I’m buying like crazy. I took money out of my money market and gave it to my investment guy and told him to get buying while it’s low!!

DOW Futures look likely to trigger their 5% stop.
Trump talked then the markets all over the world tanked.
Tomorrow should be one of those interesting days for the DOW.

Futures is 5%. Then in regular trading it’s 7% then I think 12? And 20...

WHO just declared a pandemic. The market's screwed. Super fun game! Seems thematic. 😄 My brother taught my daughter to play it a couple of weeks ago. She loves it. I told him to buy for her bday in May.

It's been awhile, but my son and I used to always play this on our phones. You create a virus and set it somewhere and you "win" by getting it to take over the world before a vaccine is developed. It was fun back then, but now it might be a little too "real" to enjoy.

I've watched DH play Resident Evil for years. We should be able to survive just fine.

Where are all the stock market watchers today? Watching while I listen to the medical folks on the hill... Market Summary > Dow Jones Industrial Average INDEXDJX: .DJI 21,435.53 −2,117.69 (8.99%) Looks like Trump is winning again today... Once again, I predict 10K before the market is done crashing. A couple weeks ago I think people thought that was impossible. Still think so?

Where are all the stock market watchers today? This stock watcher is very relieved that most of my retirement is in cash. I moved my 401k to an IRA in mid-august and left it sit in cash. I felt stupid as it then surged and I missed out some. But I thought it wa overvalued in August and it was certainly way overvalued in January. I'm feeling extremely lucky right now. And very sad for anyone who was sitting in a lot of equities that is near retirement. These are some very scary times. And for the record, I was not that panicked about the Coronavirus until last night's speech and the analysis that followed. Based on the stock market reaction, I can see I am not alone. My daughter was supposed to go to Philly this weekend and then fly to Orlando on Monday. I've convinced her not to go.

Good call, Miss Tequila, on encouraging your daughter to stay home. The Player's Championship just announced after today, there will be NO SPECTATORS allowed at the tournament. Never seen that happen!

Where are all the stock market watchers today? Wasn't here much this morning, as DS had a doctor's appointment. But WOW, once I got home, it's worse than I anticipated. I guess not too many were impressed with the president's speech last night...

It’s only down 900 now? Not sure why it raced up 1200?

DAMN IT!
I forgot to go in and trade my bonds back again. I need to set an alarm because I refuse to do it until the bitter end of the day.

Just the opposite. You can take an RMD (which will be less as the total account value is less) and pay less tax per share to then leave the same share in a now brokerage account that switches from taxable income per the tax tables to long term capital gains. If things get really bad, I might roll over some IRA's to Roth IRA's. My number of shares will remain exactly the same, but I'll pay way less tax doing that in a dip versus a peak. If you stop looking at the value of the account today and simple at the number of shares you have, all of a sudden the emotion can leave and you can see how your will pay less tax per share doing a RMD or conversion in a major downturn. But: Required Minimum Distribution, you can roll over an IRA to a Roth IRA at any dollar value you want, at anytime. Equally you can take a distribution above the minimum and put that money into a brokerage account with a dollar basis of today, then you are limited to a 20% long term capital gains tax versus the higher regular tax brackets. Trust me, many people take more than the RMD simply to live on, as the RMD is really small as it assumes a ~102 year life expectancy as the table slowly adjusts over the years.

Ouch and double ouch. -2353. I see a lot of seniors here who still work, and it'd be really sad if more need to work just to pay for the basics.

Even AA munis at 7% were down. Talk about a gold plated and armored investment piece. Broker said it was because of margin calls. People were selling them because they were available to trade and they had little choice.

Asia still mostly down but Europe up and our futures all up. I expect bounces and crashes will continue for awhile.

The Dow is up 1100 points this morning, and my brokerage accounts are flying up through the roof.
Funny, even on Friday the 13th I can make money.

Nope, I'm riding it out. And like Zib FA I am buying more. MPL, I guess we just see things differently. I don't take any funds from those brokerage accounts, so up anytime is good. You only lose money if you sell while it's down.

Yeah, and you only make money if you sell when it's up! I see I'm down $100,000 in the past 2 weeks.
