shanendoah [Q1]: $6,537.28 3/10/2020 (Goal: $5,040 3/31/2020) ROTH [Q1]: $5,000 1/1/2020 (Goal: $1,500 3/31/2020) Savings [Q1]: $1,537.28 1/10/2020 (Goal: $3,540 3/31/2020)
My big accomplishment right now is that I've managed to over a $3600 car repair bill, a $1200 vet bill, and $1000 to C's cousin without pulling money out of savings and not stopping ROTH contributions. I have halted additional contributions to regular savings, but that's okay. We do have $7500 in savings in total, so we're doing pretty good.

NastyWoman - I should note that doing this meant that the tax refund and the escrow refund from refinancing our house went straight into those bills. But the skipped mortage payment actually went into the ROTH.

The RE agent called tonight ... my heart sank.
Turns out all is well! They're drawing up the first set of papers, to be signed late next week or early the following week.
Fingers, toes and everything else still crossed!

With all this corona virus news, all I can think of is how thankful I am for a stable job and money in the bank! When I think of all those people in the sports and entertainment industry who aren't working right now, it actually makes my stomach flip around a little. I just had a cd mature. I was trying to figure out what to do with it and had some ideas in mind, number one being to fund my Roth from last year and this year. I'm still going to do that but I was also trying to figure out if I should put more back into a cd, high interest savings account or what. Now I think I'm going to keep some just sitting in my account.
Unless they close the hospital, I don't think I have to worry about not getting a paycheck. I hope all of you are in a stable position and are feeling healthy. Wash your hands and don't pick your nose!

Well things are rather scattered, hectic and grim right now for me.
The Good -- My kitchen is looking good and I am only waiting for a few cabinets and the template for the countertops was done on Monday. No idea when they will be made though. But I have a mostly working kitchen that I could cook in if I had to. But since everything is still packed up I have been doing more finger foods and drive through every other day.
The Hectic -- Work has slowed down quite a bit. But we are dealing and will make it through and my job is safe.
The Grim -- Dad is getting worse day by day. I will be seeing him on Saturday and have several questions that I have written down so I won't forget. Due to Corvid and the Pandamic only me and my best friend will be with dad when he passes. My state issued a mandate that hospice workers could no longer be inside a private residence. So I was originally asked to mix and hand my dad the medicine that he would take. I died inside and felt like I was kicked in the gut when I finally understood that I would be assisting him in going out with dignity. After my breakdown I called my best friend and she has offered to be with me and to do the medications so all I have to do is be there with Dad as he falls asleep. I spoke with Dad and he agreed that it would be good for me to have someone with me. Right now I just don't know who will win in this race, Dad on his own terms or the cancer. We don't have the medication yet and are not sure when the pharmacy will be contacted to make it. I know it will be sometime at the end of this month beginning of next.

Dear Snap, You are in my thoughts. So very hard, but the most precious gifts we give can be the hardest. I don't know your BF, but I love her and thank her for being with you.

Are you in a state where there is assisted suicide? I agree with assisted suicide but I could not give my parent the drugs either. I'm glad a friend will be with you. My heart breaks for you. I don't know what hospice is doing here about patients in their home.

Oh Snapdragon: I'm so sorry you're going through this. I was with both of my parents when they passed (with assistance from Hospice) but I didn't have to go through it alone. I wish I could do something or say something that would help. I don't think I'd be going out on a limb to say that you have the support of the board and that we're all thinking of you.

snapdragon - Very sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm just happy he has you (and you have your friend). So many elderly are facing this alone. All this savings tracking seems kind of meh with everything crumbling around us and all the hardships we're currently facing and those to come. But it helps me to stay focused...so March update it is. Fund | 2020 Goal
| Current | Needed | % Complete
| 401K | $15,000
| $5,105 | $9,895 | 34.03% | HSA | $7,100 | $1,657 | $5,443 | 23.34% | College | $1,900 | $600 | $1,300 | 31.58% | IRA | $500 | $500 | $0 | 100.00% | Pr. High School
| $500 | $300 | $100 | 80.00% | Vacation | $500 | $0 | $500 | 0.00% | Christmas | $500 | $0 | $500 | 0.00% | Total | $26,000 | $8,262 | $17,738 | 31.78% |
MPL 3/19/2020 $8,262 - Goal $26,000

