I was thinking about this when talking about buying or renting a place in Florida Do I need it, no, and how much do I want it. Hummmm
Then thinking when it gets right down to it, what do I actually really need. We do need new flooring at our home, its not critical yet, I can vac and make it look ok, just have to do often and I'm not having it cleaned again. It was likely done to much by the other owner, our carpets were kept clean and rarely shampooed, I think it does better. When we get done with the rental, I'm painting DD's room and trying to put down hardwood, hubs said he would show me how and I will see if I can do it. She really wants hers done first and that's ok. He has a bunch of stuff to do but will when he can get to it, but I want it done this summer.
As far as anything we need, honestly that's about it. In the years to come I will either need to get the couch covered or buy new. And I would like him to finish out the basement, other then that we need nothing. Wouldn't mind to put that flooring in the garage you paint in then put the stuff in it and makes a really hard finish.
What do you guys need to do or just want?
Now I know why I get so restless, I really have nothing to strive for anymore and hubs and I need things to strive for.

Speaking of a new couch ... we could use one. Ours is the pull-out sofa bed kind, and since we have a guest room with a bed, we really don't need it. I'd like to donate it and get one with a pull-out chaise lounge, or an L-shaped version so I can stretch out on it. The current one is too small, even for my just-over five-foot-tall frame. DH hates change, so getting him out to shop isn't fun.
I still compete as a swimmer, runner, cyclist and triathlete. I also still work full time, though I plan to change that this year. So I have a lot left to look forward to in terms of living. DH is not in good health, so striving for anything in his world is just exhausting.

I would really like to have a bit larger house. Now that DF has moved in the place feels very cramped. Maybe if decluttered a bit it would not seem so small.

I'm at the point that I have everything I need. I'm so grateful for that. But it can be a challenge deciding which of my wants to go for first. Right now I'm keeping my eyes open for some cheap vinyl plank flooring for the whole house.

I have everything I need.
I want an enclosed porch instead of my open patio so that no matter what the weather, I could still sit outside.
I want a newer car. My 2004 Forester only has 150K miles on it and runs like a champ. It will be around long after I'm gone. I just want a newer one. The newer Foresters "sit" higher.
I want a bigger place to live. There's nothing wrong with The Hovel. I'd just like to have more room.
I want new furniture. No reason. I'm just tired of what I've got.
ETA: And I want to physically separate The Hovel from DD/DSIL's house and move it at least a mile away. Either that or run away from home.

It's easy to want. With me, reality kicks in, and I go with needs. Okay, I am boring. Needs, all very personal.

It's boring not to really need anything. Like hubs said we would look forward to getting something, save, and plan and it was just so nice and enjoyable to get it. Now when you can just get most anything you want, its not as much fun.

I am also so grateful to not really NEED anything. DH just bought himself a truck that he has been WANTING, but he only really needed to spend half that on a vehicle.
But once you are our ages (almost 60), we are more of the mindset that if we can afford it and really, really want it, we buy it. We spent so many years going without while raising 3 kiddos and me not working full-time (until youngest in Kindergarten). Lived frugally for all those years, haha, time for self-care.

We very seldom need anything. Occasionally some clothing item and last week we needed a new hose for the sink, because the current one was leaking. We will probably need cars soonish, as they are 9-13 years old.
We just ordered a new couch and chair. It wasn't a need, but the old one is 10 years old and was never meant for this house. It is too big and brown. Next will be coffee/end tables and lamps.
DH wants a vacation home. We think about it and then think of all the added costs, maintenance, and worry. Then decide to rent a place for vacation, which we haven't really vacationed since 2017.

