Well, regardless of whether or not you believe in climate change, we're setting new records for heat in Florida. This area isn't supposed to hit the 90's until May, or occasionally in April. We've had a bunch of 90 degrees or higher already, and they're warning that this year's hurricane season could be interesting, as the ocean never cooled off as much as it usually does. Speaking of packing (and leaving) this area, I'm still filling boxes, and doing my best to be organized. DH is being an even bigger help than he has in past moves. He's a good helper, but he knows he's stuck with the burden if it isn't mostly done by the time I leave. DS & I leave here two days before the moving truck gets here, so that we can be at the house to meet the truck when it arrives. Praying that the drive goes smoothly, and that they don't block off any major highways I need to drive on to get where I'm going. We DO have a Plan B: DD can meet the truck if for any reason we get delayed. TheOtherMe, I think you're wise to stay far, far away. DS & I are hunkering down for 2 weeks when we finish our journey. It may disappoint some of our family, skipping holiday gatherings, but safety first!

Well, regardless of whether or not you believe in climate change, I was amazed at how covid19 was immediately treated as climate change, jr. by the right. Will no science ever penetrate that camp? Do they honestly believe that the entire world is in league with the democrats - and the anti-science US GOP are the only ones privy to the truth? It boggles the mind! That my own family is under this spell is both ludicrous and embarrassing for me. How - why? I look for genetic flaws.....

I'm afraid way too many people are so firmly planted in their opinions, that they won't change them unless they're smacked upside the head with the consequences. Even then, some will deflect instead of recognizing the truth. Sadly, sister and her family may be getting smacked upside the head. One presumed COVID-19 case and not isolating is asking for trouble. Niece's family of 4 has two high risk people.

Yesterday DD sent some strawberries and raspberries with the kids. These weren't grown on the farm but the farm has a contract to repackage them for distribution in the local area. The kids ate some yesterday and then she left the rest for me. This morning I went over to Mom's as I hadn't been over there all week. I have talked with her every day but hadn't actually been to the house. I took that fruit to her and she was quite pleased, she ate all the raspberries while I was there. I spent a couple of hours visiting with her while we watched The Property Brothers. She was glad for the visit and I was able to check that she is more or less keeping up with things. I also picked up her current grocery list, took the garbage out, and went and got the mail.

She is crazier than I thought, but she told me I am the crazy one. That's not crazy. That's stupid, irresponsible, and bad parenting.

Rukh new job sounds great! Maybe post your job questions on the job thread? From the little I know, getting articles published doesn't happen quickly but I could be wrong.
About the folding table ... you should have a place to fold laundry in your house without having to set up a table each time. But you're making progress, so that's great!
Sharon, it sounds like your mom is doing better and requiring less care.
Good luck with the packing Busymom!
This weekend - build Job 2 writing course - Shitepile
ETA: Looks like my Amazon order for DIY masks (NOT medical masks) was cancelled again. We went to the local minimart for more veggies this morning (we keep running out). We saw our next door neighbor who was wearing one. I told him we couldn't find any, so he kindly put a few in our mailbox! We only need them to go to the store. (I've been wearing a scarf over my face.)

Good to hear you and yours are doing ok and able to do some shopping!! What are DIY masks from Amazon? confused as DIY would be like a paper towel wrapped in a bandana?? What is DIY that your order? I guess I'm kind of avoiding the job thread....I think I feel a bit guilty having a job and having another prospect.....like - the world hasn't crashed. Yes - publishing can take long even outside of this current reality. Those was a notice about keeping to regular timelines for peer reviewer, etc. but that they are flexible and anyone needing more time should just ask. But - I finally got something 'done' enough to send. So - I would have at least a good sample to share and say it is out there....will see how long the feedback process takes. I was intially worried about getting it done as I spent 1-2 hours redoing the abstract. for the laundry table - it isn't a folding table - our old kitchen table that had the legs removed for taking down to basement. Been wanting to set it up in the laundry area for a while so final got to doing it yesterday - but couldn't find the washer and nuts for the legs. Usually - when taking off the legs you'd put them back on the legs for safe keeping - and then I think I remember using those when we got a second hand new DR set. It didn't have the washer and nuts, and we used from old table. In years gone by - would have slipped off one set from the DR table and taken a nice walk to the local hardware store and spend $5-10 on replacement pieces. But that isn't the world we are in anymore I'll poke around in the basement for odds and ends and then order something if I don't have any pieces that will work. more coffee - then reading around a bit....then reviewing todays todo....I am behind a bit, but the kitchen miracle is sure helping

Rukh O'Rorke it's (understandably!) illegal here for individuals to order surgical/medical masks these days because there aren't enough for medical staff. "DIY" masks are for people doing DIY work around the house. They're not medical grade, but they're better than nothing. The masks my neighbor has are from when he took art classes years ago.

