If you go to the CNBC coronavirus blog and scroll down to a graphic posted around 6:30 this morning, you can see what I am talking about. There's a side-by-side comparison of new cases reported in China and the best of the world and they started behaving dramatically differently about two weeks ago.

My 5yo DD and I are scheduled to go out to Colorado next month, and I am slightly worried about possible exposure at the airports. We are flying Southwest, so I can cancel at the last minute without any fees, so I am definitely keeping that in mind. I am also going to Colorado (Denver) but in mid-April. No plans to change it, as I have family I need to see before both of them pass away; they are elderly and one is ill. I also plan to race while I am there. Something short like a 5K, as I have never run at altitude.
I will take masks and gloves and adhere to hand washing protocols, also keep myself healthy as possible between now and then.

We aren't going now, because my SIL has to have surgery. But I have run in CO with no problem. I think my longest has been 8 miles. The altitude doesn't seem to affect me too much. The lack of humidity is wonderful!

I was planning to fly south in May for a family reunion, but have decided not to travel unnecessarily

The lack of humidity is wonderful! I have a race tomorrow at Kennedy Space Center. Starting temps in the low forties, and no humidity expected. Should be awesome. And I am overall healthy, so the altitude thing should not be an issue. I am giving myself a few days to acclimate and keeping it to a short race. My goal is here is mostly to add to my bucket list of doing a race in every state, as opposed to sheer mileage.

I have a trip planned for May, with flight reservations. I'm taking a wait and see attitude. I do have travel insurance.
A lot can change between now and then so I am not canceling and eating the air fare at this point.

Well, I’m finally rethinking my travel plans. We were planning a trip to Singapore in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to it, visiting good friends. Yesterday, my company announced a 14 day quarantine for anyone traveling internationally. 3.5 weeks out of the office, even with working from home is really going to be a challenge.

I didn't have any travel plans other then a vague plan to have a long weekend in the Lower Mainland with my sisters sometime in the Spring. That will probably still happen.
One of my co-workers had been visiting family in the Philippines. He was able to come home last week through South Korea. Another co-worker had friends go there at the same time to get married rather than have all of their relatives travel here. They are stuck there right now as they were flying home through China. Other of his friends have cancelled trips home because they can't afford to be there longer then their original planned vacation. They are worried that there may be a complete travel ban before they come home.
My supervisor is still going to Mexico next week. We could always ship her laptop to her to work remotely if she's stuck there because of travel restrictions. And if she got sick, I could cover her urgent tasks for a couple of months. It's just the long term and special projects that would languish.
As far as I know, all of the teams are still coming here mid-March for the Women's World Curling Championships. DD hasn't heard anything about people cancelling coming here for the Annual Dance Festival that is happening the same week. We are still dealing with the usual flu and cold season so, except for being stuck somewhere longer then planned, no one is really thinking much about COVID19.

Everything except the air fare can be canceled and refunded. Also just wait and see.

I'm trying not to freak out about this. I'm leaving for South America on March 10. The rational part of my brain says that I'm probably not in any more danger in South America than in the US, although I'm going to be more careful about germs while flying there and back. I ought to go look for anti-viral wipes but I'm sure that they're gone from the shelves. I just plan to wash my hands a lot.
And I just started worrying about the scheduled early-May trip to Chicago with my granddaughters. Not much I can do- the airfare is purchased and non-cancellable. I'll just have to have a discussion with DS and DDIL as we get closer to the date. I'll abide by their wishes even if it means walking away from $1,000 worth of airfare. The hotel is booked on Hilton points so at least I can cancel that with no penalty.

No. I had a trip to Europe planned for this spring that got cancelled for unrelated reasons, and I am still flying back and forth to Florida. I also have a car trip around the West taking up two or three weeks in May. No worries.

TD’s mom just called and she canceled our trip for dim sum in Vancouver next weekend, and are going to her place for lunch instead. TD thinks she might be antsy about being in such a crowd. She is over 80, not the best demographic to get sick.

Just arrived in Spain. Son is studying here for semester. Since the virus has spread widely, unless you are traveling to an area where the number of cases is exploding, your risk is not likely any different. Look at what is happening in the US. RI and NY have announced cases. Other states will soon join them. The proverbial cat is out of the bag on this one. No way to know who has it, could be a neighbor soon

Contrary to the CDC recommendations of testing, WA is testing severe lung infections...not necessarily just those exposed to patients who have traveled or links to known passengers.

