I finally admitted that I don't care even a little about the Superbowl. I didn't even know who was playing until the third quarter. And I may have already forgotten. Maybe it is just obvious this year because it was just us here. No party. Maybe I never cared, but since we have always made it social, I didn't notice that the game meant nothing.
Now that I have been making an effort to see the movies, I enjoy the Oscars. Years ago, I would watch the opening monologue at most, depending on the host. But since I never saw a lot of the movies, it meant nothing to me.
Oddly enough, I watch the Tonys as a way to make my list of shows I want to see.
But, if I never watch another football game, my life will be just fine.

I’ve never watched one. I took yesterday off and went into work today instead since I knew no one else would be around. It was dead quiet and was a productive day. Probably a bit sad that I would rather work than go to a Super Bowl party, but I’m okay with that.

I was in the bedroom reading, I know nothing about, nor desire to know anything about sports.

The only t.v. I have these days is Amazon Prime Video, so I didn't know the Super Bowl was this weekend until seriousthistime announced it in the Savers thread. It made me happy because I knew my Sunday evening grocery shopping would be easier with little traffic and stores empty of people. It was.
I've been to one SB party, but won't claim to have watched a SB game. I remember ~5 seconds of the entire thing--and only remember that because of the uproar that occurred in the weeks after. I was talking to someone at halftime. They had their back to the t.v., and I glanced over their shoulder at the half time show just in time to witness Janet Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction. At the time, it didn't register what I was seeing; only later did I realize what I thought was a bit odd was actually a "major" fiasco. That said, I grew up in Buckeye country and have 2 degrees from Ohio State. My dad went to OSU when he came back from WWII and went to every single home game from then until a few years ago (well, he maybe missed 2 games due to being in the hospital). I can still get a bit excited--and nervous--about an OSU-Michigan or BCS playoff game, but I have to record it, then call my sister to find out who won before I can stand to watch it Didn't you just break alumni law by not calling it THE Ohio State? 😝

I went to the Superbowl party at church last night, and managed to spend the entire evening manning the wine and beer table pouring drinks instead of watching the game.

Since my Patriots were not playing this year, and I really don't follow the NFL beyond them...have to admit had to ask kids who playing this year...decided to root for SF...Why? ?...Think I like the song.. "I left my heart yadda, yadda" ...... For some reason , the vocal on game came in Spanish..couldn't find how to change it...thank the lord for closed caption..commercials were English...Believe the commentators were for Kansas.....sounded like a soccer game.. " Goal.....Goal....Goal" turned sound almost off...but did watch game...ordered in some Chinese. Back in the day...once , never watched any of the leading hype during the week leading up to game or pre game...day of game was skiing in VT...slopes were empty, at Killington...got mucho runs in and then finished just in time to hit the Bar...get a bite to eat and watch the game...was very proud of myself... Can't remember which SB...or who was playing. My Grandson Matt works for NFL in NYC...dream job for him right out of school ...USC...he was at game....Was working hard weeks leading up to the game but loving it...and they pay him too... Big, big. big sports fan....played Hockey, baseball and soccer in HS but just a average good player but always loved sports. Was visiting once and at breakfast, was reading sports section with my coffee...mumbled under my breath the Marlins...my team , was living in S Florida, had traded their catcher...Matt looked up and mentioned his name. He was a kid, kid...and I was surpised he knew his name...player was nothing really special and Matt was a Red Sox fan..lived in Concord, Mass....American league...Marlins in National league...30 teams, no way he should know a catcher on Marlins... His Dad piped up after I questioned him...said Matt knows all 30 teams and Matt rattled them off..he and his Dad were trying to get to all major league stadiums while he was a kid, don't know how far they got...will have to ask, but always thought he would be involved with sports in some way ... He is very into them...a go getter..in college got to go to Korea for winter Olympics as a intern, also same with a NBA team and ML baseball team...graduated Phi Beta Kappa..Jr year and then got this NFL gig...special kid...Dream Job and meeting all the big ones...

