A play. Three Men on a Horse. They keep ignoring the drunk who keeps picking winners.
Well...they didn't exactly ignore him. He gave them tips but wouldn't bet himself. When he finally bets "for real" he's lost his touch.

Yeah. There was no traffic this morning and work is feeling a bit empty. If we're lucky we'll get to start working from home tomorrow.

My boss was commenting that it feels like one of those Rankin-Bass tv specials "the Year without a St. Patrick's Day". So far...

The couple times I've been out Sat and a couple hours ago, traffic seemed pretty normal. Saturday may have been a bit lighter, and this afternoon a little heavier for mid afternoon Monday. I have to go into work tomorrow, so I'll be able to detect a difference better. A case hit the city I work in. The case I heard about in my city apparently wasn't, so that might make a difference.

We went to the archery range. The first time since Oct. There used to be no one there. Unusual to have one person. Today, 5 people. I had left my archery arrows at home. The toilets were closed. This is a large park with flog, walking paths, outside play ground, running paths.
We are looking for bicycles. I'm on the fence about air flow blowing up from the street while on the bike. I used to ride in the rain and got a path splatter clear up to my face and up my back. That is with fenders. We can walk, read, cruise the internet. Find movies online. We still sit outside with neighbors on the patio. Mostly we are 3 feet apart. Tomorrows plan for St. Patricks Day, I would recommend each family ordering in and feasting on our own patio. Canadians are called home because of insurance and covid 19.

Here in rural Eastern Oregon we are a bit "slow". Right now everyone is out hoarding up the toilet paper.

Still tons of traffic here and tons of people in stores (I met a mom who asked if I could bring her books) probably why the governor has now closed all non essentials for 2 weeks.

I'm old enough to remember when the US was experiencing a polio epidemic before there was a vaccine. I was a child at the time, and I distinctly recall it as the first time I understood that the adults around me could experience fear and actually not know what to do about something. At the time, the mode of transmission was not well understood, certainly not by ordinary people, so to the best of my knowledge, there were no really reliable recommendations for staying safe. I believe for a time swimming pools were closed and people might have been avoiding movie theaters as well. People still contracted the disease.
The difference now is that we have access to better information about the nature of the disease and how it is transmitted that people did during the polio epidemic. We have the benefit of about 70 more years of medical and epidemiological research and experience. We have better advice on how to stay safe, or at least safer. All that information can be overwhelming and scary. It's not nearly as scary as feeling helpless and having no idea how to mitigate risk.
I can't find the link to the comment I read this morning quoting some clever radio or TV personality claiming all the quarantines and social distancing were overkill (because he was apparently irritated at being inconvenienced) since nothing like that was done during the polio epidemic. Had there been access to the necessary information at that time, there most certainly would have been more definitive measures recommended and enforced. There were no such recommendations then because we didn't know what to do. We know better now how to deal with things like this. He might as well have said that people went about their lives unencumbered during the various waves of bubonic plague without having to forego visits to bars and festivals and whatnot. Of course, one-third of Europe died as a result, but everyone else avoided missing out on their fun time.

During the polio epidemic, swimming pools were closed. Mom made us take a nap every afternoon and we were past napping age. She was trying to keep us healthy, but we hated having to take a nap.

I was telling my husband yesterday that if this were like polio, and our children were in danger, I'd be beside myself right now.

Oy. I just read an article on facebook about women home birthing because they did not want to go to a hospital now and somehow even though I've been on board with social distancing for days... that made everything all too real.

You could shoot a cannonball down Mass Ave near the Cambridge line this morning and not hit a single thing. Usually it's wall to wall traffic for hours. I left work at "rush hour" and was home in record time since there was so little traffic.

Went to get gas tonight and downtown was absolutely dead, and this is the last night bars/restaurants are allowed to have dine in patrons in Illinois. Most closed today on their own and will start carry out tomorrow. My brother had a great timed text that "this is how the walking dead started"

There were more people than usual out and about around here yesterday. Grocery stores were busy. There was a ridiculous line at the Chick-fil-a. I don't think people around here even know how to cook for themselves.

I went to work as normal, waiting to hear if we close our offices to the public but continue to go to work or try to work from home as much as possible. The school district and colleges are closed but are working on doing some online courses. State and local government offices are closed to the public, but still being staffed to varying degrees, as are the utility companies.
There was still a ton of traffic and the store parking lots were all full. The only difference was no school busses out and about and packs of teenagers roving about with apparently nothing to do.

I'd say traffic was 60-70% of normal. This is what it should always be like! My normal 45 minute 34 drive took 36 minutes. There are many lights along the way-- I only had to stop at 2 of them. Gas is $1.71 at one of the gas stations along my route. That was the cheapest I've seen. Meijer and Walmart were disturbingly busy for 7 a.m. on a weekday. I'm surprised at how many people are still at the office. I'd say at least 70%.
Still hoping I can get the WFH thing working for me. IT was by early this morning, but I just got talk--i have not received any of the things I was missing to make staying home an option. #1 being, a power cord that fits my computer.

I wish all our could work from home people would freaking work from home. The Cheeto eater is one of them. They were going down the aisles today asking anyone with a laptop if they were set up to WFH. I'm expecting (hoping) they announce soon that they HAVE to. There are 8 people in my row of cubes and all but 2 of us could work from home. It would be so quiet and I wouldn't be near anyone 90% of my day.

I'm having a really hard time seeing family and friends still posting spring break trip pics on fb. This may be worse than pro-Trump posts. Not sure I'll be able to look at these people the same. Beaches, Mexico, Chicago, New York, California, the list goes on.
Still fielding calls and texts about playdates. Finally started responding that I can't hear the word ventilator without wincing since DH was on one for 3 days in Jan. Guess I needed to be blunt for them to get the message.

Daughter was just informed that she needs to stay in this house at least through the weekend and then we will reassess. It could have gone worse. 18 year old extroverts be hard. I almost wish we'd go shelter in place.

It is shocking how people don't seem to realize the magnitude of this. I figure we're about 10 days behind Italy, if you compare the confirmed cases curve. It will be interesting to see when Italy actually peaks.

It will be interesting to see when Italy actually peaks. I just talked to my DS who is 27 and works for Walmart. He asked if this is actually more serious than something like SARS or if it's all just hype? My head about exploded. Somehow, we need to stop making fun of the TP hoarders and educate people en masse about the realities of the situation.

I was talking to a young cashier at the supermarket who I'm friendly with. She said "You're a nurse, right? Do you think all this will blow over in two weeks?" Oh, hell no! Strap yourself in....it's going to be a rough ride!

Oui! Canadian snowbirds are being advised to return home as the COVID-19 pandemic advances in the U.S. — and access to out-of-country medical insurance comes to an end for some travellers. Speaking to reporters from self-isolation Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a plea to all Canadians abroad: come home now or risk being stranded as countries close their borders and limit flights. The Canadian Snowbirds Association says it's advising all of its members to heed the PM's advice and head for home. www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadian-snowbirds-covid-19-insurance-1.5499666

Kids in my neighborhood are playing soccer together in the streets. I counted 15 of them at one point. Normally I would be all for it but right now nope. My kids wanna know why they can't join and why we seem to be the only family isolating. So frustrating.