Hi all - Tobinikui here, checking in for 2020. This year has been a doozy for us so far, January and February saw our kids with a combined total of 4 stomach bugs, 2 week long flus, a nasty ear infection, and the ramp up of where we are now. DH works in security for a major metropolitan hospital, so we are just doing our best! Not sure how someone works from home full time, while parenting 2 kids under 6, with a DH right in the midst of all of this, but we are doing the best we can, given the circumstances. I don't think I've ever hit my savings goals, in any year that I've participated, however, I'll give it another try this year. I already revamped them lower. The priorities for the year are the Taxes, Insurances, and our Retirement. Due to my DH's new job that started in January 2019, our tax bill for this IRS season has jumped up drastically. I've already adjusted our tax withholdings for this year, so that we won't be in a similar situation this time next spring - but I have to admit, having the tax filing/payments due pushed back a few months will definitely help us! My biggest frustration lately though, is that I put a down-payment on a vacation in late July, for $$995, and I am sick to my stomach that 1) we spent that money just before the world came to a halt, and 2) that we might not be able to go, and 3) I don't think we'll be able to get it back. Never in a million years did I think life would shut down the way it has! Time will tell. Thankfully, we have an emergency fund to cover us. Account Name | Goal | Saved | Spent | Remaining | % Saved | Retirement | $45,500.00 | $10,025.38 | $0 | $35,474.62 | 22.0% | Loan Repayment | $10,500.00 | $0 | $0 | $10,500.00 | 0% | ER Fund | $6,000.00 | $5,005.01 | $0 | $994.99 | 83.4% | Christmas | $4,000.00 | $0 | $0 | $4,000.00 | 0% | Random | $1,000.00 | $0 | $0 | $1,000.00 | 0% | Car Repair | $2,000.00 | $0 | $0 | $2,000.00 | 0% | Vacations | $3,500.00 | $246.96 | $995.00 | $2,258.04 | 35.5% | Taxes | $7,200.00 | $1,631.13 | $170.00 | $5,398.87 | 25.0% | Insurances | $4,560.00 | $1,317.93 | $1,583.00 | $1,659.07 | 63.6% | Stone Steps | $7,000.00 | $0 | $0 | $7,000.00 | 0% | Total | $91,260.00 | $18,226.41 | $2,748.00 | $70,285.59 | 23% |
Tobinikui: $20,974.41 on 3/22/2020 (Started w/ $0 on 1/1/2020; Goal: $91,260.00)

We were paying extra each month on DH's new vehicle, but not now! Holding onto every dime. DH is not working for at least 2 weeks due to 'non-essential' business.

Update: Resolution 03/25/20 $8000 (Goal: $35,000)After a lot of thought, I decided to continue with all of the retirement savings, but I won't be adding to the regular brokerage account until we have a better grasp of how our finances will look with COVID related shut downs. The company that my husband and his brother work for is still open, but they may be shutting down within the next few weeks. If that is the case I will be the only one working in both households, and might need the extra cash. I may resume investing in the brokerage account if they actually pass the enhanced unemployment benefits that are currently proposed, or if I get a better feel for how long my husband's employer will stay open. I know that DH and I have job security through the end of this semester, plus we are at the point in the semester where we started teaching the extra class we teach each semester and so our paychecks are getting a "bump" for March and April. I'm taking advantage of that to be aggressive with our retirement savings with the discounted stock market. I may add more to my retirement account for the April paycheck and then bring it back down after our teaching gig is over.
I've heard that the university we both work at is having to take a hard look at the financial situation and departments are being asked to look at options to reducing spending -- and one of the things they should consider is furloughs or even layoffs. I don't think that I'll lose my job, but I could see that they would increase my teaching load.
I guess it remains to be seen how much damage shutting down businesses in some regions of the country will affect the overall economy when the COVID 19 curve flattens (and hopefully goes down).
I hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and you or a close friend or family member does not get it. This is a tough time.

A bit of a backslide this month. We just had to pay almost $1k this morning to install a new pump for our well. I could have paid cash, but I had also scheduled a vacation to see my brother, which was obviously cancelled because of the coronavirus. So that money is tied up in a Southwest airfare credit. Wow, how things have changed in the past month! DH got a quarterly bonus the beginning of March that we had planned to throw on the new truck loan. A few days later he was laid off (due to being a non-essential business in our state). He filed for UC for the first time in his life and has heard nothing in 2 weeks. I am employed by an essential medical practice, so things have been a night-mare for me at work. DH is doing everything at home, but pretty much going stir crazy as he is one to never just sit. Needless to say his bonus is now in savings.
One thing I may do is lock in the HELOC balance we used for the truck, interest rate now at 3% after a teaser rate of 1.99%. And I finally looked at our retirement accounts and faced the music! Ughghghg........
So this looks OK, but who the heck knows after all the dust settles! Hope everyone is hanging in there during this difficult time.

I feel like I'm catching up. I will be putting what I get of a stimulus check into my roth, and hopefully I will be able to put another 1500 or 2000 in it by the end of the month. I want to buy when the getting is good. I spent close to another 250 at Home Depot. I bought most of what I need to tile one of my bathroom floors. Only thing left I need is grout. I plan to do another bath if this one goes well. I started with a larger more awkwardly shaped bathroom because it is out of the way. But I plan to use nicer tile in the other so will probably be about the same amount of money. Some folks at work lost their jobs in the last few weeks. I also heard that all of the contractors are being let go. I don't expect any immediate impact, but I highly doubt we will get bonuses this year.

Pluggin I'm sorry about your DH's layoff. I've been teaching my full teaching load on Zoom, but the 3 sets of orals for prospective students have been cancelled. I usually make 4-5K doing those orals, and was planning to use 2K of that money to hit my goal of 10K in savings. That won't be happening now, but I know I'm lucky to have an income right now. Also, all RE transactions are frozen for now, so no news about the sale of the studio either. Stay well everybody.

Dad passed on his terms on Saturday. Everything is really up in the air right now for me.
I am now working 20 hour weeks but my job is safe. Work is sharing the cost with UE on this one. My kitchen has been stalled so not sure when it will be finished.
I am holding on to money just to be safe. There is the possibility that I will end up using some or most of my semi-liquid funds to pay the bills.
It has been too cold to finish painting the dining room but it should warm up enough next week so that I can do that on my work days off.
Everyone take care and be safe.
Snap~

Snapdragon, you are on my mind and in my heart. I'm glad you are here. Though we are all somewhat anonymous to each other, the caring is real and genuine.
