This morning I was up early to take my truck to the shop and then walk home. I picked up mail at the Post Office and then, walking up to the house, realized the door to the porch on the second story is definitely broken. It's newer so the old owners must have installed it incorrectly because any wind and it blows open, even with the lock on. No one can really get UP there to break in but it lets in bugs and hot air.
So after my morning stroll I went up with some spare lumber and nail gun to secure it and keep it from blowing open. It should be enough to stop the wind but if there were an emergency and the porch was the only way out you could definitely break it open.
Oh and I swept about half of the broken glass off the porch roof from broken windows. Again, no one goes out there but with enough wind it blows down into my lawn.
Yesterday I finally got the cross boards I needed for the twin bed! I cut them down to size when I got home and set up the bed. Now I have space in my room to prime and paint the last 2 walls.
My personal reading challenge is also going well! I am working my way through a series of YA books and have now met my first goal and will double it for the remainder of 2020. Some of the things in the books are hilariously bad, like "here's $1 for your lunch" for a book set in the 1970s or "let's mix orange juice and coca-cola!" Until I get the truck working and home again, I won't be able to drive up and buy the materials for the bookshelves so I'll just keep reading and painting and planning until then. Fingers-crossed the truck will be done tomorrow!

Lucy has crossed the Rainbow Bridge I've been away from the computer for over a week and am just seeing this. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Believe me, I know what it's like. My little ChooChee crossed the Rainbow Bridge August 4. It was very sudden and due too a cardiac anomaly (genetic) we didn't even know was there. I was devastated. It happened right in the middle of other crises and, when it was all over, I just sorta fell apart. I'm just getting back to what I laughingly call normal. As I said, I do understand and feel your pain with you.

And she is not here. It's going to take me a while, too, but she will be coming home to join my other fur babies soon. We will be together forever.

We're going out of town for a few days. We have a family member having open heart surgery tomorrow. I'll take care of the young children and feed everyone. I hope you all have a good rest of the week.

[snip] Deck project check in: The outdoor rug (a pretty, blue ombre) arrived yesterday and the water fountain arrived this morning. Cannot wait to see them in place! The reclaimed, 100+ year old barnwood bench is coming from Amish country, so I'm not sure if they keep them in stock, or what the ETA is. The bench arrived! It's like they know me: There is red throughout, including the knot in one of the sides, and peeling red paint on the top. The peeling isn't a big deal, because instead of butts, the bench will hold artificial bonsai, my yoga dog statue, and the thrift store knickknacks I purchased a few weeks ago. The bench maker's website, in case you're interested: American Made TreasuresSo I'm half jokingly telling people they can blame me for the current wildfires. I finally found a reason to be excited about sitting on the deck (other than the killer view), and now cannot go outside. I set up the fountain on our kitchen counter, so at least I can enjoy that. I bought it on the Lamps Plus website and am very happy with it. The pump runs strong, and the LEDs reflect off the water, casting shadows onto the ceiling.

New windows will be delivered Monday, installed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Going to move some furniture on Monday, away from windows.
I got Lucy's litter box area cleaned up and to the garage to go with trash. Just could not do it Monday.
Now to get her toys and cat trees out of my bedroom.

Give yourself some time before removing it all. Gee, sounds familiar. I have DH's crap everywhere. My living room floor is covered in DVDs. I already sold off his CDs and will be getting lunch out of the deal too. I'll be happy to mail you the whiny ass cat if you'd like some company. She usually comes into the living room, stares at DH'a wheelchair and whines for food for twenty minutes. Then goes and plops down either in a kitchen chair or the settee in the bedroom.

I still hear and see Lucy.
I will have to get the cat trees out of the bedroom to get the windows installed.
For now, I will put her toys in a bag and later decide which ones to keep. She had some favorites and I will keep those.
I have at least one toy saved for every cat who has owned me.

Today I managed to get some of the furniture I need: a fabric cabinet, a bench and a TV stand. I need to clean up in the house a little and then get my neighbors help moving the tv stand and cabinet inside. Both are heavy and awkward.
I have a little more washing and priming to do in my room and I hope the paint I bought will cover it all. I also need to assemble my lawnmower and do the yard this weekend.

TheOtherMe, were you hit by that derecho? I saw that Cedar Rapids got hit super hard. No decluttering today. Yesterday, the BF and I put together a little shelf unit that I bought for the kitchen. I ended up getting this one instead of the other one. The wobbly cabinet will go out in the cat domain today, after the flooring guys get done out there. I'm SOOO looking forward to being able to put the cats out there overnight again so that I'm not having to clean up poop every morning. Well, I'll still have to clean up poop but it'll be off of vinyl rather than carpet.

Not where I live. We had rain but not the winds that devastated Ceder Rapids. They don't expect to have all the power back for 5 to 7 days. Downed trees and power lines everywhere. I feel so bad for the people.

Yeah, I think it's gonna work out really well for the time that I'll be using it i.e. until I redo the whole little kitchen. I have, maybe, six feet total of linear counter space and my microwave takes up a good portion of that, as do a basket of potatoes and my collection of spices and olive oil. The wobbly cabinet has three feet of linear space that will be replaced by the baker's rack. My spices will go on the top most shelf of it and the potatoes will go in the little basket of it. I just hate that I have, quite literally, no counter space next to my stove. On that wall, it's just the stove, a cabinet above the stove, and the fridge. That's it.

I got the lawn mower assembled and did some of the backyard. It's pretty hot out there so I basically just mow a section every time the dogs go outside to pee.
I have been moving empty boxes upstairs and I finally got one of the boards removed from the top of the stairs. Why they would install a 2x4 directly into the wood flooring is beyond me. I'm lucky I didn't trip over it.
Even though it's only been a month it feels like my progress is SO slow. I do have some painting to do tonight in my room and I bought the shelving for my office so I can get the 20+ boxes of books out of my closet. I'll need to paint the wall and take out the baseboards before installing them but that'll be my goal this week.

Hugs for TheOtherMe and mmhmm! We've FINALLY got DS's room put together, although he does still need more hangers, and I haven't found some of the things that used to hang on the walls. We've still got a lot of boxes to unpack, and I suspect some boxes may have gotten mismarked, or placed in the wrong area by the movers.
