Oh the will for a bit, but they'll bounce back. And by then stock prices will be high again. But if I can get in the stock for half price? They still have a bit to go before I'd consider buying it right now. Which cruiseline, if you don't mind me asking? We always cruise NCL NCL. Down to 34 a share when I looked earlier today.

The stock of my favorite cruise line is almost at a 5 year low. I'm debating buying some because if you own 100 stocks they give you $100 obc each 7 day cruise you take. I took 2 with them last year, so could have gotten $200. Current price is good but it would still take a chunk out of my savings that was decimated recently due to an HOA assessment. But it'll be mighty tempting if the price drops under $30. I would wait a bit on buying cruise stock...and I'm an avid cruiser! I think out of all vacations, cruises are going to be the hardest hit over the coronavirus. Of course, I could be way off base No, i think you're right. The image of that cruise ship stuck in port, customers stuck in their cabins for weeks, waiting to see how many of them will come down with the coronavirus will stick with all of us for a long while. That had to be hell on earth....

Hearing the stories of the cruise ships during this is only more reason for me to travel using other modes.

Airplanes are notorious for spreading disease (all that canned air) but at least they last longer. Probably depends on the cruise line, too - there was a doctor on that ship who said the crew seemed to know nothing about how to prevent spreading a viral degree. Probably why people kept getting sick.

Apparently they will keep thousands of people on a boat for a long, long time.

It's all Pelosi's fault now. She is being divisive. And Chuck E Schumer is complaining too much.

another 300 points this morning. we are now below where we were on January 26th, 2018. MAGA!
edit: support at 26,600 was shattered on open this morning. the Dow fell to 26000 before recovering to 26775. it is now falling again, down more than 700.
we are now officially in a correction (the Dow was -12% from it's high a couple weeks ago at 10:30 EST). it took less than a week. 1/8 of market values vanished in that amount of time. poof.
this is not an orderly decline. it is a chaotic freefall. much like our president.
MAGA!

And shame on the Democrats. Trump blames Monday and Tuesday's stock market slide on Dem debate that happened Tuesday nightThe president’s argument rests on a misunderstanding of how time works. President Donald Trump tried to pin this week’s stock market slide in the face of a potential coronavirus outbreak on Democrats. But the case he made to do that was nonsensical — even by his standards. During a news conference on Wednesday that was meant to quell fears, Trump explained away the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s nearly 2,000-point dip on Monday and Tuesday not first and foremost by acknowledging reality — which is that investors are spooked by fears we’re amid the early stages of a global pandemic — but by insisting that they’re spooked by the prospect of Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden becoming the next president. “I think the financial markets are very upset when they look at the Democrat candidates standing on that stage, making fools out of themselves, and they say, ‘If we ever have a president like this,’” Trump said, referring to the most recent Democratic presidential debate held in South Carolina. “When they look at the statements made by the people standing behind those podiums, I think that has a huge effect.” article here: Trump blames Monday and Tuesday's stock market slide on Dem debate that happened Tuesday night

oh yeah, that is another thing he does well: blaming. forgot about that for a sec. go ahead, Trump. blame your way out of this one. good luck with that. the buck stops anywhere but there.
-1200. MAGA!!!!
-3800 in a couple of weeks. -13% oh, this is so very very good.

ok, just did a quick "technical analysis". there is really no major support for the Dow until 21700. now, that doesn't mean that it might not turn around TOMORROW. it could! buy buy buy! but IF it did, it would take something positive to make that happen. something more than wind from the forequarters of Trump. the first thing I learned, 42 years ago, about investing is this: NEVER FIGHT A TREND. not going to do so now. watching how this plays out.

Looks like the Fed will be dropping rates... There's so little wiggle room with rates... it looks like a rate drop will do little to nothing. Maybe I'm wrong.

I think it would probably help. maybe quite a bit.
I should add this to the discussion: the market was in full panic mode today. shares of gold mining companies were also caught in the downdraft, which is just plain stupid. many of them will report record income this year.
edit: stock market is up after hours. fairly significantly, actually. we will see if that holds up tomorrow.
it would not surprise me if the Dow was +500 tomorrow. "dead cat bounce".

That's what you get when you cut rates only because the man on the golden throne wants to extend his "winning streak" and not because there was an actual need for it

Plane flights are notorious for sharing diseases but at least the flights are SHORTER than cruises. Cruises allow plenty of time for well people to get sick and spread it around even more.

Presidents get to take credit and but also get the blame for how the markets do, even though they don't have a whole lotto control over it. Which is why he's grinding his teeth and trying to shut the CDC up about the virus.

Someone on TV said the 'r' word today. wouldn't Trump love to go down in history as a president who was impeached and who also had a big fat recession on his watch.

Apparently they will keep thousands of people on a boat for a long, long time. That's not really a fair comparison. If there are 100 passengers on a plane that are exposed to an infectious disease, they WILL quarantine the plane. In the cruise ship's defense, as it's essentially a floating hotel, the people have what they'd normally get in quarantine. The only problem with getting the people off the plane is that they'd have to expose a hell of a lot more people to the disease in order to get them to someplace more comfortable where they can be quarantined for weeks. The quarters may not be as nice as a cruise ship.

You need the people who need to be quarantined to be cooperative, which is a problem after a few days, and for everyone, including the workers to be 100% compliant with the procedures. Again difficult to do, especially as the time goes on. God only knows what went on on those cruise ships