My husband school trip to Japan in May might get canceled. Other than that, we weren’t planning on going anywhere that far anytime soon.
From what I’ve heard, this virus isn’t any more of a threat than influenza. People over 80 and people with underlying health conditions. Has anybody heard any different?

Mostly older people, but in WA a woman in her 40’s and two males in their 20’s are hospitalized. Out of 39 confirmed cases. With a highly contagious virus, how many healthy males in their 20’s would you expect to see hospitalized if the number of confirmed cases reached 1000? This is more deadly than the flu and it’s more contagious

From what I’ve heard, this virus isn’t any more of a threat than influenza. People over 80 and people with underlying health conditions. Has anybody heard any different? You heard wrong. It's 20 times more deadly than the flu. The annual flu typically has a mortality rate of around 0.1% in the U.S. So far, there's a 0.05% mortality rate among those who caught the flu virus in the U.S. this year, according to the CDC. In comparison, recent data suggests that COVID-19 has a mortality rate more than 20 times higher, of around 2.3%, according to a study published Feb. 18 by the China CDC Weekly. The death rate varied by different factors such as location and an individual's age, according to a previous Live Science report. www.livescience.com/coronavirus-myths.html

We are probably cancelling our cruise we have scheduled for August. I do not want to get quarantined at sea and I do not want to be a carrier and not know it and get my mom or my aunt sick.
We are looking at Sandals in Barbados or Bahamas instead. Or whatever ideas the travel agent has come up with.

So, We're probably not going to Seattle to visit DS for his birthday in 2 weeks. We've been watching the situation and I think we'll stay home. Shutting down UW was the last trigger. So far, until there is a case in our city (in Oregon), I don't plan to limit social activities. Just use recommended precautions. ETA: A more interesting decision: We are supposed to meet members of a car club from Seattle tomorrow for a drive and lunch. Do we bail on this also?

Of course, not many 90-year-olds go on cruises. But my husband and I are pretty squarely in the cruise ship demographic, slightly older, not particularly athletic, but not particularly sickly either. livescience.com/is-Coronavirus-deadly.html. But yeah, you’re right, coronavirus is more deadly than the flu. I’ve heard that the mortality rate for the flu is between .5% and 1%,

That’s one reason I’ve never gone on one, despite really liking the idea of a vacation where I do nothing.

I woman I know just got back from a business trip to Copenhagen. She flew first-class. Health Canada contacted her and said someone on the flight may have had Covid-19 and to please quarantine herself. She's living in the basement and her son and husband leave her food at the top of the stairs with disposable dishes and cutlery.

We have decided to bail on our September trip to Niagara Falls and upstate NY. We do not have to pull the plug until June in order to get our deposit back, but I don't think the scenario will change by then. 6th case in my city today and health authorities advise folks over 60 to avoid gatherings like church, etc. Even if tour group fails to refund $1,000 deposit (which I expect) that's better than losing $8,000 or our lives.
I'm struggling not to over-react, but so many local activities and events were cancelled today.

My daughter's trip was 'postponed'. She is both happy and bummed. She is handling it like a champ. A couple of her friends - not so much. Being a teen can be hard. Disappointment can be a hard emotion. I feel for all of them, but proud that my daughter is being cool.

I’m not going to England and France until September so I’m sure this will be over by then. I do want to take a family trip to Oregon this summer or spring if possible.

Daughter and husband rent out condos at a ski resort, cancellations started coming in. Younger son is working from home, his wife thinks HS she’s working at will close next week. Older son is a physician so certainly will be working although he’s an orthopedic surgeon so think he’ll not be exposed unless it’s at hospital??? This feels like a movie where a monster is slowly coming into the room

We have tickets to London May 11. It's looking less and less likely that we will go. All our hotels can be cancelled. Currently Delta has a no charge to change or rebook offer that is good until April 30. I'm hoping that that gets extended into May. That would only leave 3 sets of theater tickets that are non refundable.

Tom Hanks and his wife are in Australia. Both have tested positive for the coronavirus.