Hmmm.... the only thing I need right now is a working oven. It was even more crucial when the stovetop didn’t work either, but DBF taped the loose wires hanging from the oven and turned the power back on, so we can at least use the stovetop for now. Eating out and fast food got expensive very quickly.
Thinking about what I really need is kind of humbling. Even without an oven or stove, we still had the means to feed everybody, it just cost more than we want to spend. But nobody has/will go hungry, we have a safe, comfortable place to live, and DBF and I have decent and well paying jobs.
I have a list of wants that I could bore you to death with because it’s probably a mile long (we can start with my house not being fully furnished yet), but really thinking about this makes me feel grateful that I do have everything I need.
The only thing that might come close to a need is a riding mower, so we don’t get in trouble with our homeowners association when grass starts growing again. But even with that, we have 2 walk behind mowers we could get fixed and use, even though the thought of using a walk behind to cut our grass makes my soul shrivel a little.

Can’t think of anything I really need. For which I’m grateful. I want a new computer, an e-bike and to travel more.

We have a half dozen windows and a door wall, double paned, that are starting to fog so they need to be replaced. Just now starting to ask questions on who to get for what. I've heard so many bad things about 'Windows by Anderson' lately that have added to our experience many years ago that I won't even consider them.
End of summer the lease on my car will be up, and I'll never lease again. I will need to buy a car. Already have the make/model in mind and will have to find one. Hate car buying. Every sales person I've ever met have been shysters.
Other than that, our needs are met and wants are few.

My dad used to say, "Wish in one hand, sh!t in the other, and see which one gets full first." Guess I won't keep wishing for that enclosed porch...

The only thing I need is a new laptop. The letters are all worn away on this one, and I'm a hunt-and-peck kind of typist. This laptop is 16 years old.

I want my own house, which I will have in 3 years when I retire and move. I live in a very nice apartment, but I am beyond tired of sharing a wall with neighbors.

I was going to suggest replacing the key covers, but at 16 years old and with the state of coal production/availability, it's going to be increasingly difficult to get fuel for a coal-fired laptop. You should probably spend the $$ for a new laptop and just cut back on food

Admittedly, I have recently fulfilled a LOT of wants when it came to appliances. It was after all the needed home repairs. I got my pink house & every new appliance but a dishwasher, so I really shouldn't be wanting more.
With that said....lol I want hardwood floors throughout the main floor of the house. I want new carpet on all the stairs & bedrooms. I want a new set of headphones to go with my new (to me) stereo system. Even tho there's nothing wrong with my current headphones. I just found ones I want more. I want wooden blinds for the window seat windows, kitchen windows & for the giant stair window. I also want it to stop raining & warm up enough that hubby can get the fence repairs done. Tired of chasing the dog around out front when I let him out in the back.
But right now I want someone else to do the dishes & for my cat Boo to stop being a little asshole.

I have the money for a new laptop, but I hate throwing away something that still works.

I need a new cell phone. My old one is slowly dying. Because I hate to spend the money, I'll probably wait until it's literally on life support. I've got a long list of things I'd like to have, but don't need. Like, I've always wanted guitar lessons. And, if I sign up for lessons, I want a GOOD guitar, like a Gibson.

We really want more storage in the kitchen. We tried to find a hutch or something that was big enough.
So we are getting a brand new kitchen this summer. We cook and I bake so we have a ton of stuff that is regularly used and not enough room.
It's way cheaper to get cabinets than a piece of furniture that meets our storage needs. Gutting the whole room which takes up two thirds of the first floor is a want.

Okay. If I can't have an enclosed porch, how about a She Shed? And add a small greenhouse to my wants.

I want a person to clean my house, I have a number to call, just have to take the jump. But I have to get rid of all the clutter first and in doing that I also clean. But I told hubs the day is coming that I hire people to clean and don't want to hear a word out of him when I do.

And I just called Mike Brauns office to explain to them all his constituents in his district are not against impeachment like he said on Meet the Press and many of my friends and neighbors also called to tell them we do not support what he said. I wrote down my grievances because when I get angry it goes out of my head and I laid them all out. Also added, hope the guy, Bruan, doesn't get elected again. They didn't ask, but I gave them my name, address, phone number. Man was I mad, the idiot.
