packages in the freezer? Thoughts? Strategy?

I stocked up on one step skillet meals in case wife and I both become stuck at home level sick and aren't up for preparing anything with more steps required.

Nothing extraordinary here, extra chocolate is probably the only splurge. Although my sister, who lives in Belgium, sent a HUGE box of goodies to us a few weeks ago, including Ritter Sport chocolate which is SO YUMMY! Canned goods, pasta, rice, meat - we keep a lot on hand anyway but we spent about $200 (two weeks worth of regular spending) just the other day at our local grocery store. DH likes to blow his nose with TP so I keep lots of that on hand already - I did make him buy tissues to conserve our TP supply!

Didn't need to stock up on anything as I always keep enough non-perishables on hand for several weeks. Earthquake country makes you do that. All I added was a little meat in the freezer, fresh veggies (but not much as a single person), flour so I can bake if needed, and yoghurt. I forgot to grab another block of cheese - what can I say, I'm Dutch -> we eat cheese and drink gallons of coffee.
oh, and chocolate. Can't shelter in place without chocolate

I don't know what the official guidelines are, but I've unfrozen it enough to fight with it to separate it and then refrozen. The easiest thing is to thaw it, cook it, and refreeze it. Makes future dinners easier. Win, win.

Animal food and kitty litter. I’m set, but gotta make sure the fur faces are taken care of. If worse comes to worse the cats may have to share their stash of canned tuna and the dog her stash of frozen soup bones.

I already posted what all we have, we are stocked with everything including water softener salts, added 4 bags added to the 2 downstairs, so good for awhile. I had hubs pick up a couple of propane tanks, if electric went off for a few days, could can the stuff in the freezers, or at least the meat. I would say hackers could mess with the grid.
Probably a week or two will call in an order to Sam's and go pick it up of fresh items. I'm hoping milk will not be an issue as we use a LOT of it. I imagine by then could be low on detergent, I like the pods and have 3 big containers and d/w pods, 2 containers I think. But I use at least 2 of det and sometimes 2 for the dishwasher a day.
Oh my goodness, the futures market is within a bit of 18000, at 19075, I can't believe it.
About time for bed, going on 2. Night all.

If you can get it apart whenstill mostly frozen, it should be fine. Refreezing meat (as long as it has not been thawed for a long time) will only slightly impact the texture, it will not be dangerous to eat.

I don't have crazy amounts of anything, but a few weeks before, we bought a few extras. Canned and dried beans, brown rice, big containers of plain greek yogurt, macaroni, jars of sauce. I'm now working from home, so of course I'm craving everything I don't have.
The stores here aren't too well stocked. My husband will have to do a grocery run probably this weekend, but I'm not sure what he'll be able to get. My fruit supply is running low.

Went to grocery store yesterday. Shelves were sparse but I was able to get everything we needed. I made sure we have baking supplies so that I can make muffins and cookies. We have plenty of eggs and milk. With the kids home they seem to eat more. I need to tell them that they didn't snack at school between breakfast and lunch and coming home - they don't need to snack at home until after 3:30 when they would normally get home from school. We are picking up beef (50 lbs) and boneless skinless chicken (20 lbs) on Saturday we ordered from a butcher.
I figure all this extra food will hopefully make our grocery budget less in April.

I bought two boxes of wine last weekend, under the theory that would be one less store I would need to go to when things get worse. Now that PA has closed all their liquor stores, I am glad that I have some extra wine if MD decides to follow suit.

With huge ass cuts DH has brought home before I usually let it thaw just enough that I can handle it and then wrap it up to put back in the freezer. We haven't had any problems. Just don't let it all thaw completely. At a 10 lb block you'd have to let it sit for a pretty long time before it gets to the danger zone temperature wise.

I just got back from my trip to South America, which was cut short. I'm good on everything except fresh veggies, since of course I ran the supply down in anticipation of my trip. I'll get to Costco today. I just checked and I have 4 rolls of TP left (plus what's on the rolls in 2 bathrooms I rarely use) so I hope the toilet paper madness stops soon.

Beer and wine are only sold in liquor stores in MD; grocery stores can't carry anything alcoholic.

Apparently, we've stocked up on everything. Some of it was just normal bargain-hunting that we do. We have 6 months worth of laundry detergent, for example. That's my DH's doing. I mean, we needed more ketchup, but he bought a giant double pack because it's more economical that way. No way we'd need that much!
We will still need to go to the store occasionally for milk, bread and fresh veggies, but not for a while. Oh, and wine. We tend to go through that rather quickly.

LOL If there is a run on Diet Pepsi I'm screwed. I think we'll be ok though. I went to Sam's Club last night and it was picked clean. The dairy aisle was empty and about 75% of all the other food. The pop stocks looked good though. I left with two 24 packs, a 10 pound bag of potatoes, bagged salads and bananas.

One of our stores here had the 6 pack of 16 oz pepsi (diet included) 5 for $10.00. Dare I say I stocked up. I get excited when they are $2.50 a six pack. I have my priorities. Next items will be rice, wheat berries .

I haven't been in a store since last Thursday. My neighbors daughter brought me bananas, 1 qt. milk and some sourdough bread. I have enough in the freezer so I'm not worrying about it. I did make some 15 bean soup last week and 12 servings are in the freezer also.
Not going to worry about it. If some are so determined to clean out a grocery store let 'em have it. My car still have a full tank of gas and it's also clean from being washed last week.

The closest warehouse club yesterday had toilet paper and the produce and tortillas had been restocked. Still no cheese or chicken. No bread either or frozen garlic bread.
They had some red meat but the hamburger was gone 4 hours later when my BIL was there.

I'm not really stocking up on food more than I normally do. I already have about 150 pounds of meat in the freezer and lots of potatoes and rice, so we can live off of that fine if we can't get anything else. The animals concern me more. I have a feeling there will be availability to people food for a lot longer than pet. So, I bought 5 tubs of cat litter recently and have more cat food and grain than normal. Not a tremendous amount, but probably 6 weeks worth. Thinking of maybe buying a couple more bags of grain to add another month to that, but really in a worst case scenario they don't need grain and could get by with just hay....which I have over a year's worth.

Do you think we should form a diet pepsi underground network just in case Honestly I'm not stockpiling anything since just me. I have a freezer full of seafood (not meat, poultry eater) so no problem there. Stores here seem to have plenty of fresh veggies so far. Son and I planted bunch of veggies Saturday (it's an annual thing for last 10 plus years not a reaction to ongoing virus scare)
I can see where your animals would be a concern but you seem to have it under control.

Went to the store Tuesday for a couple of non-necessary items. While passing the fresh meat area, everything was gone but for fresh pork items like chops and loins. No beef, chicken, or turkey. But plenty of pork. Found that interesting.
Are people thinking pork has something to do with the virus? Maybe a local myth here? I don't know.