We went to a Superbowl party, mostly for the social aspect. Most there were cheering KC, but a couple were rooting for SF.
I didn't pay a lot of attention to the game; focused on keeping Cass out of people's hair and catching up on email correspondence. I did enjoy the half time show. The children in lighted cages did not miss my notice.
Overall it was kind of fun...

I went to my neighbors' Super Bowl party. It was an opportunity to see some folks I only see at their parties and also to spend some quality time with my dog buddy. Also, they were serving nachos. I like nachos. And they always get German beer for me. And I like all the people at the party.
I didn't watch the game. I ate nachos, drank German beer, talked to nice people, petted my dog friend and her cat siblings, and had a nice evening. I was not entirely sure which teams were in the Super Bowl until the end.

I haven't had a team I've personally cared about in the Super Bowl for years. I just watch it for the commercials. I don't get it. People complain all the time about commercials, and try to watch "commercial-free" TV. Why look forward to seeing commercials during the Superbowl? They're still trying to sell you something.

Kansas City straddles a state line. It includes both the states of KS and MO. The stadium may be on the MO side of the line, but those of us in KS are very much Kansas Citians and just as much a part of the Chiefs as those in MO. Trump's still a dumbass though.

Everyone here watched the game since KC was playing. T2 was running a little late and commented that there was no one on the road since the game had already started. Debating going to the parade on Wednesday, but probably not since there will be so many people there.

The Super Bowl commercials are Special High-Quality Commercials, often featuring animals in endearing situations. Also, for the next few days, people will keep asking you "did you see the commercial with the armadillo/meerkat/squirrel marching band (or whatever)," and you want to be able to say you saw it (even if it was just on YouTube because you weren't paying attention during the game). It is one of America's most beloved cultural traditions. So is arguing with people who liked/didn't like certain commercials, but that's a whole other can o' cultural worms. Every culture has its weird traditions.

Many (maybe most) of the commercials will run frequently on TV after the Super Bowl. Very few are intended to be aired only on the Super Bowl. Part of the fun is the (deliberately) leaked hints about various commercials that adds to the anticipation and probably gets more people to tune into the game (even if they don't actually watch the game). We are a simple people who enjoy simple pleasures. It's probably a little peculiar, but maybe not quite as peculiar as something like eating fermented fish. Every culture enjoys something that other cultures are not going to understand.

Once upon a time, when it was our birthday, we used to get to go rent a movie and have full "I pick all tv shows today" rights. With one tv, five kids, and pretty much being the only day of the year we'd rent movies, it was a huge deal. I'd only ever know it was Superbowl Sunday, because the whole afternoon I'd lose my "tv watching" rights. So, that sucked. As I got a little older, I was able to get out of going to church that morning, hogging the tv until the game, then giving it up for the afternoon. This was the only reason I ever cared if it was Superbowl Sunday or not.
As an adult, I care about the Superbowl even less. I don't know who plays. Now that it no longer lands on my birthday, ever, I don't even pay attention to what day it is (though, if I realize it's that weekend, I try to do my grocery and other shopping while everyone else is home watching the games). I haven't watched a football game since high school.
Glitzy commercials and halftime shows still cannot draw me into caring, and I've never attended a Superbowl party (though I have taken my son to a couple when he was little, before he lost all interest as well.) I do not feel I'm missing out in any way, but try not to be a joy sucker for those who enjoy it (fortunately, I don't live with any of those people...)

You know that Dawn dish detergent, where they're washing ducklings, penguins and otters? The company intentionally covers these animals in goo while they stumble and try to walk, trying to see with paint and corn syrup in their eyes. It's shameful.

I thought we had another SB thread, specifically about the halftime show - or at least that talked about it more - but I can't find it. here seems as good a place as any. I saw this headline and just shook my head. 1300 snowflakes with nothing better to do than complain. seriously? FCC gets 1300 complaints over the halftime show

Chances are a number of those 1300 complaints were from people who didn't even watch.

So there are 1300 super jealous people? Even with an army of choreographers I wouldn't be able to move like that. If I could and on top of that looked like them I'd be dancing naked in the street.
