Plugginaway22 08/01/20 $22,451 ($12,000)
2020 Saved Goal

July 6965.00 1000.00 subTotals 22,451.00 12,000.00
Another month of low spending, high savings. My bonus from 2019 that was payable by end of 1stQ was put on hold in March and I didn't really expect to get all of it after COVID hit. They paid it out in July so that was awesome. We also did not owe the 3k federal tax bill I guesstimated. I did order the dishwasher so hoping that arrives soon. Wish I was planning the big trip I dreamed of for the year we turn 60.
Like someone above said, 'We are on the fast track to retirement' and that remains the focus. Our retirement accounts/net worth are at an all-time high. If only there was a magic thing called affordable health insurance...

Well I have a RE Agent and Dad's home will be on the market by the end of the month. I will be so relieved when I no longer have to drive out to "check" or deal with the house.

Payroll deductions for 403b/457b did not take effect in July even though I got the paperwork in in plenty of time. I adjusted those goals because I am (probably) not going to mess around trying to change those deductions multiple times to play catch up.
Some of the 1500 "added" to ST to spend was actually spent on my new computer/peripherals and office chair. Didn't move anything else to savings as I wanted to rebuild a bit of a buffer in my checking account after missing 2 paychecks between jobs.

Transferred $1k ($500 each) over to my experimental investment accounts today. Learned that I had about $1600 in an account left over from my childhood. My father had been contributing a small amount to it monthly for many years, so I had just been ignoring it. Well, he stopped contributing a couple of years ago, so they reached out and said - hey do something with this or we'll give it to the state. So they are sending me a check. I can't really count it as new savings, because it was already savings. But at least now it will be where I can see it.

Geeze it takes money to be able to sell a house. I am paying I am not sure how much in total (5K?) to get the house ready to sell. I know I need to do it at the price point and area the house is in but it makes me sad every time I look at a estimate or know how much something is going to cost to get done. I don't have the time or experience to deal with this right now and mentally I am getting drained. Once the house is Pending or Sold I will be taking a vacation so I can de-stress and relax from work and this.
Plus I need to bake a boat load of cookies as appreciation and thanks for a few of the people who have been helping me tons. They wont accept money so baked goods are the currency of choice. Chocolate chip and molasses cookies are coming up in the future.

Well the house has been cleaned.
Landscaping in the backyard is complete.
Painting should be finished. Or he is finishing up this morning.
Stagers arrive this afternoon.
Photos being taken tomorrow afternoon.
The house goes live on Tuesday after the photos come back.
I plan on swinging by the house this weekend and shifting some more things into the garage just for peace of mind.
Really hoping I can get the car gone by the end of next week.
Can I go hide in a corner yet?

Seriousthistime [3], 8/21/20, $7,950 (Goal $25,000)
I crunched some numbers the other day to see how much more I need to have deducted from my paycheck for income taxes. crunched other numbers to figure out my cash flow for the rest of the year and decided when to increase the deduction. (It will be around the end of September.)
In the meantime, I'm spending a bit more time and money trying to get my house and garage organized and in order.

Hey all! Time for some savings goals again. Now that the house is sold and my CC balance is down to $4000 (which is considerably better than the $23,000 (on two CCs) that it was before the house enabled me to pay most of it off), I can put some focus on savings. So, in order by which I want to save for first: 3-6 Months $6,000.00 $446.24 Cruise 2021 $8,000.00 $404.77 IRA-Rollover $120,000.00 $10,103.00 Total $134,000.00 $10,954.01 <snip> 3-6 Months $6,000.00 $1,015.26 Cruise 2021 $8,000.00 $538.34 IRA-Rollover $120,000.00 $10,443.24 Funeral Expenses $3,000 $100.00 TSP no goal $838.31 Annuity no goal $5376.27 (will be transferred to a different account Mar 1st, 2023) Total $137,000.00 $18,311.42 3-6 Months $157.29 (I don't remember why I took funds out but I know I've been building it back up) Cruise became Home Improvements $722.89 IRA-Rollover $11,728 Funeral Expenses $100 TSP $921 (made goal $10,000) Annuity $5,388.85 Total $19,018.03

Well I am in a gloomy mood... Due to Dad not taking K off the title of the house after she passed 5 years ago I can't legally put the house up for sale until I get the approval from the court. I am basically becoming her PR and having to do both estates at once. I felt like crying last night when I got the news. We are still hoping to have permission by the end of the month to get it on the market. So just really bummed out. This is a damn inchworm situation. I would hate to imagine how this would be if I had kept to the old lawyer and not gotten a much better one that communicates. So Please keep in mind that if your spouse passes away and their name is still on the title for property if you pass without doing due diligence and getting the name off you create huge issues for the person dealing with the estate. Or at least in my state -- please check by-laws where you live. Actually the more I think about it the more ticked off I get at my Dad for not doing what needed to be done within a year or 2 of K passing. This has really brought out FEELINGS. LOTS OF FEELINGS.

