Russia Backs Trump’s Re-election, and He Fears Democrats Will Exploit Its SupportA classified briefing to lawmakers angered the president, who complained that Democrats would “weaponize” the disclosure. WASHINGTON — Intelligence officials warned House lawmakers last week that Russia was interfering in the 2020 campaign to try to get President Trump re-elected, five people familiar with the matter said, in a disclosure that angered Mr. Trump, who complained that Democrats would use it against him. The day after the Feb. 13 briefing to lawmakers, Mr. Trump berated Joseph Maguire, the outgoing acting director of national intelligence, for allowing it to take place, people familiar with the exchange said. Mr. Trump cited the presence in the briefing of Representative Adam B. Schiff, the California Democrat who led the impeachment proceedings against him, as a particular irritant. During the briefing to the House Intelligence Committee, Mr. Trump’s allies challenged the conclusions, arguing that Mr. Trump has been tough on Russia and strengthened European security. Some intelligence officials viewed the briefing as a tactical error, saying that had the official who delivered the conclusion spoken less pointedly or left it out, they would have avoided angering the Republicans. That intelligence official, Shelby Pierson, is an aide to Mr. Maguire who has a reputation of delivering intelligence in somewhat blunt terms. The president announced on Wednesday that he was replacing Mr. Maguire with Richard Grenell, the ambassador to Germany and long an aggressively vocal Trump supporter. Great, let's have all the government agencies so scared they'll be replaced by Trump toadies that they soft pedal any information that might piss off Trump.

If Putin is willing to go at it again as far as helping the Donald get reelected...and this is a very, very savvy guy...then to have the Donald as the POTUS for four more years as Putin winds down his reign, means even with the loss of the weekend get away spots in the US and the embargos he has put on...he is the best one for that spot {President} from the Russian perspective. Being in his last turn in office too...with nothing to lose, no constraints on him..I believe that from Russia's standpoint, relations and concessions will only get better... As far as Donalds base and the GOP elected ones concerned, they will go along with what ever the Donalds doings are,,,he has nothing to fear... Oh woe the USA ------------------------------------------------------ "Intelligence officials warned House lawmakers last week that Russia was interfering in the 2020 campaign to try to get President Donald Trump reelected, five people familiar with the matter said, a disclosure to Congress that angered Trump, who complained that Democrats would use it against him. It is amazing to think that people might be influenced by the posting of the same message over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

On this board? As far as those who are active posters I would guess very few. You are aware of how majority of active posters here definitely lean hard left...but there are so many guests here, never or rarely post...who knows? I don't expect those tidbits the Russians put forth to have banners reading "this tidbit brought to u courtesy of PM Putin" much more subtle and will influence those who especially want to hear only bad things about Dems and good things about Donald and the right. Point is, they are interfering in our election and the really bad thing..being encouraged by one side...Their reasoning is , it's welcome as long as hurting the other guy.

Did you see how Trump was so furious that the intel head dared to tell the House that the Russians were messing in the 2020 election that he removed him? Maguire quit today, along with the second in command. Government lost two experienced intel officials today, and Trump replaced Maguire with some totally unqualified guy who bought his way into an ambassadorship. Whoopee, what a rush! the objective of the interference plan was NOT to make people vote for Trump. it was to encourage Clinton supporters to stay home. and it worked well enough for Trump to win.
oc is asking the wrong question. again.

Wrong...give em...For me, to far out on to many wants...I swing left but Bernie..? I am not that concerned with you. you can do whatever you like. but I think Trump should be very concerned.
from where I sit, there are two populists in the race. one is a right wing populist, the other a left wing populist. both are extreme. but only one will win. here is where the DIFFERENCES come into play.
who do you really trust to improve your life? to guard your freedoms? to protect our institutions? to defend you against the race to the bottom that is clearly happening in the US business world due to global pressures?
if you think it is Trump, then by all means vote for him. but clearly there is a better alternative.

Our paranoid 'president' has begun The Purge': Trump embarks on expansive search for disloyalty as administration-wide purge escalatesPresident Trump has instructed his White House to identify and force out officials across his administration who are not seen as sufficiently loyal, a post-impeachment escalation that administration officials say reflects a new phase of a campaign of retribution and restructuring ahead of the November election. Johnny McEntee, Trump’s former personal aide who now leads the effort as director of presidential personnel, has begun combing through various agencies with a mandate from the president to oust or sideline political appointees who have not proved their loyalty, according to several administration officials and others familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The push comes in the aftermath of an impeachment process in which several members of Trump’s administration provided damning testimony about his behavior with regard to Ukraine. The stream of officials publicly criticizing Trump’s actions frustrated the president and caused him to fixate on cleaning house after his acquittal this month. “We want bad people out of our government!” Trump tweeted Feb. 13, kicking off a tumultuous stretch of firings, resignations, controversial appointments and private skirmishes that have since spilled into public view. Article here: Trump embarks on expansive search for disloyalty as administration-wide purge escalatesIt would be nice to know trump's definition of "sufficiently loyal".

A good president maintains cordial relationships with other leaders of the world, communicates regularly, maintains an awareness of their current thinking and opinions. Too bad that Bernie won't be able to manage that part of the job.
That is one of the problems of 'lifer' politicians who have never held real jobs. In business corporations, leaders meet with each other to work toward mutually satisfactory compromises. The Left-Leaners seem to be missing that talent.

Donald Trump only attempts to maintain cordial relationships with authoritarian dictators, and fails miserably on the other things listed. Tweeting is not communicating. Dictating is not discussing. He alternately ignores or alienates our allies, and ends up being isolated or laughed at far more often than not. He maintains zero awareness of what others think because he doesn't care what others think. Bernie may indeed not be good at it, but Trump is horrible. If you believe otherwise you are even more off the rails than usual.

Letting a country interfere with our elections and having a president ignore their intelligence agency and not even look into it in order to maintain cordial relations is problematic.

How do you know? After all, you probably think Trump is and support him. That tells me you’re only off by 180 degrees.
