I found this on the Import Policy page, but 20 kg is only about 44 lbs Personal imports Travellers may bring into Canada a personal import of pet food (limit of 20 kg), if the import meets all of the following requirements:
the pet food or product must be of United States origin and be commercially packaged the pet food or product must be in the possession of the traveller at the time of entry from the U.S. the animal that will eat the imported product must accompany the traveller at the time of entry the imported product is fed only to the animal that accompanied the traveller into Canada
Huh. When we brought our dogs to Canada one weekend there was no question or concern about the dog food at all. Just asked us if we had our vet records and we said yes and then we were waived through. Good to know! It depends upon who you get when you go through. We bring the mutt through the border around once each week and have never been asked about vaccinations (which we do have, copy with the car registration and insurance card) but are always asked about what we are bringing across the border - in both directions. There really is no rhyme or reason as to who they'll screen 'harder' than others. Most times we will get waved through, but a few times we will get the third degree.

I think the bottled water is because the Chinese water supply became contaminated, helping to spread the virus. I like to have some in case the power goes off, anyway, or for workers. But one case is enough. I have a few gallons of distilled water for the steam mop; I can give that to Abby if it comes down to it.

Sanitation in China leaves so much to be desired (as in how children go to the bathroom) that I would never drink water there.

I am a support staff at the school district. If schools were to close, I will have to use up my sick leave to stay paid. It is a bummer to me as I was hoping to 'save' it up for the day to cash out. Currently, I have a little more than 100+ days. It will hit those the hardest with no such leave to claim from.
I am fairly stocked up in terms of basic supplies, food and water. I do the bottled water stock-up whenever I get a good price on it. Last weekend, I got a 32-pack of 16.9 oz for $1.49. I think it is good to have bottled water around just in case if some terrorists strike and contaminate our water supply. I also have some N95 masks, just in case.

We're doing a Walmart run today to restock fresh veggies and fruit. I'll pick up an extra TP while we're there. Maybe some canned fruit as well. We have some, but not much. Other than that, we could stay home for weeks with what we have in the pantry and freezer. Our shopping trips are usually driven by the lack of fresh produce in the house.

Well, I tried to buy rice at Sam's Club last night and they were all sold out. I'm a little annoyed, because we actually NEEDED rice, it wasn't just to stock up, so I guess I'll be buying some small bags at the grocery store tonight instead.

Yesterday, I needed to pick up Harriet’s food from Costco. LOL! I did a drive through of the parking lot, it was absolutely crazy so left without even parking. I stopped at a local, independent pet shop to get her food instead. It wasn’t cheaper, but it saved me some aggravation.
Hit the grocery store across the street. The siding company is delivering the material today, and starting work on the house possibly this week. I wanted to have a case of water on hand for them, picked up TP (which we needed too, and would have normally gotten at Costco) and a few other things. I really didn’t notice any empty shelves.

Over the previous two days I went to target and two different grocery stores and both were business as usual. My wife loads up on toilet paper when it's on sale so we have plenty of that but I'm not really sure why there's been a run on it in some areas. We also have water delivered every two weeks and I've always paid the extra $ to have 2 more 5 gallon bottles than we need on hand. One thing we will need in the coming weeks is more hand soap simply because we're getting low and I'll probably keep an eye out now in case people are buying that up in bulk.

I wonder what areas are having more people stock up. I was at Walmart on Thursday and it was crowded, but well stocked. They were completely out of small bottles of hand sanitizer. I went to the grocery store yesterday and they were cleaned out of cold medicine, hand soap, and hand sanitizer. I didn't go into the paper goods isle, but I didn't see any shortages in any of the food isles.

I went to the grocery store on Sunday. All the shelves were stocked and it was business as usual. I live in a fairly large city. The grocery store is ALWAYS crowded. Personally, I will continue normal life as long as I am able to do so...This is just my personal opinion (though health experts have said the same), but I think this virus has been present in this country longer than originally thought. My guess is there were people coming over from China well before anyone realized they "needed" to be checking for the virus. It is quite likely that people thought they were just jet lagged or got a cold. Why would they think otherwise? I have developed a cold upon return from international travel a couple of times. I just brush it off and say "yeah, probably picked something up on the plane.." The fact is, that for many, the virus doesn't develop into anything serious. I read that it doesn't effect children at all (not sure if that is true but that is what I read). If that is true, then lots of kids could be running around with the virus and no one has a clue... Anyway, the fact of the matter is that it is impossible to get away from germs unless you are going to live in a plastic bubble. I feel like the only thing we can do is practice good hygiene and use common sense. I worry about the elderly and those with compromised immune systems the most.

