the market opened +600 and is now about even. it will probably be down today, and if it is, we will officially be in a bear market. not yet!! By week's end??

By week's end?? the market was lower early in the day. these final hour rallies are not very convincing to me. it seems like people are sitting around, bored, filling positions they could not get in the last year. but they are fighting a downdraft. I don't think that the payroll tax chatter helps the underlying causes. manufacturing is already technically in a recession. oil prices are 20% below where they were a week ago. and, finally, there is CV19.

Futures are down nearly another 5% as I write this. I wonder what the Trumpettes are gonna cling to now that their precious stock market to beat all stock markets is going up in smoke? Could this be The Universe reaching out and extending the proverbial middle finger to the great orange one? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, as my many comparative posts have shown, the Obama market gains were always much better than Trump’s. Last time I think B. Hussein’s gains were 50% greater. But all the blowhards and gadflies and Presidents were still not going to give him any credit even while the Impeached One could barely stop patting himself on the back while riding Obama’s coattails. Because, well, you know.

Although I completely despise Trump, and considered him abhorrent long before he became POTUS, I feel it would be a bit of a cheap shot to do it right now. The virus outbreak is obviously a mitigating factor to that decision. We all know the market is in the tank without any further comment from me at this time. However, I’m sure there will come a time where his renewed crowing will piss me off enough that I will return to document his fevered braggadocio in comparison to the real gains achieved under the Obama administration.

the hedge fund managers are still buying on downturns. they don't really give a fuck. it is not their money.

This is why you shouldn't be too concerned about daily market changes. Yesterday we were down -$107,662. But the day before were up +$105,562. Only down -$2100 over two days. Now for the last 30 days we are down about $400k. I'll make that back before needing any.

BND Vanguard Total Bond is down 4.32%
VTEB Vanguard Tax Exempt Bond down 4.77%
Everything is getting taken to the woodshed.

Now for the last 30 days we are down about $400k. I'll make that back before needing any. the market opened down almost 2000 in a runaway gap. this is short term bearish and long term bullish. bookmark this spot. the market should recover to 24000 within 3 months.
but we are going to go through some varying degree of hell in the next month or so. the market is seeking bottom. this could be it, but it really doesn't seem like it. next support level is 16k.
this has the look and feel of a rout. and Trump is looking more foolish and incompetent in the face of it by the second.

There's no doubt that in my lifetime and possibly ever that Trump is the least qualified president to lead us through something like this. Even someone like Carter (before my time) who took flack for his tenure as president by all accounts is a good and well liked person who would listen to the experts and people he surrounded himself with in a situation like this. It's not like you can blame the president for the virus but he completely dropped the ball on responding to it such as declining the tests WHO offered and supposedly having his son in law involved in coming up with a response. His shenanigans and attitude worked during "normal" times but I'm hoping this is the nail in his presidential coffin come November.

Uh oh, watch it bucko. Saying the “Stock market is still much higher than when I got here and will bounce back” is getting quite close to a new comparison being published. We are at DJIA 21,478 right now.

but the latter point is probably right. it probably will bounce back. the question really is how low will it go FIRST.
if everyone had taken Trump's advice a few weeks ago, they would have lost 20%. this market is still not a bargain. not even close. it has not been a bargain for decades.

I gotta fess up that I took profits on the highest risk (>60%) portion of my taxable account once I saw the futures last night. Unfortunately the sale won't execute until 4pm today... At the end of January I was up $10k in that account. After today, I'll prob be up around $6k, but I'm okay with taking the $ and running at this point, as this is where I've stored the bulk of my EF over the past few years as dropping interest rates made keeping it in a savings account a poor idea. The idea was to put it somewhere where it might make 5% annually rather than lose 5% daily. If it swings up and I lose out, so be it, but this is my "can't lose" cash, so must keep it somewhat safe. Not touching retirement accounts tho (obviously). My time horizon is still so long on those that I'll view this as a nice sale once the dust settles. But freeing up the taxable removes much of stress of this debacle and allows me to focus my attention where it belongs, which is pointing and laughing at Trumpty Dumpty while he flails and squirms.

I'm letting it ride. this is precisely the scenario I have been investing for for the last three years.
I am about 60% cash, 20% at risk, and the rest in "negative beta" holdings (investments that perform well in down markets). worst case scenario, I end up down 20%, which I can live with.

I want to take this minute to congratulate all of you that need to turn this into a Trump failure, You may have succeeded! Unfortunately, the rest of the Country is going down with him!
The panic that you have caused by promoting how bad the virus is, and NO cooperation between the Parties.
Well, There will be a huge amount of deaths,, but most will be financial!!! The businesses that are going to fail, the number of people that will be out of work,,, 2008, is going to look like a cake walk!! We do have our Savior!! Sanders, He will give everything free,, think of what the deficit will look like then!!! Global Warming, half the World will be back to heating and cooking with campfires!! Is Sanders or Biden going to have shovel ready jobs??
