ok - second consecutive night of bad sleep. catching up with me for sure!
for my recent paper disappointment- I think my best bet is to source a few articles about method X and try to find a way to finesse a reason for not using it in this particular context. Then send it out to the journal as planned. Yes - that idea came to me at 2 a.m. while I was trying to sleep and not think about it!
The article I sent - my status just changed yesterday from "reviewers assigned" to "under review" I don't know what that means exactly - but I'm excited!! Something is happening! At the 2 month mark now and average first determination is at 45 days, so certainly behind that and not unexpected due to covid. This particular journal likely has many physician reviewers.
Kitchen exploded past few days. rest of house doing okish. Will wait and see if someone else cleans the kitchen....heading to the yard to do my yoga and try to clear the cobwebs.

How long are the younguns staying Debt?
Rukh O'Rorke at least till late June. They are hoping to go back to UK for the rest of the summer at that point, and DS1 is still applying for jobs in the US. They would rather be in the UK by the sea for the summer, but if they do that, they will need childcare. We have offered but DS1 diplomatically said they're sure we'll need a break LOL. I know that DDIL has barely seen her parents, and hasn't seen her DSIS or new nephew or friends in many months. So I totally get that that's a priority for them if they go back to the UK. Plus I agree, we'll all need a break by then! I'm guessing DDIL's parents would step in first, and we could go a 2/3 weeks later. We could also stay with DH's cousins part of the time. paynointerest I've never posted a photo before ... Jaguar used to do it for me.

Does anyone deal with that in their own mindsets? Reminding yourself that you don't have to fill up the space just because it's there.
nidena DH has this mindset, sort of. He's not spendy, but he has a LOT of difficulty getting rid of things. We are both children of war parents. His parents both lived through the Blitz in London, my parents were both Holocaust survivors. The article I sent - my status just changed yesterday from "reviewers assigned" to "under review" I don't know what that means exactly - but I'm excited!! Rukh O'Rorke my guess is it means they actually sent the articles to the reviewers they assigned. As you know I don't do any research, but I work closely with two professors who do. From what I can see and from what they tell me, there isn't much rhyme or reason to the timing. Some reviewers probably have more time than others, and depending on who's reviewing it, the process can take more or less time. Just as an example, my newest professor student requested me because she knew I was helping a colleague edit her PhD thesis. (You know that these are non-native speakers, unlike you.) She mentioned that in our first class in Oct. I said, no problem, I'm very happy to do it. Both articles finally came back 6 months later, one week apart. I'm afraid I don't really know the details of the process, just that Y told me, I need you to help me with the English on these. And this was BEFORE Covid.

The time to contest dad's will expired yesterday. I just called the probate court and my half sister did NOT contest the will. She said it's now in the queue to be signed off by a judge and then the funds can be distributed.
Strangely enough, Dad got mail today that was forwarded to me. Turned out to be a notice from his old phone company that they have filed for bankruptcy.

My parents grew up in the depression and always had a difficult time getting rid of things. I'm happy about some of the things they saved, but so much of it is of no use to any of us.
I'm particularly bad about sentimental things, as was my mother. I've never had problems getting rid of an old tv if I buy a new one, but I don't buy a new one until the old one dies. I do have too much stuff and need to work on getting rid of it. I did have to replace Lucy's litter genie and had no problem tossing the old one. I can fill my trash can next week with stuff that is in the garage right now.

Back to the country house and set up the water feature yesterday. It’s a solar powered fountain for the bird bath and small enough to float in the water. Super cute and will keep the water from going stagnant and becoming a mosquito breeding site.
Today I had to pick up more transmission fluid for the truck, some prescriptions for my mom and I’m going to look at some plants before I head home.
I am making good progress on the quilt and would like to get the yellows done by the weekend.
Monday I have an eye appointment because I desperately need new glasses. Depending on the turnaround time I will probably get sunglasses x2 and regular frames. I am hopeful they’ll come in before my road trip.