I live about 10 miles from the home office of Walmart and Sams Club. You can't imagine the size of the buildings involved within the logistics that WMT has. So far,the only empty shelves I saw was in the candy aisle. Everything else was normal, and that was yesterday morning.

The only thing I noticed missing from Sam's Club was the rice...and maybe toilet paper. There were bare areas in the paper products area, but we were in a hurry so I wasn't looking too close. The store was totally dead (but it was a Monday night). I stocked up on hand soap and bought a new container of hand sanitizer and some Nyquil. There was lots of all that stuff. I almost put the Nyquil back because I use the scan and go on my phone and it wouldn't let me buy that without going through the actual check out.

I was surprised to see empty spots on the aisles during our shopping. The TP aisle was 3/4 cleaned out. There were no bananas and other fruit was low. We did get some Italian sausage marked down. The soup aisle was full.
DH asked one of the workers and she said that the truck hadn't come in yet today. So they may just be seeing their normal cycle?

I always keep a big bottle of hand sanitizer (which is also used to fill the small bottle in my purse). I have always been one to constantly wash my hands and/or use hand sanitizer anyway. This whole wash your hands and use hand sanitizer is nothing new for me. I am also diligent about wiping down machines at the gym before I use them.
For me it is the fact this stuff is airborne...I have to travel for work so I am on planes and sitting in airports a lot.

I bought 6 bottles of sanitizer at CVS the other day. Our Walmart is well stocked, but the last 2 times I was in there it was packed, they had to call up 1 extra cashier, several lanes were open and I think were going to get another. Ours has been doing that for awhile. But this is the first of the month, SS, food stamps, aid, and all that stuff folks are getting so people are buying food.
I have a couple cases of TP and toweling paper downstairs. And a 25 pound bag of rice, of sugar, of popcorn, 50 pound of wheat, and bags of flour in the freezer. Added more shampoo. I have some really high dollar stuff I've used. Caviar for the hair. Bought some Pantene, that stuff is 10 times better and cheap, so added some more of it. I added cooking oil the other day, have 6 gallons I think. But even hubs said we need enough supplies that we can make it a few weeks if it hits here. Never heard him say that before. We didn't make it on the meat run but I will. Maybe Saturday. Thursday, hubs has an eye appointment, and I'm picking up and paying for my new glasses. Friday paying out all the tax money, sigh. But its ok, still have enough for my hardwood flooring and my recliner, and may get the used lingerie cabinet. Our furniture store gets so much really nice used furniture from folks going to nursing homes. Some of it is beautiful stuff. It would help with a lot of things in our bedroom.
MIL's pillow came so now we can take her the pillow and sheets for her bed. I do like to see her have nice clothing and things. Not much she can have there. I'm thinking of getting her a nice rocker like she had, its in the basement. But I need to spend that money down, and this may finish it up.
Monday is DD's birthday, I have to find her a gift of some kind and of course a cake. She always wants one that is deli made. I don't care for the taste, would rather have home made, but if she wants it, we will get it. I saw some fuzzy rugs I might get for her bathroom. Again we don't need them, but she has to have something and she likes things like that
When she gets her new bed, and she wanted one on rollers which I got, we are having them haul the old one off. Maybe they can fix the adjustable tempurpedic bed frame and reuse it. They are expensive.
I try to buy from the local furniture store, but the 3 colors for that comfy chair are ugly. She gave me samples, drat, really like the quality and comfort of it. I will check in the city, I guess.

It won't hurt us, now if it comes here could hit some of our renters, hope not as most are living paycheck to paycheck. But we can survive.

