Finally over the 800K mark in retirement again. It hit that for the first time in November of 2021. I hate to think of how much money I've thrown in there since then to get back to where I was. Mortgage - $74,980 CC debt - $4993 Total Debt $79,973Cash and Savings - $54,623 529s - $65,405 Retirement - $806,452 House - $300,000 Total Assets $1,226,480Net Worth $1,146,507 (up about 3.5%)

now it's my turn to be salty over over savings! I got my big Rukh, Inc. payment, as some of you may remember I had mentioned. I loved seeing that big fat balance in my checking and had so many *hopes and dreams* about it, lol!!! Now it's all gone already! Ibonds, then just got word from tax people I can put over 5k into my sep-IRA, so doing that. was expecting about 3k.....putting in the max raises my fed refund by 1k! (was getting 1.4k back without the sepira) now it is 2.5k....and I'm putting it into additional.....ibonds.... Meanwhile - I own on state! was 900 before sep, now 700. so investing that 5k into retirement saves me 1300, so definintely a no brainer.... but I splurged big thinking I'd have a few k to myself but i dont! lol! will be crambling to pay credit card now.... too crazy. 12.5k ibonds, 5k into sep ira....1.3k fewer taxes...I know its for the best, now I'm gonna have to belt tighten for a bit.....

stocks on sale not working for you anymore? I'm not 100% sure the real sale has hit yet! LOL! stocks on sale - but a clearance could be around the corner? We are building our positions(!), and if it goes lower, we will just have to be happier about it than we are now. I tried to give myself a pep talk on an evening constitutional......thinking I've put 17.5k extra "into" the systems that be, meaning that hypothetically - I've increased my ERI (emergency retirement income aka sudden unemployment) by $700/year. It didn't help as much as I thought it would. Feels like it should be 700/month!

I think I'm just getting burnt out. I wish I could go back to where retirement savings and planning was just kind of going on automatically in the background of my life instead of being front and center.
I reduced my 401K contributions by 12% and got an 8% raise. The effect on my paycheck was...meh.

yeah, it's easy to burnout. I stopped watching everything but then it hit me in the a@@. I need to figure out where it goes all over again. I know the assets keep going up but my monthly cash flow is always in trouble half way through the month. Ugh

Yes - it is hard to give up the tax benefit of maxing 401k - because so much less going into accounts, but that is not all back in your paycheck! But count me in the burnout club. I join you in rethinking life. One of the things I realized on my contemplative walk yesterday was that I am trying to build up safety, after so many decades of scambling around finances, I am trying to feel safe and secure but I don't have enough funds to do that, being in a HCOL area with so many dependents (of the feline variety! and I will not let them down.....but between indoor and outdoor, I am spending about 900/1k/month on chewy.com). So I put 12.5k into ibonds - and it hurt to let loose the money! - and yet that wouldn't even cover me for 2 months in a crisis! and then I worry if the next bull market is years and years away and so I just really can't buy myself the level of security I am wanting and I need to rethink things. Sidebar: Before the pandemic, DD was bartending at a small place with just local regulars. One of the regulars was some guy who had a crush on me in HS and who I had run into at a party after HS and went out on a few dates and then we lost touch when i went to college or something. I can hardly remember details really. This was discovered as people at the bar were talking about what HS they all attended, DD and the locals went to the same HS, and DD said my mom went there too....and wierd connection revealed! So this guy told DD to tell me....He had a good pension! LMAO! Like - all these years later Anyhoo - yesterday - even before my walk, feeling somewhat overwhelmed thinking about coordinating all the house maintenance and upgrades I'd like to put in before retiring...and I text DD - "what was that guys name who told you to tell me he had a good pension? I'm reconsidering......" Just a joke. I think......

guess I will do my update today anyway - and start afresh tomorrow! Was kind of wanting to have my new ibond purchase and ibond interest included, but I guess it 1- doesn't make good "accouting sense", and 2 - is just a drop in the water on this month's losses anyway! Potentially - will also have the extra 2.5k ibonds into the mix by the next monthly update..... Cracked below 1300k again, tesla down again! AA 95/0/5 Closer to target, but.....it's because of stock losse, lol! not the way I want to accomplish that!!

AA 95/0/5 Closer to target, but.....it's because of stock losse, lol! not the way I want to accomplish that!! What is your target? I'm thinking 90/0/10 for a final figure - with the 10 being Ibonds, treasuries, and cash. I can't get any info on Ibonds are "officially classified" as bonds - but what I've found calls them cash equivalents.... and treasuries too, so going with that. on a 25x expenses, 10% is 2.5 years of expenses if things go south.

Here is my April 2023 update:
ASSETS: Checking/Savings: $238,701 House: $512,700 Retirement: $1,743,655 Brokerage: $40,968 529s: $82,788
DEBTS: $0
Total NW: $2,618,812
As usual, the list above excludes our cars, which are worth around $30k combined, but I leave them out because we're unlikely to sell, and need them to get to/from work, kids schools, etc. in the land of suburbia.

Nope, not feeling competitive! From what I’ve picked up on, I agree that we are in pretty similar situations and I like watching BOTH of our net worths grow! Me 45, DH 43, one elementary school child and one middle school child LCOL, small town in Midwest. BestPlaces.net gives our town’s COL as 80 with a USA average of 100. DH salary $235,000, plus bonus and stock options = $325,000 for 2023 I worked very part time after we had kids but stopped in 2020. Yep, similar! Me 41, DH 47, and two elementary kids (one heads to middle school next year) MCOL as we're in a decent sized metro area in the midwest (BestPlaces.net gives the town a 106 rating; rest of the state is 83, which I believe). DH salary/bonus was about $125k and mine was $160k.

back up again...for now..... AA 95/0/5 - added a lot to ibonds and sold stocks and into treasuries in my 401k rollover....but the gains in stocks kept things even. Wow....still down a bit from where I was at 2 years ago. Been plowing so much into the market, ibonds, etc. these past 2 years, it really does sting a bit!!

We're up about 0.9% over the previous month, but still down from December 2021, which was our high so far. I did move some of the cash over to finish funding the kids' 529 accounts this year, and DH's and my Roth IRA accounts.

Up a teeny tiny bit (although, only about half what I contributed). Overall, not a great month. Overspending drove the debt up and investments ended flat. My value fund (nearly 25% of my portfolio) has been struggling for quite a while. BUT, it's not down 10% either, so... Mortgage - $74,651 CC debt - $5908 Total Debt $80,559Cash and Savings - $58,620 529s - $65,546 Retirement - $804,007 House - $300,000 Total Assets $1,228,173Net Worth $1,147,614

I haven't updated my net worth since September 2020 haha! I started maxing my 401k last year, yet I have less in retirement than ever before. Boohoo! Wish the kids' 529s would recover as well...
We moved - house value is probably higher, but who knows (we built, so it doesn't show up on Zillow, etc.) - spent savings on new house stuff, which we planned to do (driveway, grading and planting yard, lawnmower, etc) and bought two new cars.
Overall, I'm happy with where we are, but I wish my retirement accounts were higher with the amount that I've put in over the past three years. Oh well, only 20 years to go to early retirement (hopefully!).

Some interesting trivia about that account (because the power of compounding fascinates me). I started back to work and opened that 401K late 2005. I remember quite distinctly when it hit 100K in early 2017...it took almost 12 years! Five years later it's quadrupled.
Of course, contributions the past 5 years were a lot higher than the first 12. Like 120K vs 60K, but still...
