So I know most have prepared their best to not get the virus. Im curious for the amount of people who are ready to catch it. For example, Im a first responder and will be working no matter how bad this gets. I have prepared to prevent it, but also had to realistically prepare for if and when I get it. What's your take? Have you been fitted for and assigned an N95 (or above) mask? I'm doing some PRN work for our local free clinic but I have a fitted N95 mask so feel pretty well protected. You might want to check with your administration to see if such masks are available or soon to be available. My wife asked earlier too. Had a meeting today and they've gone over some precautions, I have a mask just aggravating to use it..... oh well lol

No need to identify anyone. How would hipaa be involved? Are you wanting to know who the people are? If yes, that would be a violation-telling others as to who is sick and with what. I don’t know what you’re talking about. “No need to identify anyone” I thought that was rather clear.

Soups are always good. Most people can tolerate broth, applesauce, puddings, etc. This is a respiratory virus, not a GI virus, so gut issues shouldn't be a major issue. Do have Tylenol available to reduce fever and wash the hell out of your hands! Here's hoping the virus will simply pass you by. There was a study published in CHEST about 20 years ago that showed that grandma’s chicken soup helped a cold <chuckle> Seems to me I recall that study, or one much like it. I remember getting quite a giggle with my mother over it. Listen to your elders!

I’m starting to think Debra Birx might actually be the right person for the job. She seems to genuinely have our health in mind and isn’t such a suck up/puppet. She is data driven. She has pandemic experience. She answers questions directly. She is practical.
Hoping I’m not wrong. Fauci needs a friend. But they don’t stand together, so...

ok - in addition to sick coworker - multiple coworkers were at the venue that now has 4 confirmed cases. And work is still not telling anyone about this!!
Sick coworker has requested testing but is being denied because she is not a health care worker.
Meanwhile - work only states that some staff has had "cold-like symptoms" - a fever is not a cold-like symptom...they refuse to mention that these coworkers attended an event with 4 confirmed cases......
4 - there will be more, no doubt.
I continue to be completed disgusted.

I'm in isolation..... sent home from School yesterday as being high risk (asthma) so I have gone to ground. I have plenty of food, dog food, cleaners, masks, sanitisers ....... have bought paint and intend to decorate and spring clean ... and walk the dogs on the mountains. Also got to set some School work.
We aren't allowed to go to the doctors/hospital if we get it (risk of contamination) ... you stay at home and there is a special number you ring if you get short of breath. Just hoping they pick up the phone if you need them.

Ok, I know I'm out "in the sticks", but not THAT far outside a major city. I just got back from our "regular" grocery store (not a Walmart). The section of the meat department that sells chicken was completely cleaned out. Not a chicken leg, not even a chicken foot (which I don't eat) to be found. Then, I headed over to the beef section, and everything is gone, except for the most expensive cuts. The deli still has meat, but it's pretty expensive, and still stocked. Most of the lunchmeat section is sold, too. Now, this is only 2 in the afternoon. I went to the dairy section, and the cheese is mostly gone, butter is gone, except for the most expensive brand, and most other dairy is pretty well picked thru. Frozen foods: there's a 2 item limit, and almost all of the frozen chicken is empty. I managed to find some frozen bags of beef lo mein, on the top shelf that had fallen over, so I took two of those. (I actually like lo mein.) But seriously, is everyone buying big freezers, or what is going on? I talked to the cashier as I was checking out, and she said it was the second time this week that they'd sold out on chicken (not that I'd planned to buy any). She mentions there is supposed to be another truck tomorrow.
So, how is needing to go to the grocery store every day going to keep people from getting exposed? If we get shortages on items other than toilet paper & cleaning supplies, that could be how new infections get started...

I work retail. I am paid hourly. Our merchandise leans heavily toward the Spring season. For all that is holy, a Spring artificial wreath is a F’in NON-essential purchase!!! Get the F out!!! If you want seeds yo start a veggie garden because you fear food shortages, I’m your girl. But do NOT ask me yo help you pick out a houseplant!!! Go the F home!!! 🤬

The store is still having her do her standard part time hours in her department but she is also being asked to work up to a full forty hours doing checking. She is a time player so is doing it but hates touching the money.

For example, Im a first responder and will be working no matter how bad this gets. I have prepared to prevent it, but also had to realistically prepare for if and when I get it. What's your take? I think that your take is spot on. You probably should be preparing to contract the virus. It would be wise for you to prepare for a period or several periods of self-isolation. You also probably should be taking steps to limit your contact with vulnerable persons.
I don't want to pooh-pooh PPE but there is a shortage and you may not be issued appropriate equipment in adequate amounts.
It's not easy to start thinking of yourself as a vector of disease, but that might be what you have to do.
On the other hand, and I might just be struggling to say anything positive, you might have some priority for testing due to your occupation. There's some possibility that testing of first responders will become a way to get a handle on how widespread this disease is and whether a person can be infected twice. There's a possible silver lining in there somewhere, I just don't know how to articulate it well.

She'll have sweaty hands, but at least will reduce her exposure.

If you're at the store anyway I can't see not buying, although I'd be keeping my distance from other people and not asking for help. That's what Google is for. I really need help getting my bike fixed but keep holding off because it's not essential. But I'm borrowing dh's bike everyday and any extended isolation I really will need it.

I think anything non-essential should be cancelled. This way we not only limit the spread but also limit the crowds and hazards for the elderly, first responders and so on.

Call me silly, but when I went down to the neighborhood mail boxes I had on a pair of vinyl gloves. There is no way of knowing where the hands of the letter carrier have been or where the envelope of junk mail has been.
Junk mail went straight into the trash can, peeled the gloves off then washed my hands anyway.

It’s not silly at all. I wish I’d have grabbed more from the hospital before we were told to stay home.