I have a job that can be done just as well from home, so working from home to take care of my family wouldn’t be an issue.
I have 2-4 weeks worth of groceries at my house. I also have a few gallons jugs of water in both of the freezers at my house. That way if the power goes off my perishables will stay good longer. And it’s potable water if the water supply gets shut off. I also always have Pedialyte, crackers, chicken soup, and Tylenol on hand. I got caught with my pants down once when I was in grad school. Never again.
Where I live, having a stockpile of food in your house is pretty common, so the stores are normal.
I agree it’s going to be very rough for people who don’t have work from home jobs or decent health insurance. The local government in my area is very competent. I’m sure they have a plan, a back up plan, and a back up for the back up plan. Being prepared is part of the culture.

The ones that are going to be hardest hit will be hourly workers in contact with the public and who don't have paid sick leave. Those positions tend to be very low pay (minimum wage) and I can't see how they could even prepare by just stocking up on food.

Yeah, that hit me Monday at WalMart when the lady in front of me put stuff back because she didn't have enough cash to pay. There are a lot of folks that barely get through the week from payday to payday; they don't have anything to stock up with.

I stocked up on TP and Paper Towels, also bought another package of napkins. I recently bought soap in a refill container. I could not find hand sanitizer, but I still had some in the cupboard with DD's name on it. I figured it has been about 15 years since she was asked to bring hand sanitizer to school. Hopefully it is still good - I don't like to use it - I have sensitive skin and it burns when I use it.
I need water bottles and I am addicted to diet pepsi, so I need to buy some more. I bought laundry detergent and some canned goods. I just bought a big sack of rice the other day, but we use rice on a regular basis - so I probably should have bought 2 bags. I can't eat most canned soups so I don't know what we will eat if we get quarantined. DH and I also are not set up to work from home. I also don't know how work's payroll will get done if that happens.

News here announced tonight there is a "presumptive" case in the next county over, a 70 year old man who is hospitalized. He recently traveled abroad but they aren't saying where. His test results should be back in a couple of days. I am officially freaking out now.

We have loads of canned goods, TP, water..etc. I've always been a stock-up kind of person and DH came on board 11 years ago when I was diagnosed with BC and was out of work for various complications related to the cancer/treatment for almost a year- we had my disability income but not much else coming from me, but we had enough food to feed us all!
My business is work from home, but DH is a First Responder so he'll be on the frontline in his work community, which is a ~suburb of Milwaukee....and he's also older and has some health complications. I admit to being very worried about him coming down with this virus. He's had pneumonia in the past from the flu and gets cold/sinus issues more often than most. Money is so/so - he could stay home and we wouldn't lose the house, but his loyalty is to the town that pays him, so he'd go in to work unless he was actually sick, which means he runs the constant risk of being exposed.
We went to our local grocery store on Monday night around 7:30, spent about $300 on frozen food as well as fresh, store was empty of customers and the shelves were full - as was the Dollar General when I popped in on Tuesday to get a couple of bday cards. We live in a very VERY rural area and I don't think anyone has really started to panic-shop at all. The Costco stores in Madison are ALWAYS crazy busy..so I'm going to guess that they've been hard hit already, but I have no interest in driving there to see. I'm bunkered down already!

I saw my very first ever person wearing a mask in public out grocery shopping last night. I just can't get myself to that level of concern yet. Even in Wuhan that is the major hotspot, only .5% of the population contracted it so far and over 95% of those just had mild cold/flu symptoms. When you see numbers like 60,000 thrown out it seems like a lot until you remember there are over 11 million in the city.

Everything I've read is that a mask doesn't really prevent contracting it so much as it prevents a cough or a sneeze spreading the virus.

My husband has already gotten into my coronavirus supplies and started eating the Oreo cookies. We had a bit of a showdown over it and he outstubborned me, so I have to come to terms with the fact that if we have to ever self quarantine, we won't have any snacks left that are tempting to him.
I don't know why people are going for the toilet paper, but my grocery store was almost out on Tuesday night when we did our normal grocery shopping.

I don't have a mask and have no intention of buying one. Everything I am reading says it doesn't prevent contacting the virus but it can prevent the spread if you are ill.

I saw a guy in a mask in a shopping center parking lot Tuesday night. It's the only one I've seen so far. I haven't been in the warehouse club lately to see if they are out of anything.
They sent 2 cases locally to Atlanta to be tested but I never saw results. Both had recently traveled to China.