I missed last month, but here is the latest update. We had to pay out over $8k for clearing our land, getting our building permit, etc. And yet, we still haven't closed our construction loan because banks are sooooooo slowwwwww. Whenever we sell our current house, I plan to hold back about $10k to put back in savings to flush out the EF.

August Updates
Current Goal Change
Savings/Efund. $8,418 $10,000. $0
Vacation Fund. $1,000 $3,000. $400
Total. $9,418 $13,000. $400
Flamingo, 8/28/20 $9,418 (Goal $13,000)
Well, I'm getting back on track after last month. I don't know if I'll hit $13,000 by the end of the year, but I'm getting closer! Even if I don't hit my total, having a goal to work towards is helping me not spend quite so much on frivolous things which is a win. DH and I are going on a mini vacation next week, but we have the money set aside in our joint account for it, so our vacation fund won't take a hit. We have maybe unnecessarily complicated our banking, LOL. But, we have the money, so once we get back I can look at our CC statement and pull the money to cover it.
It's not going to be a glamorous vacation, but I am so excited to get out of this house for a few days. We're going to a nearby lake and I cannot wait to get my toes wet and drink an adult beverage on the shore.

Payday deposit of $1375 and likely last one for July. DH's paychecks have officially stopped as he has used all his PTO except one week, so he's now unpaid. Thankfully, our budget numbers look good and this likely means we will just put less in savings. We're still not spending as much as normal because we're not leaving the house much. Back to school expenses will hit next month. Tried talking to the kids about using the same backpacks and raiding the school supplies around the house and then making a list of only what they really need to buy. Got shocked faces at that one. Backpacks are where they pushed back the hardest but the ones from last year are in decent shape. We'll see - not sure it's worth arguing over since we can afford it. 7/24/2020 Azucena $19,511 of $30,000 goal (65%)August update, too busy to split it up. Forecasting Sept, our savings rate will slow down, and we'll start to notice DH's unpaid leave of absence as we wait out the pandemic since he's higher risk. Mostly because we resume paying private school tuition for DD8 and 11 which is $1060/month. Fortunately it's a hit to future savings (ie treading water) instead of losing ground. We may go ahead with home improvements and a long weekend or two which could lower our savings rate even further. These will have huge mental health benefits so the tradeoff is worth it. Looking into 2021, since I work for a life insurance company who is paying out pandemic death claims, I can pretty much kiss my annual bonus goodbye and likely my raise as well. I recognize that it's a total first world problem, but I'm putting in even more work hours because of the pandemic and this is the year I'm on some high profile projects so it's a bit of a double whammy. 8/28 Azucena $20,549 of $30,000 goal (68%)

Plus I need to bake a boat load of cookies as appreciation and thanks for a few of the people who have been helping me tons. They wont accept money so baked goods are the currency of choice. Chocolate chip and molasses cookies are coming up in the future. Throw in some peanut butter cookies, and I'll be right over to lend a hand

UPDATE! August 29, 2020
My supersaving mode is still in effect. Last month we met the goal of funding $10K of DH 403b supplemental retirement account . This month I met the goal of fully funding my 2020 Roth IRA ! I'm down to meeting the goal I set for my 457b account. I spent the money in my property taxes account to pay taxes this month. I'm thinking about starting a new race with that category to get ready for next year.

Classes start this week and I'm teaching remotely using Zoom rather than be in a classroom. Week 1 went well, I hope I can help the students maintain their momentum 3-4 weeks in. We get no breaks until Thanksgiving and it will be a hard push.

Jenpen, 8/30/2020, $45,007, 93% (Start $895, Goal $48,550)
Just chugging along. Shifted some of the excess LT savings to Roth and Taxable accounts. With that and my payroll deductions 2 days ago, I hit a milestone of >$500k in investments (taxable + retirement)!

Not much new to report. I took a little vacation and paid for it all in cash. I had a new roof put on my house that I can also pay with cash. I am anticipating needing a new A/C at any time. Once I get that replaced, unless there is a catastrophe, I shouldn't have any major expenses related to my house because everything will be less than 5 yrs old! My last two goals are on their own timeline and will be met by the end of the year. I'm proud of myself for sticking with it! Next year I probably won't include the 403b because that's passive saving versus bigger saving goals for other areas. Stay safe and healthy!

Chocolate chip and molasses cookies are coming up in the future. Throw in some peanut butter cookies, and I'll be right over to lend a hand I completely get that! They are one of my favorite and easiest to make. But those weren't brought up and I am not sure if anyone has a nut allergy so I won't go there.

Snapdragon Update 9-01-20 - $8506.11 / $9500
Car/House $ 4004.32 / $5000 Savings $ 4501.79/ $4500 New Totals $ 8506.11 / $9500 Another inch closer. Maybe if we get bonuses I can make my Car/House goal. Hoping that approval comes in from the court so the house can go on the market.