Hi there! I'm behind a few pages, and wanted to check-in. Taking care of both DH and my chores continues at the house, and I drove him to doctor appointments and his errands yesterday. We had good conversation while driving around, though I was tired by the time I went to bed. Over the weekend I did the usual laundry and dishes, filled the bird feeders and bath, restocked towels, napkins and TP, changed sheets, took out the garbage, cleared off the main counter, took a grocery inventory, planned this week's suppers, made iced tea, and processed produce, boiled eggs, and salads for the week. DH taught me how to work the Traeger smoker so I could grill Memorial Day supper. For fun I managed to read an entire magazine cover to cover and we watched a few movies. My latest decluttering project is my cassette tapes - I have several hundreds. So far about 80 are leaving the house via two separate friends. If there are no other takers, I'm going to see if a record store will buy them. A large shoe box and basket have been emptied thus far. The most rewarding: A few weeks ago, I put a shout out asking for clothing in specific sizes for a family whom I've known for several years. Today they came by and picked up 6 bags of clothing and shoes, and a small bag from me containing never/rarely worn socks. Every girl deserves to have new clothes, even if they are new to them.

That such a kind thing to do Iggy!
TheO I am so glad your Dad's will won't be contested. I'm sure that's a great relief.

I've just found that every day I'm in this apartment (and back when I lived in the one room of the house in Iowa), what I NEED is really very little. There are things that I go to use and realize they're in a box so I have to wait to actually use them and, while making meals, there are things that I know that I would use if I had them but if I can live for eight months (lease is up in October) using only certain pots and pans, do I really need the other five that are buried in a box?
Do I really need a full set of guest towels and washrags? (I don't currently have any, I'm just typing this to remind myself). People don't care what the towel looks like so long as it's clean and, for the most part, will wrap around them. Beach towels that are on-hand will do the trick, no problem. We just get so caught up in keeping up appearances. I know the flip side could be that by having nice guest towels, it indicates to our guest that we considered them in our purchases but, if we rarely have guests, I don't think it's a big deal. And, really, do you want people that snobby to be your friends?
It's funny the things we hang on to. I still have an E.T. pencil that my brother got for me when he went on a school trip to San Francisco back when the movie came out. That was 1981. I've sharpened the pencil but I've never really used it. lol.
I have tons of pictures of my mom's family and think to myself: Will my brother's kids care enough about their history to want these down the road? I'm hanging on to them until they're old enough to actually make that decision but those are the things I think about. I don't have kids of my own and don't, at the present time, have anyone to pass things down to so I feel like there's no point in hanging on to most things.
Just thoughts I'm pondering right now.

I really feel like I need more mentoring at this. One fault I will give my program is that only one professor really worked with us on this type of thing, and they retired early while I was there. I never know if I'm doing the right thing! Hopefully - I will learn as I go along. But now I can really see why some people don't pursue publishing!

Rukh maybe you can contact him or her to ask for advice on a typical timeline? And, really, do you want people that snobby to be your friends?
nidena guilty! We have guest towels. It's not because we're snobby, it's because both DH and I live abroad, and having close friends and family stay with us is very important to us, and we want our guests to feel at home. If we don't want them here for a while, we don't invite them. What's snobby to one person may not be snobby to another. That's why personal finance is personal. That also explains why I just pulled the trigger on two night tables, even though that was literally the last item on my to-do list for the guest room. With the convertible couch there was no room for night tables before, but with DS1's bed, now there is. I found them on FB marketplace, from a guy who builds furniture from driftwood and apple crates. The night tables are basically vertical apple crates with a shelf inside. DS1 said, I love them! But you're not really going to pay 50 euros for something you could do yourself, are you?! I told DS1, well I COULD do it myself, but we all know I won't. If YOU'D like to, I'd be very happy to cancel the order! LOL. They are 30 euros ($33) each, or 50 euros ($55) for two. I think that's a very reasonable price for two quirky wooden night tables! ETA: This also probably means I won't go to Ikea this weekend, because I don't want to change too much in their room this trip. I know what they want done, but I feel it would be intrusive for me to change too much while they're inhabiting that room. If they go away for the weekend again, I'd probably empty the dresser then. Am I overthinking this?!

