I just signed up for a subscription box from thred up. I'm curious to see how it goes. But the point of it is to send back the items you don't like. And avoid shopping.
I've also always wanted to do the clothing rental sites but just haven't been willing to fork out the money.

Thanks for the reality check on clothes shopping! I haven't been in the trenches much; if I need something casual I go to Marshall's, if I need to dress up I mostly make do with what I have or splurge a bit on Karen Kane or Amour Vert; both try to use sustainable processes and Amour Vert is made in the US. Haven't bought shoes in ages; I walk barefoot around the house and know what size I take in Birkenstock, which so far has been consistent about sizing so I can order it on-line. I have plenty of dress shoes in neutral colors and classic styles; they're well-made and I don't wear them very often so they'll last forever.
I know what you mean about inconsistency in sizing; the more expensive an item is the smaller the size on the label compared to other brands. and somehow I wear a size 8 when I used to wear a size 12 at the same weight 40 years ago. And, now that people mention it, I remember looking in the windows of ultra-fashionable stores and seeing only a few samples of each item on display. It may be that mass merchandisers are doing the same and really don't have that many more in the back. It maximizes the number of styles you can show and it's probably more attractive to shoppers. There are undoubtedly people with pretty fancy degrees and computer models making these decisions.
Shopping for clothing isn't as fun as I remember it to be.
