I heard an interesting question on the radio this morning. What would your younger self think about your life now?
Me--not much. I didn't have big plans laid out for my life, but I expected more than this, and sooner. The hubby and kids are good, though.

I have no respect for that little jerk's opinion so don''t care what he would think.

My younger self would be pleasantly surprised. I'm 66. I remember my grandmothers at this age. They had fluffy waists and wore sensible shoes. I'm lean, I go to the gym every day, I swim, bicycle, kayak and snorkel. I have a sex life. I always wanted a high-powered career and while I never got past middle management I loved what I did and it provided me with a good retirement. I've visited more countries more times than I ever dreamed and I'm not done yet. My grandchildren give me more joy than I ever thought possible. Partly hard work but some luck and the grace of God, too.

My younger self would think I was a sorta 'hip' old foggy! My grands are still surprised by me a few times a year...what I say or what I do or what I send them.

That I am still alive. But that surprised quite a few. Lead early years in bed fast lane so some times I am surprised too

Be a bit wtf. Didn't go to law school, still living more or less where I grew up, picked more of an easy career path than high powered, still fucking single.
Lol makes my life sound horrible, but I just chose a lot of different paths. No idea on the still single part though.

Shes old, fat, and boring. And what’s with the kids and husband? Cute dog, though.

justme, you either? I had lofty ambitions. One of them was law school, not that I actually wanted to be a lawyer, I just wanted the law degree. My younger self would be pissed that I didn't even finish an undergrad degree. My younger self would also be damned surprised that I'm still alive. That is, that nobody murdered me.

Did you see The Wolf of Wall Street? Yeah, they weren't kidding. The 80s were a time of unadulterated excess, in everything. I regret nothing!

I didn't because by the time I was finished with undergrad they were pumping out too many lawyers that many were doing paralegal work. Went and got my MBA instead and they paid me to get it so I guess it worked out well enough.

I just farted around. Got married. Quit school with the intention of going back "someday," had kids, etc. The only other thing I really wanted to do was be a hoofer (with an "f" not a "k"!) but not enough talent and bad arches and marriage and kids and... Another thing my younger self would say "potential and $2.50 would get you a ride on a MARTA bus." I'm an "almoster." Almost did things. You paying attention, giramomma? Don't be an almoster. Get the PhD so your younger self won't haunt you.

Would be asking why I don't have a PhD and how the heck did I end up married with kids? Why didn't I run off to U of I without DH (then fiance) career was supposed to come first!
There is a part of me that realizes in another life I'd be a neurobiologist but then in that other life I'd be clawing for employment with all the other PhDs right now.
I've had my career lumps lately but I'm in a good spot now. I'm also despite the issues glad I changed my stance on marriage and kids.

Shocked as hell that I became a CPA. Never would have saw that coming! I was born with girl parts so my destiny per my family was to get married, cater to my husband’s every whim, and populate the earth. My hopes for the future were the opposite.
My younger self would be pleasantly surprised I ended up where I am. Self-sufficient and not dependent on a man, no kids, good career, almost own my home and vehicles outright, pretty secure in my future. I’ve cut myself off from toxic relationships, family or otherwise. I can go out into the world and get as much human interaction as I want with relationships, friends and travels. When I’ve had enough of that I can retreat into my home surrounded by pets, books, cups of tea, and all sorts of crafts and other interests.
Younger me would think that’s pretty awesome. I probably need to remind myself of that when I start getting upset about how some things in life turn out.

I think my younger self would be fairly happy. One thing she would say to me is "stop spending so much time on the computer and read more books." And also "Why the hell aren't you living in London?"

My younger self would be very happy where I am at financially but would be sad to know that I made a huge error when I selected the man to be the father of my children. But overall I turned out to be what I wanted to be...fairly financially successful, independent as hell and with a very close knit nuclear family (just with a different man than I married).

Pretty sure my younger self would look at my wife and just assume that I had won a large sum of money somewhere along the way.
It kind of depends how young our "young selves" are. My 12-16 year old self would probably think "wow, you're doing great, you kissed a girl and everything?". My 18-25 year old self would probably think "no drinking? no more tattoos? no weed? Wow you really sold out narc".
For all of my overplanning tendencies, I never really had much forethought into "what will my life look like when I grow up". I never worried much about a career or anything, so never really had a lot of expectations...I just always assumed that whatever I thought at the time would be much different once it was actually 5-10 years in the future.

For all of my overplanning tendencies, I never really had much forethought into "what will my life look like when I grow up". I never worried much about a career or anything, so never really had a lot of expectations... This was me. I never had a defined plan, just kind of imagined I'd end up with an ordinary life one way or another. Married, kids, some desk job. Check, check, check. I'd probably be pleasantly surprised that I managed an art degree and to travel a bit. I'd probably be disapointed that my planned global altruisim never came to fruition. I've always intended to join the Peace Corp or something similar, but have never been able to take that leap. Donating to UNICEF isn't really what I invisioned. The biggest shock would be that I married someone from hometown. I HATED hometown and thought 90% of the people in it were, boring, small-minded hillbillies. Turns out I was the one who was being a bit small minded. I could have had a lot more fun in my youth if I'd gotten to know people better.

gs11rmb, it's nice to almost have a neighbor. See? I'm an almoster! DS lives in VaHi. I used to go down to visit often, but the drive from here to there and back again anymore is intimidating and nerve-wracking. It's either I75 or 285 to I20. Enough to strike terror into the heart of Mario Andretti.

I rarely go OTP because I hate the traffic so much. My youngest just started taking an art class in Smyrna and that's a white knuckle ride of 75N to 285 on a Saturday morning. The thought of driving that route during rush hour...