Am I overthinking this?! Debt, I acted in a similar way when my mom was going to stay with us for a few days when we first moved into our prior home. She had a class to take in our county, so it made sense for her to stay with us instead of driving back and forth. From Target I purchased two low bar stools to act as a night tables. I also purchased a new floor lamp with two lights, the lower one adjustable to bend over if one chose to read, etc. at night. I also bought matching wooden hangers for the closet. We still have these items, and they are in our current guest room. Since then I added a cute table from the second hand store to serve as a coffee/tea station, and a different second hand table from a friend which act as a place for folks to set their belongings. Inside the closet is a portion of our former closet organizer, one of the 9 cube storage cubbies, also purchased from Target years ago. It holds extra sheets and pillowcases, and the top acts as a shelf. Over the years, I've added items we already had: a small garbage can, mirror for inside the closet, really cool yin and yang beverage coasters, clock radio, coffee mugs and small coffee maker, small table lamp for the other side of the bed, candles, and a tissue box holder. I call it the Sunset Room, since it faces spectacular sunsets. It is one of the rooms our friends stay in after our semi-annual parties. Safe partying is the best kind of partying.

So I've been busy lately, but not really accomplishing much lol. One thing I did finish was my nightstand project. It turned out pretty good and surprisingly I didn't need to put much time into it. I was thinking I'd try to post a couple pics if you all would be interested.
Other than that, I've got most of my garden planted and STILL painting.

I don't think someone is snobby if they choose to have x, y, or z. I think their friends would be considered snobby if they looked down on someone for not having x, y, or z.

Rukh - I have previous experience with reviewing journal articles and publishing. The process of finding reviewers who are knowledgeable in your paper's subject area and who are willing to do the review can take time. Reviewers assigned means they finally identified people with the expertise and willingness to review the papers. Under review means that they reviewers now have access to your paper and references to read and provide feedback. The timeline given to the reviewers will dictate how long the process takes from there. I was always given 2 weeks to turn my comments in but I rarely met the deadline and I believe that is common because people are so busy. Good luck!

I'm hitting a wall.... Not sure what direction I should go in life. Upset that my "sell everything and live in a van for a few years" escape hatch is off the table these days.... Rukh -- I totally remember thinking the same thing when I was writing my doctoral dissertation and papers that were published from it. Keep your eye focused on the prize and you'll get through this!

We have soooo much stuff, last year I got rid of a lot but there is tons more. I think if its raining tomorrow instead of mowing I will attack the garden shed. I had so many Xmas decorations for Texas and I no longer use them. All our garages need cleaned, I have work to do at the house in town. I hope I continue with feeling better like the last 2 days. If I can get back to somewhat normal I can accomplish what I have not been able to for the last year or so.

I got rid of a trash bag full of bubble wrap this morning. We had saved stuff at one point for a friend who was selling on Ebay.
My SIL needed some to pack up a kitchen. DH dropped it off to her this morning. I need to see if someone would take the packing peanuts. It's probably doubtful right now with the virus.
Goodwill briefly opened for donations and shut back down because they got too much to sort. So I'm still piling stuff up.

CCL I love that nightstand. I would like something similar to put into my "guest" bedroom. Very rarely do I have ever have overnight guests, more like grandkid nap time, which doesn't happen that often either.

Thank you! I've had it for at least 20 years. I really wanted something updated, but when I looked at the new ones they just seemed kinda "cheap." This one is very solid with all the oak, so I figured I could update it instead. Saved a bunch of $$, too.

I feel very silly checking the status online on a weekly or more frequent basis. 8^) I will be completely crushed if I get a total rejection! ok - I will rally! And try other pieces. So much work! I have to focus on that I am continuing to learn within the literature, and I am developing my writing skills.

