Then I can ask about 1930's decor. I wired the cash today and both the sellers and I did our paperwork. I move Tuesday and arrive at my new house on Wednesday. Somehow Art Deco doesn't feel like the real you.

I saw something about an “atmospheric river” crossing that area this weekend. Best to wait it out. There's no rain/snow in the forecast for Eastern Oregon until Wednesday. I may hit some active weather on the way up into Oregon on Wed, but it is what it is and it isn't the snow falling that's a problem it tends to be the ice when it starts to melt and refreezes. If I want to see my DS I have to go on Tuesday. The rest of the week he works until midnight.

Somehow Art Deco doesn't feel like the real you. I love the old art deco tiles. Whatever I do with the house I want to stay in the style of the house itself but also give it a more modern look. I plan to use tile and paint colors that will go with the history of the house.

Maybe you can find one of those salvage places that has construction and decorative materials from old buildings being torn down. They might have all kinds of fun things that would fit with the period of your new home. It will be fun to work out what you want and decide what is needed and then go questing to find just the right treasures.

I had not understood that it was your intention to forever isolate yourself away from all opportunities to find anything not locally available. I was thinking you might find yourself venturing out into the wider world at some point in the future on a trip or something and might have a chance to look for interesting things for your house. Clearly, I was mistaken.

MaryJane's all loaded, tied down, and ready for fun. I guess I will have to spend time packing later in the week since I won't have internet for a few days. lol

Were you able to pack and load everything you wanted and/or needed? I hope you take a few truck pictures because I'm curious how the wood rack you made turned out.
Bon voyage!

How soon do you suppose we'll hear about @shastasnewlife 's Adventures in Moving? Don't know. She said something about not having internet for a few days. Tonight she should be with her on and his GF. I must admit I'll be happy once she lets us know she has arrived. I have worried about her since the first try at selling her house (1 , 2 ? years ago). There was that documentary on tv about the area she lived and, while beautiful, it was scary sh*t

Tankless water heaters. My brother has them in his home in So Calif and likes them. With the need to plumb in new gas lines or electric wires, retrofitting an existing home for tankless water heaters is usually a lot more expensive than a conventional water heater. Yes, you might save a bit of money by not storing a tank of hot water. But, it will take decades to recover the additional costs of retrofitting a tankless water heater. Or multiple tankless water heaters, if you need one for each location in the house where you use water. Another thing to consider about tankless water heaters is that they can only raise the water temperature by a specific amount. Something like 30 or 40 degrees. They might work great in So Cal, where the water temp coming into the house is 60 or 70 degrees. However, I’ve lived places where in the winter time, the temperature of the water coming into the house was less than 40 degrees. I think a 70 degree shower is on the cool side.

Bad math/logic/argument alert! Yes. a 70 degree shower is bracing. A shower with water that is at 80 degrees fahrenheit is also a miserable experience unless the ambient temperature is in the nineties and you're trying to cool down.
But water at 30 degrees fahrenheit is usually referred to as ice.
You've really undermined your argument that tankless hot water heaters can only raise the temperature so much by choosing such a ridiculous starting temperature for the "water".

That's strange. I put a tankless heater in 20+ years ago, just one tank. It was easy and I've never had an issue with it not raising the temp to the one I've set it at. Nice hot showers for 8 people in a row. In the dead of winter even. With dishwasher running too.

I live in the PNW mountain region. Not subzero temps but not real warm either. It snowed yesterday.

Haapai, if you look carefully, you will find that I never talked about water temps of 30 degrees. What I did point out is that in some locations it is possible to have water temps that are below 40 degrees coming in to your house. And that if your tankless water heater is only capable of increasing the water temp by 30 degrees, the water temp at your fixtures could be as low as 70 degrees.

42 degrees here. Bathroom is steaming from DH's shower. I'm pretty sure that water was above 82 degrees. He likes his showers HOT.

Did @shastasnewlife tell us when to expect her back? I wish she'd find a wifi spot and check in.is She rather wisely did not tell us when she'd be able to check in again. And I miss her too.
I'm gonna give her some time. She may have to shovel herself into her new home, immediately fixate on turning on or keeping the lights and gas on, and have absolutely no time to find a library, McDonalds, or cop shop that offers free wifi. (Let's pause a moment and consider the name that she has given her truck. I love the name but let's at least admit that it may be an impediment to her parking MJ in the lot outside the local police station and updating us.)
On top of all this, she's hauling around a dog and has most of her personal possessions under a tarp in the back of her truck. It's gonna take her a while to unload that (ingeniously loaded) truck and get the dog somewhat settled. Things could get very hairy if she does not have utilities.
And she'll be fine
We just have to wait for an update.

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one dying for an update. Plus it won't hurt Shasta a bit to hear that we aren't the only ones. Let's hear from the rest of you. Let's welcome Shasta to her new life with a page or two of good wishes and encouragement. Not that she needs it, goodness knows that this transition is easy-peasy compared to what she's gone through in the last 18 months, but it wouldn't hurt to love-bomb her now.