Debt, I wondered what they were, too. I thought they were some sort of kit that you could sew together to make a mask, lol. Sewing groups are starting to create masks for others who need them. Even some healthcare facilities are starting to use them! I guess the thinking is anything is better than nothing. It's hard to believe it's actually come to that.

Oh, we have at least one of those masks from when we first moved into our house. I can't remember what we were doing that was so dusty, but I remember how hot and uncomfortable it was to wear them. (They're a thick felt.) I tried to send my dh to the store with the one I found anyway. No cigar. He said I can go next time. He found tp, but always tends to go overboard on something.

- 2 hours on report - oops
Sunday
</div></div>ok - the research piece is becoming even more urgent! if in fact, I can absorb that. I'm so done out as it is already. As I haven't taught in a while - my employment with the university was terminated and I will lose privileges June 10. I've reached out to see if I can get a course to teach or delay the loss of privileges in some other manner. Otherwise - I will lose the online library and can't visit in person anymore either! So - if I don't get some kind of extension on that - I will definitely be working everyday, and long hours, until June 10th so that I can make sure all my outstanding research gets updated in context with recent research and I have a hope of sending it out. I feel like this extra piece of stress is the last thing I need, but maybe it is what I need to get done what needs doing? Obviously - I am delinquent on the most important thing I needed to be doing for my career...so, I need to ask myself why? Especially - as I enjoy that piece quite a bit. In November when I was getting back to research, I thought the piece I just sent out was an easy spit and polish and out the door to see what the journal said. But I ended up putting about 200 more hours into and adding about 30 additional references. But then again - I struggle with what all this really means in today's world. Trying to keep with the program and hoping someday this is in the past and things that used to mean something will again. I did use some ginkgo yesterday!! Think I will do so again to help focus and concentration. Still on a boatload of herbs to keep the coronavirus symptoms low. Also - want to spend a bit of time in the yard today. Was so fresh and warm yesterday - which I found out when I picked up our mail on the porch at 8 p.m.!

Definitely ask for an extension as an adjunct lecturer. As a PHD alumnus, you might want to ask about permanent online access. It really is something that should be given to you as it is so helpful, especially with publishing. I know my state university makes it available to me and I only have a BS.

I'm so excited, it was starting to feel like nothing was ever going to be finished, like ever. I did ask for the extension - but I've been told previous asks were denied. Maybe the current social isolation will make them more likely to extend? But advisor said not to count on it. He also said - hey - where's that paper?? So I got derailed into a different one than I thought I was doing today. But - ok - sent on to him and he will need to submit, so - hopefully he will send on today and that will be two out the door? This paper was previously submitted and was on revise and resubmit so hopefully ticked the boxes and will be put through. We alumni have kvetched about the lack of support for our research post-grad. It is important for the program for us to be visible and publishing and I'd happily pay a couple hundred a year for library access. But. No. Not an option. I know lots of schools do provide alumni with access - maybe even free? - but not available at mine, unfortunately. Welp - this potential access loss is going to be keeping me on my toes anyway! 2 down! 8 to go!!!

Rukh this might be a stupid question but are you busy at work right now (I mean your main job). Could you take a couple of days off to get caught up on the rest? I've gotten as far as I can with the new course for now. I have an appt to talk about it tomorrow. I'm struggling because it's new, and it doesn't lend itself to online teaching. I'm teaching every day this week (including Friday) so my goal is just to get through the week. I'm also getting a ton of marking but it will wait. It's not like I can go anywhere. This weekend- build Job 2 writing course/Sun ongoing- Shitepile/SunETA: We just received our vouchers for the cancelled Boston flights. We got nearly 85% back. For non-reimbursable tickets, that's pretty good. They're valid for a year. ETA2: We also scored some toilet paper when we got the veggies. Lest anyone think I'm hoarding, packaging is much smaller here, so it's either a 4-pack or a 6-pack of the small rolls.