Went to put on a pair of sandles this morning. I immediately ended taking them off and putting them in donation. No way would I be comfortable attempting to wear them so away they will go soon hopefully.

I found the old Tell City furniture for our guest bedroom. Finally got it all from a store where the old folks kept watch for good pieces, not trashed ones. They were not cheap but worth it. I have a dresser, with multiple drawers, a chest, head board, and 2 night stands that match! Tell Citys furniture is interchangeable, it goes with all their pieces. They no longer make it. I have 3 other end tables of it and also bought some for DIL. She has a desk, chair, 2 end tables and a sofa table. It's lifetime furniture. I'm not sure when they quit making it, in the 70's or 80's?
I found a chest for my kitchen that is Thomasville, solid wood, they quit making it too. I guess the good furniture companies could not compete with foreign made cheap. I don't buy new furniture well except for beds and upholstered pieces. The lady that sold us this house let us keep 3 gorgeous pieces, a storage chest, a gorgeous TV unit that just fit into the recessed space they created for it and my china hutch. They also had the table and chairs made. We gave full price to get that furniture plus recliner and couch. She had put a ton of time if selecting these items to fit the house and they did. They are massive and heavy. She later regretted it as she could find nothing comparable. I'm sure those pieces cost near $30k. One is a leather Queen Anne recliner with the nail head trim, the couch is 7 or 8 foot long. If we ever move, will be kind of like her don't think we can move them they are all so heavy. Well the couch may be history by then.
Today I took all my winter stuff out of my closet, to move to the basement. I also bagged up a trash bag of clothes to go. Need to do more, but told hubs not sure if I can find good clothing anymore, so will just keep them, they fit. I did order a sale pair of slacks from C & B and they just fit, DD has a pair coming too. I need to hit her closet and remove her large clothes. I will pack them away, I hope she doesn't regain but if she goes off that med she could. She weighed 171 this morning so down a few more pounds. She is also doing the treadmill daily. Doesn't do much but anything is better then before.

Going to vent here. As mentioned in a prior post, DH is down. He had rotator cuff surgery and has the use of one arm. This was my yesterday: Got ready for work, including iced coffee, breakfast and lunch Made sure the coffee maker for DH had water because it's awkward to try and fill it with one hand Arrived at the office on time-ish Coordinated my dad's schedule with mine as he'll be in the area on business Checked in w/ my sis about mom. Long story. Worked 8.5 hours, which included lunch interruptions. Back after being out for 4 days made the day extra stressful Bought groceries, DH's RX, and picked up the mail Lugged in the groceries (DH helped w/ the lighter stuff) and put them away Rinsed cherries and carrots and put them into a container and baggie for DH to snack on
Played a round of Words, made supper, watched a bit of TV, checked in w/ DH about his food intake for the day and his day in general
Peeled a grapefruit for him and wrapped it up for today
Gave DH his meds and vitamins (opening bottles w/ one hand is difficult) After putting Vaseline and socks on his callused feet per doctor's orders, I asked DH how they felt fitting wise. His response? "Not bad for mismatched socks."
I looked him square in the eye and said, "So fire me. Seriously."
He then mentioned the empty tissue box (it's inside a decorative box and difficult to get out). I filled up his CPAP w/ distilled water, fetched another box of tissue from the back pantry, opened it and set it near him, and went to bed. He's sleeping in the living room for recliner/arm position purposes.
The joke this morning was as soon as I saw his feet, I gasped, pointed, and said, "Mismatched socks!!!!!" He told someone he knew at the liquor store the other day he'll be out the rest of the year. My life flashed before my eyes. It's going to be a longgggggg rest of the year. I'll modify my behavior and handle the extra stress by not answering the phone during my lunch break, and asking my dad about visiting his condo this summer. I'm also going to put DH on emptying the dishwasher duty, as that can be done w/ one hand. Thank you for listening and for being here, ladies.
