is having a retirement party today.
I'm very sad he's retiring. He hired me for my first real big girl lawyer job, and took a chance on me when nobody else would. He recommended my current assistant/secretary to me, and she was a godsend. Even though I stole her from the Bishop, it's worth the trip to Hell. His comment, "I can teach someone to practice law, I can't teach them to play nice in the sandbox."
He trusted me with some cases for my professional development where I was doubting myself.
He warned me who to watch out for, and who was decent.
He introduced me to the right people.
He did me a few professional solids over the years.
I'm gong to miss him.

Be sure to tell him all of the above. I would put it in writing in some form if you think it would be appropriate!

Congratulations on having a good one.

Some 20 years after my mentor retired, we are still in touch. He still gives me great advice, albeit now personal advice since we are both retired.

If you or a group of you are thinking about a retirement gift ........ Look at 'Day of the week' clocks. We have ours in the bathroom and it helps to remember what day it is.
Good mentors are hard to find .... you will miss him
