The next thing to happen is the CDC will decide they don't like the WHO's announcement because they want to make their own announcement. Then they'll screw it up in writing it, delay it, and give 10% of an announcement while telling us the other 90% will be coming "soon".

The White House staff removes all the Sharpies. And drive tRump into Sharpie withdrawal. Just what we need to drive him further around the bend.

Wonder what happens next? Tell Pence that Covid19 turns people gay. There will be a cure and a vaccine by morning.

Wonder what happens next? Tell Pence that Covid19 turns people gay. There will be a cure and a vaccine by morning. Yes! That was literally the first thing I said when it was announced that he would be in charge of the US response to Covid19. (It was actually a defense mechanism to avoid sobbing uncontrollably.) The next thing I said was "We're all going to die."

About that toilet paper... I saw on YouTube someone mentioned Amazon is out. Shit if they weren't telling the truth! The world is officially ending - Amazon is OUT of toilet paper... I just had this conversation with a coworker...who I don't particularly like anyways. Him: "People are so f****** stupid about this coronavirus. They just do dumb stuff like buying up all the toilet paper they can find because they're f****** idiots. Went to the store last night and they're totally out of toilet paper because this lemming mindset has them all freaking out. So since the store was out of toilet paper I had to go on Amazon to order some, so I ordered basically a year's worth so I wouldn't have to worry about it again" Me: "So people who freak out and buy up tons of toilet paper are stupid? And then you immediately went out and bought up tons of toilet paper?" Him: "Totally different, I didn't do it because of coronavirus, I did it because other idiots are doing it" Me: "Yeah, that's the lemming thing you were saying".

You'd think there would be a run on bidets, but no.......... My feelings on bidets are much like my feelings on garbage disposals. Awesome! Something else that needs to be cleaned, maintained and repaired as time goes by. How helpful!

What does it take to be classified as a pandemic? I just looked at the CNN headline that said 115,800 infected and 4,200 dead. But the world population is currently 7.7 billion. So, 0.0015% infected and 0.00005% dead.
Those numbers seem really small to be classified as a pandemic. Is the classification based on what could potentially happen if the spread isn't halted?

I think it has to do with how far it has spread (number of geographic regions affected) rather than the number of confirmed patients. I'm not an epidemiologist or other qualified clinical professional, so I'm just guessing and could be wrong. ETA: Yes, I could look it up, but I'm too lazy and otherwise occupied at present. And you're right, it probably would have been better not to comment in that case, but I'm also bored.

His voice overrides my blood pressure meds. I'd assume it will be like all of his other speeches on the topic: 1. just like the flu 2. goes away on its own 3. he's launched the best fight ever of any president and no one could have done better than him 4. the democrats hate how well he's fighting the virus and if they were in charge surely everyone would die.

Nice work @shastasnewlife! That's exactly how it'll play out. And, he'll be so confident that all is well, that he'll go play golf again this coming weekend.

Trump fears emergency declaration would contradict coronavirus messagePresident Donald Trump is reluctant to declare an expansive emergency to combat the escalating coronavirus outbreak, fearful of stoking panic with such a dramatic step, according to three people familiar with the situation. Instead, the president is expected to sign within days a more limited designation to allow the federal government to cover small business loans, paychecks for hourly workers and delay tax bills, the White House said Wednesday. A emergency declaration would go significantly beyond that move, bringing in the Federal Emergency Management Agency and freeing up funding and resources for states struggling to contain the rapidly spreading virus. Trump’s concern at this point is that going further could hamper his narrative that the coronavirus is similar to the seasonal flu, said the three people familiar with the discussions. The administration is also negotiating with Congress over a stimulus package designed to cushion the coronavirus-hampered economy. That calculation could change in the coming weeks, though. “The president isn’t persuaded because [an emergency declaration] contradicts his message that this is the flu,” said a Republican who speaks to Trump. Trump is walking a fine line as coronavirus cases in the U.S. sail past 1,000. As the president ramps up for a 2020 reelection campaign, he is trying to simultaneously signal calm to the American public, comfort businesses whose customers have disappeared amid self-isolation directives and ensure there is enough money to combat the still-new disease. Yeah, he reminds me of the slackers at work who would show up late on Monday and leave early Friday all the while complaining they do all the important work...
