Is it true the pulp and nerve removal was the worst of it? I asked if the upcoming root canal was going to be as painful and she said no... I'm really hoping that's the case. I don’t remember it being any more painful. I seem to remember it taking longer though. Yeah, the appt is 3 hours long. But, they do the same-day crowns and I opted to pay out-of-pocket for that option. I'm really hoping they don't dig around too much. Yesterday was pretty painful for a bit despite all the Novocain...

It is. Be careful not to bite your lip or cheek, and take something before the meds wear off. Thanks for letting me know it's normal. She said I might still be partially numb in the morning because she couldn't get my nerves numb and kept having to inject me. It feels really weird, but at least the pain is gone! Well, for now... Glad you are getting through this! You may want to call and double check on that tooth hitting the filling like that. My dentist usually (actually, always) grinds it down so that this does not occur. Sometimes he puts a template in my mouth and has me bite down to leave an impression for him to work with. You may be just fine, but you may need him to grind down the temp filling a little bit to avoid stressing it by excess contact. Should be quick and painless if he has to.

Once the numbness is out if it hits and causes your jaw to be uncomfortable, they can adjust it, otherwise your jaw will get really sore.
I have had TONS of dental work, so know a lot from a laymans point of view.

I have had TONS of dental work, so know a lot from a laymans point of view. There's a visible crack between my damaged tooth and the temp filling and I have started having some pain again. I plan to call tomorrow and ask what I should do... If they can't see me I want to know if I can use some of the temp stuff available over the counter to fill it.

If the crack goes down to the root, the tooth is toast. Ibuprofen is supposed to be best for tooth pain, if you can take it.

The dentist said the discolored area I see right next to the filling is some sort of silver medication they put in the tooth.
She put me on a second antibiotic and a stronger anti-inflammatory and claims the pain I have is from the infection in the root causing the tooth to be out of alignment in my bite.

I got the call today that the dentist had a cancellation and could do my root canal and crown. So glad to have it done and over with and not have to wait 2 months.
Apparently my tooth had another root she missed during the pulp removal and that's why it was still hurting so bad. Something about 90% of teeth having 3 roots and mine had 4.
Thanks again for everyone's advice and info. Looking forward to no dental pain and scored some special toothpaste until I can have more work done.

Yeah, my Mom ran into the 4 root when she had a root canal a couple of years ago. Plus her roots were longer than normal. So when I had a root canal shortly after hers, I told the dentist so he could be aware, in case stuff like that has a genetic component. He was happy to have the heads up on it but I had the standard size, 3 root tooth. I'm glad you got in early and it's taken care of.

Anyone have any thoughts on why I am still in pain after the root canal?
$2K and I still hurt. Feeling pretty frustrated today...