I don't think you are hoarding. I've seen European packaging.
That said, my dad would happily have bought one roll a week if he could have found toilet paper in that size. It was a constant battle to get him to buy a 12 pack. He also always waited until he was on the last few sheets to mention that he needed toilet paper.
I was trying to be productive today. I have some state bowling tournament schedules from the 1950s and 60s from when my dad bowled in all of them. I thought I could just put them out with the recycling tomorrow. I looked at the first one this morning and found his name. After spending the entire day pondering what to do with them, I'm not ready to let them go. They go back on the shelf.

Reporting in from the couch where I am accompanied by 4 very snoozy dogs and am slowly recovering with a back that is full of bruises!
I am feeling well enough to travel this week and since my hotel and flights have not cancelled I will go, be cautious and keep a mask on! My cold is nearly gone, just a bit of a cough left which might be from staying cooped up indoors for so long.
The bank recorded my mortgage payoff today (over $100,000!) and it so surreal to see that balance at zero. I’ve been messaging with the new owners and they sent me a pic after moving in and it is WEIRD. still happy with my decision and happy to see if this dreamy home I picked out will work for me.
There are few neighbors here at my parents house, lots of food and toilet paper and very little work responsibilities so it’s been a relaxing couple days minus the falling and hurting myself.

Hi Kids! DH had to work today, but this evening both he & I are loading up & marking boxes. All the dust we're stirring up is messing with my sinuses, but I'll manage. There have been so many rumors here of the possibility of the state border getting shut down, that we want to be ready in case I need to leave town early. Last night, the police were stopping ALL traffic entering our state, and issuing warnings to 3 different states, including New York, that once inside they need to quarantine for 2 weeks, or they will be facing stiff penalties, including jail time.

RUKH -I cannot believe that your alma mater is so short sighted as not to give it's PHD alumni online access to their library. The more their alumni publish the better for them and their reputation.
If you get cut off in June you might want to officially petition the university for access. You might also talk to the head of the dean of your school, the head of the library, the academic VP and even the university president. Maybe take a sec to write a brief memo on why it would be beneficial to the school and PHD alumni to have online access.
I think it's just fantastic that you got two of ten off your list. Good luck!

Iggy aka IG -- Check your PM Just a quick pop in to say hello. I overslept today but guess I needed the rest so I am ok with it. It is not as it I had any plans to go anywhere. I did leave the house on Saturday to walk in the park. Everyone was spread out and practicing social distancing so it was ok. May do it again later this week if the pollen eases up some. I talked to my cleaning company this morning and we agreed to skip next month's visit. Agreeable on both sides so I glad she contacted me. Need to get my day moving so I will sign off now.

Did some laundry and little nit noid stuff on Saturday. Yesterday, I slept the day away, trying to get back on real sleep schedule. For some reason, I was staying up until 3, 4, 5am. I was up, this morning, at 8:30 and plan to hit the hay before 10. Filed a bunch of invoices, called the Delaware utility companies, and digitally signed the last couple things for the house today.

I'm exhausted and so relieved. I tried really hard and hope it is all correct. I planned to blow them out of the water with fantasticalness - but I had to just do a pretty good job. Hope they come back in 2021. Tomorrow is another day! See you all soon for coffee

Talked to one of my bosses yesterday and have basically finished designing the new course which starts Thursday.
I had to give my availability for Job 2 yesterday. With everything going on, Job 1 has STILL not given us much info. I wrote to Big Boss and got just enough info that could make an educated guess about Job 2. Job 2 asked me to continue doing all day Wed so I said yes.
I can't wait for this week to be over (25h on Zoom).

Cleaned up my kids closets yesterday. Put away papers from last years' school year - just a little bit behind with that . But, better late than never. I'm working from home today decided not to go in the office - even though there are only about 6 people there - out of a 50 person office. I might go in Friday to do a few things I can't get done from home. Hoping to continue to do little things around the house. I went to the grocery store this morning at 7. Very few people there and I was able to get everything we need for the next week to 10 days. I must admit, going to the store is freaking me out a bit. I wore a mask and gloves and took a shower as soon as I got home. Put the coat and gloves in the washer along with clothes. Put all the plastic bags in the enclosed patio to sit for a few days. I didn't want to throw them away because I use them for doggy poop. Take care everyone - stay safe.
